migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:27

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

No, LilMiss you haven't explained and I shall draw my own conclusions but don't berate me for doing so if you cannot or will not explicitly state the reasons for your comment on blessed meat.

Furthermore, all your comments have implied that you do not want Syrian refugees in this country.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 22:35

One of my best friends is a dog. My dog is lovely. It's the others you need to watch out for. They want to impose their dog-like lifestyles on us.

Chala86 · 05/09/2015 22:35

Knockmesideways I think your mum makes a lot of sense.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 22:37

Why should I extend the same courtesy since the lies you are posting about what I have been saying and calling me racist because of of the very lie you wrote and it wasn't even true, you have a poster up above questioning who to believe..me or you over my religion. I mean why would someone even question that when I have stated it myself.

But as I said I am done with this now because posters coming on here choosing to believe the lies you Pipbin have said I said means its impossible to go on and have a discussion anymore as I end up having to repeat myself time and time again and instead of anyone actually reading and taking on board what I say continue to listen to the lies.

*out the door

MaudGonneMad · 05/09/2015 22:38

You're incapable of answering a direct question it seems. More obfuscation.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 22:39

*out the door.

Don't let it bang your arse.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 22:40

I don't recall calling you a racist. But if I did I shan't apologise for that.

I still want to know what blessed meat you were talking about.

MaudGonneMad · 05/09/2015 22:41

Me too. It's a pity LilMissSunshine won't own her shitty opinions when called on them.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 22:42

Lil - everyone can read your own words. They're not listening to Pipbin - a lot of posters, including me have drawn the same conclusion. If you don't want your posts to be called 'racist', then don't post that stuff about Muslims. It's incredibly offensive, and, what with your own revelations on this thread, I can't believe you don't understand that.

JeffreysMummyisCross · 05/09/2015 22:45

People aren't believing Pipbin's "lies". There are no "lies". Only what you have written in your own posts.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 22:46

And I don't know why I'm getting so much grief here. I wasn't the only one who assumed you were referring to halal or questioning which religion you were that prevented you from eating meat blessed under another faith.

emotionsecho · 05/09/2015 22:54

The only way to clear up any misunderstanding LilMiss would be to clarify your post, but you are unwilling to do that so it's your own fault that people are making their own judgement on what you posted.

I have not called you either a racist or a liar I have engaged perfectly reasonably with you, I have given my opinion on my interpretation of your posts, discussed the money situation and pointed out to you how the aid budget works, corrected you when I was asking for clarification from another poster.

You're not hard done by, you just don't want to engage in reasonable debate.

sleepyelectricsheep · 05/09/2015 22:57

" actually it works out £250k for each of those 4 million refugees "

It really doesn't, it's £25 each, but I think I understand what the problem is now.

You have heard the word billion and mistakenly used the UK version of a billion, which is 1,000,000,000,000. This form of a billion is rarely used these days. Using that figure you do come out at £250k per refugee, but it's totally and utterly wrong.

The figure we're actually discussing here is the US billion, which is in more common use globally, and that's 1,000,000,000.

If you would like more proof that that's right then think about this - where did the 1bn figure come from?

If you google how much aid we've given Syria, you get figures like £800million, or £920million (in the Daily Fail yesterday for example).

These figures are nearly a billion as in the US billion with 9 zeros. They are no where near the old UK billion with 12 zeros.

Or if you want more proof, just think about it. Do you really think our right wing government with xenophobic tendencies would be OK with giving £250k per person without people within its party making a massive stink about it?!

I strongly suggest you fact check all your information better.

This post was easy to disprove with maths. However your other posts are just as unreliable factually from where I'm standing, why not have a think about that - if you are so wide of the mark with this one, perhaps you are elsewhere too, what do you think?

Annwfyn · 05/09/2015 23:03

BTW, to go back to a point that someone made earlier in the thread about the Jews in 1940 being easier to absorb into the British population because they were 'better educated'.

40% of the Syrian refugees are graduates. I can pretty much guarantee that's a higher percentage than you got amongst the 1930s Jewish population.

I'm beginning to suspect 'educated' may be a euphemism for 'white'

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 23:06

This document on government aid was updated as at 4 Sept

It states £500m spending on Syria so far. The war has been going on four years.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 23:14

From that link:

12.2 million People in need of humanitarian assistance in Syria

7.6 million Of those in need in Syria are internally displaced

4 million Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries

7.6 million Children in need of which 2 million are refugees

Over 220,000 Syrians killed as a result of the conflict

Sobering figures UnderTheGreenwoodTree Sad

GoldPlatedShitGibbon · 05/09/2015 23:18

The argument of 'we can't afford it' - what if we pursued all the tax dodgers and charged all non UK people (apart from those claiming/granted asylum) to use the NHS? Would that balance the books?

I don't have any answers, but surely 'applying through the proper channels' is impossible if where you live has been bombed to shit and there's a likelihood that you'll be raped/murdered/tortured. I really can't imagine enduring that terror and desperation.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 23:18

The death toll includes this beautiful man

Sad
emotionsecho · 05/09/2015 23:25

Indeed when IS come calling you meekly form an orderly queue at the British Embassy don't you?

Figures of the UK taking 15,000 Syrian refugees are being bandied about, if that's the total it's not many, is it? and hardly likely to de-stabilise the country as some posters on this thread are shrieking about.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 23:28

So far, we've taken less than would fill a tube train. I read today that we've taken 192 Syrian refugees.

KanyeWestPresidentForLife · 05/09/2015 23:36

UnderTheGreenwoodTree those are deliberately misleading figures. It refers to the number of refugees taken under one scheme only.

Actually since 2011 5,000 Syrians have been granted asylum here. And that figure does not include those whose applications are still progressing towards a decision, so it will be significantly higher.

There appear to be a lot of people deliberately spreading misleading figures.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 23:39

I'm not deliberately spreading misleading figures, Kanye - I'm happy to be corrected if there have in fact been more. I read the 192 figure in the Guardian today.

The other figures about aid are from the UK Government website.

KanyeWestPresidentForLife · 06/09/2015 00:03

fullfact.org/factcheck/immigration/uk_216_syrian_refugees-45984

fullfact.org/factcheck/immigration/syrian_refugees_uk-45984

I'm sure you didn't intend to be deliberately misleading. I'm equally sure that the Guardian did.

It's an underhand bit of wordplay. People see the figure '216 Syrians resettled' and like you immediately assumes this means there are only 216 Syrian refugees here. When in fact 'resettled' refers only to Syrians here under one specific scheme. But the Guardian didn't explain that because it knew people would make the same assumption you did and intended them to do so.

Because the Guardian is determined to exploit the current situation for as much ammo against their political opponents as they possibly can, even if they have to mislead to do so.
