migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:27

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

Who pulled all his teeth out then?

JeffreysMummyisCross · 06/09/2015 15:53

Oh, don't ask Lemon - no doubt someone will be along shortly to tell us that he pulled them out himself so that he could come here and get a council house and benefits.

onlysaying · 06/09/2015 15:58

His sister says its totally the western countries fault that this mans poor wife and children drowned. Oh ok, so now it's all OUR fault here in europe, that the father paid thousands to send them off in a boat in which they tragically drowned. The mind boggles

"Speaking to the Canadian media, Tima Kurdi, a hairdresser who has lived in Vancouver for the past 20 years, hit out at the failure of western states to provide legalised safe passage for refugees, claiming it was solely to blame for the drownings.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/09/2015 15:59

Lemon one article reports that According to Canadian journalist Terry Glavin, who spoke to the aunt in Vancouver, Aylan’s father Abdullah had been kidnapped during the Islamic State siege Kobane earlier this year and had all of his teeth pulled out tvnewsroom.org/newslines/world/family-of-alan-kurdi-speaks-out-116092/

But I thought the family were supposed to have been in Turkey for the last three years? As I said, a lot of confusion/inconsistency is creeping in ...

onlysaying · 06/09/2015 16:01

"Who pulled all his teeth out then?" yes, please point me to a reputable online source where it states who pulled out all his teeth.( I'm asking this genuinely)

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 06/09/2015 16:09

Oh come on, don't do this. Don't start doubting what that family went through.

We know what Assad's military is doing to their own people. We know what ISIS do to people.

And I don't think they put up online documentation to verify it Hmm

onlysaying · 06/09/2015 16:09

frankly the more you dive into this story, the more the inconsistencies crop up. Of course some people on here dont want you to question the facts, they just want you to swallow the story complete, as it suits their bleeding hearts naivety.

sleepyelectricsheep · 06/09/2015 16:13

onlysaying what are you doubting exactly?

Do you doubt that people are fleeing war and britally oppressive regimes?

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 06/09/2015 16:14

The full story will be complex, spanning over 4 years of civil war. I'm sorry he hasn't written it all out for you, to gain your approval and satisfy your morbid curiosity, but he has just buried his wife and children.

onlysaying · 06/09/2015 16:14

"Oh come on, don't do this. Don't start doubting what that family went through" LOL...yeah true, why bother with facts...they're so inconvenient....just grab any old rumour and believe it totally without question.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 06/09/2015 16:19

The facts are there if you want to read them, onlysaying. But you don't, do you - you'd rather bitch about him on the internet to justify your complete lack of sympathy for the refugees.

Did you read the thread? His story is here on this thread - but whatever this man says, you're not going to believe him, are you?

Lemonfizzypop · 06/09/2015 16:21

What would finding holes in this particular story prove to you exactly? You seem very bitter about life and have a very strange superiority complex, you do realise you're just lucky to be in the UK? You don't deserve to be here more than anyone else?

Even if refugees were content to stay in Italy/Greece/Hungary, these countries cannot cope with the numbers they are receiving and we cannot stop people leaving Syria and other countries affected by war and chaos.

Whether you call them economic migrants or refugees, hoping that Britain can ignore migration on this scale is as ridiculous as hoping the weather will go away if you just close your eyes.

The only choice we have is how much we try to preserve our own humanity.

onlysaying · 06/09/2015 16:28

The facts are there if you want to read them

where are the facts? That's what I have asked and no-one has been able to send me a link to a trusted news resource stating who pulled all this mans teeth. "His story is on this thread" Is it? What you mean is someones interpretation of his story was written by someone on this thread.

You wouldn't believe me if I wrote a story on here, would you? So why should I believe someone else's story. As I say, point me to the facts on the internet.

I'm not saying 100% it isn't true, but I like to deal in the facts..not someone who has written a story to suit their agenda. Send me to a factual verifiable account of this incident and I will happily accept it

Nah you're right, he probably left syria cos he just fancied a change. Then he was having a great time in Turkey but got bored and fancied another change so paid a massive amount of money to sail to Europe. His wife and children perished, serves him right innit, what a fucking chancer.

Your comments are disgusting, honestly, you're selfish to the core, if you're cool with that then fine but don't try and slander a man who's just lost his entire family whilst sitting snidely behind a computer screen in a rich country and try and justify it by "wanting facts".

Pipbin · 06/09/2015 16:34

Oh Christ on a bike.
So right now we aren't letting 'them' in because some taxi driver wouldn't let a dog in his cab, because some meat has been blessed and not labeled as such, because some other countries haven't taken them in and now because the motives of one man who has lost everything are in doubt.
Do people think that every one of the poor bastards is making it up?
Or is it a case that some of them might be so let's treat them all as if they are.

JeffreysMummyisCross · 06/09/2015 16:35

What exactly would satisfy your demand for evidence? An article in a peer-reviewed journal? I suspect that these people are a tad too busy and preoccupied to be writing up their experiences and accruing documentary evidence for The Journal of Middle Eastern Studies.

Anyway, I am not engaging with that question any further. I have reported your post to Mumsnet - it's the low point of a, frankly, hideous thread. This is a parenting site. To stick the boot in, and to throw vile slurs at the according to you, not tortured parent of two drowned children is beyond the pale. Have you no shame? Actually, don't answer. The answer to that is quite clear.

merrymouse · 06/09/2015 16:36

Whether or not somebody pulled his teeth out is irrelevant. His story has received lots of media coverage and had a huge effect on public perceptions of refugees. However, even if he is a liar, it is clear that the people in the camps in Calais aren't going anywhere and bodies are still going to be being pulled out of the sea and off lorries.

Even if every last one of them is an economic migrant, the problem is not going away. We could pull out of the EU tomorrow and the next day we would still have to negotiate with France and Italy and Greece and they would be asking how we are going to help.

I think it's clear that that was always going to be wishful thinking Mollie.

JeffreysMummyisCross · 06/09/2015 16:46

I'd love to know where this migrant swarm is coming from. Onlysaying seems to have joined Mumsnet just to goad post on this thread. It's like we're being invaded by weird outsiders who want to take over our site and impose their bigoted beliefs on us, and stop us having guide dogs and --- oh, hang on . . .

JanetBlyton · 06/09/2015 16:50

This family are now Gods put up on a pedestal and like Princess Diana we are allowed only one stance in relation go them as the nation is gripped in a hysteria. If you do not believe the orthodoxy then you are a wicked heretic with no heart.

The facts are fairly simple. He lost his family and most of us are very sorry for him. He should not have put out to sea and they were not unsafe in Turkey so he bears some responsibility. The UK pays more than any natino except the US on earth to help displaced people and we should be hugely congratulated. Yes we can cope with taking 10,000 of the most needy probably from the Turkish camps into the UK but not many more than that as we do not have the space and resources.

onlysaying · 06/09/2015 16:51

As I suspected....you have zero proof of this being true. You can't even quote where YOU found the story...it just sounded like a great tale...so you ran with it. Now because someone actually had the audacity to enquire more about it and to seek clarification, you threw a tantrum.....like a child whose story is questioned.

Anyway, I am not engaging with that question any further. I have reported your post to Mumsnet LOL...this is the person who referred to me as an "utter cunt" on the thread for merely asking for some facts. I guess thats fine with mumsnet ,then is it?

I don't blame you for not engaging with me anyone. I didn't agree with you on something...and people who dare to question your stories are just utter cunts aren't they? I'd say you didn't make the schools debating society.
