migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:27

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

What on earth was your point about blessed meat, Lil. I'm completely missing the relevance. You brought it up. (The subject, not the Halal meat).

cressetmama · 05/09/2015 21:34

And what about Russian responsibility for Syria's problems? It is a large part of the problem, invisible in any proposed solution. Not being argumentative (well a bit) but their absence from the table is noticeable.

cressetmama · 05/09/2015 21:42

LilMiss this thread is not about butchery or meat labelling in supermarkets; if that is your life's work, take it up elsewhere. Here we are discussing the fate of millions of displaced people; how and where they should be helped, and which nations should be pulling their weight. Or did I misunderstand?

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 21:43

Anyway, Lil says she has had her last say on the subject. I'm an atheist and a vegetarian and I couldn't give a shiny shit if someone blessed all my food. FYI I have noticed that some food I have eaten is kosher. I'm yet to burst into flames.

As has been mentioned 'blessed meat' is really not the issue here.

emotionsecho · 05/09/2015 21:45

cresset I don't think President Putin is available for a chat about his responsibility regarding Syria but your right any solution through the UN would need Russian approval. Irrespective the immediate problem is the refugees, we can help them whilst still trying to find a solution to the underlying problem.

I suspect Russia would be on board regarding action against IS but not against Assad.

emotionsecho · 05/09/2015 21:46

you're right - sorry.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 21:46

BigRedBull where the hell do you get off telling me what I am and where the hell did you reach that inclusion since Zionism is the belief that the Jewish people have a right to a political state whose territory they occupied in Biblical times, i.e. the Promised Land. It doesn't imply any religious beliefs.

I have never even mentioned anyting that would even allow to say that.

Quite frankly everyone can just fuck off sick of people fucking making assumptions that I have said this that or whatever when I never have and them telling me I am this that or the other with nothing to support their claim. Where do you get off behaving like that to other person. I haven't been like that to you.

Cressetmama I have said several times why I posted that topic but if you cannot be bothered to read what I put or ignore it that's on you. Sick of repeating myself

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 21:52

You've said several things that have offended me, on this thread, Lil.

I haven't squarked, or stropped about it - just questioned your posts.

We don't know you, we can only judge by what you have written. And some of it isn't nice, I have found your comments unsympathetic to the plight of other human beings, and I don't give a fuck what religion they are. I would be arguing the same if people were objecting to Jewish refugees.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 21:54
  • Objected to Jewish refugees because eg. they don't integrate (your words about Muslims, not mine - but something Jewish people have also been accused of historically) - and because an Orthodox Jew once couldn't shake hands with me because I'm a woman. Just for example.
sleepyelectricsheep · 05/09/2015 21:55

LilMissSunshine9 I'm not asking about your religious beliefs, I'm questioning your maths.

Please can you tell me, how do you arrive at the figure of £50,000 per refugee?

If there are about 4 million refugees and we've given £1bn in aid then that works out at £25 per refugee, not £50,000!

Where did you get that figure from?

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 21:56

I am not here to be judged this is a forum for a discussion on what the OP set up I don't judge people on what they put on here because if someone has something to say and wants to put across their opinions they should and I'll counter it but I won't judge them for it.

stayanotherday · 05/09/2015 21:56

I feel sorry for those poor people and their desperation. I can't imagine what some of them have gone through. The stories of them living in tents with few resources, the weather will get colder soon. Pity.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 21:59

It's not to do with judging or not - it's about what you have written.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 22:00

Now one could argue that Orthodox Jews require there women to be dressed modestly and keep their hair covered and therefore have a backwards attitude to women. Please note: I'm not saying this but if I wanted to I could say that all Jews are like this and therefore we don't want them in the country. this couldn't be further from my opinion.

Anyway. Can we get back to the point in hand?

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 22:00

NO actually it works out £250k for each of those 4 million refugees [hmmm]

My calculations based on the fact that there are roughly 20m Syrians and if all of them left Syria that's would it would come to. Might as well base it on all off them since the actual number isn't really known and since not every single Syrian is going to leave than my calculation will mean that the figure is much higher.

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 22:01

Their, not there.

emotionsecho · 05/09/2015 22:03

Okay LilMiss here is your post where the issue of blessed meat was brought up:

"I never made a grandiose statement saying all Muslims are sexist. I gave an example where I had experienced examples of Muslims not integrating into society and holding their own extreme religious views for all to see. I said one of my Muslim mates was quite modern but 5 others held the view that they should not speak or be in the presence of any females at that was university 10 years ago. I didn't generalise the whole Muslim community to be like that.

And it was an example in response to other posters saying Muslims do integrate with society and that people were making crap up saying they didn't. Well there was a real life example to counter that and suddenly I am a bigot and a racist.

You cannot even say anything negative about Muslims without being labelled racist.

My religious belief means I do not eat meat that is blessed by other religions yet when it was revealed supermarkets have been selling blessed meat without informing customers for years on end, trampling over my religious beliefs for god knows how long I didn't see anyone caring that people like myself had our beliefs tramped all over. Yet anyone on here who dared to say meat should be labelled or that it was wrong etc. were called all sorts of names for daring to say it was wrong."

So, which paragraph does the statement "You cannot even say anything about Muslims without being labelled racist" refer to? By the way it is written it refers to the paragraph about blessed meat as it appears that is an example, or evidence of, the statement above it being true, otherwise why include the paragraph on blessed meat at all? If it refers to nothing, means nothing and is not being used as evidential proof of anything then it is irrelevant, so, yet again, why did you include it?

If the statement refers to the two paragraphs above it, again why make the comment on blessed meat if it is not a further illustration?

You cannot blame posters for assuming you meant halal meat when the statement about Muslims is juxtaposed so conveniently above a diatribe about blessed meat and religious beliefs.

You made the comment to prove or illustrate something, just be honest enough to admit what it was.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 22:06

wow I made a one word mistake but lets pick up on my mistake instead of all the mistakes other posters have made.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 22:07

pipbin was correcting her own mistake, Lil.

SippyDippy · 05/09/2015 22:07

Wow lilmiss,i have read your comments, and you claim to be non-judgemental! Hmm

Pipbin · 05/09/2015 22:07

I was correcting my own post there actually Lil.

SippyDippy · 05/09/2015 22:09

Lilmiss, are syrians less worthy of saving than jews were?????

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 22:09

You cannot even say anything negative about Muslims without being labelled racist.

That is correct. Because it is racist to say negative things about Muslims, because they're Muslim. Or islamophobic, or religious intolerance. Did you not know this?

fastdaytears · 05/09/2015 22:10

Under I'm pretty sure she does not know that.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 22:11

I know but funny how people jump to support Pipbin when someone makes a wrong assumption about Pipbin but when Pipbin was falsely accusing me of saying something I never did no-one bothered to point it out. Just a quick to experiment to show the bias.
