migrants - AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

lovelyconverse123 · 04/09/2015 20:27

My understanding of the migrant crisis is that the majority of the migrants are coming from countries which do not, in any way, share or support Western beliefs/values/way of life. They are now flooding into Western Europe in the hundreds of thousands. Nobody knows who they are or their background in their home country. AIBU to wonder what will be the result of this ?

They are fleeing war/violence etc. AIBU to wonder why, when they reach Hungary, which is a 'safe' country, (although economically depressed), is it not good enough and they are determined to reach Germany, UK, Austria etc ?

AIBU to wonder why the majority of these migrants feel it is acceptable to stampede through European law immigration procedures to reach their chosen country rather than wait and be correctly processed in the 'safe country they have landed in ? Surely if a person has landed in a 'safe' country, after witnessing goodness knows what in their home country, they should respect and adhere to the policies and procedures of that country ?

AIBU to wonder how this will all work out ?

I would like to hear your calm and measured thoughts please................

You're being quite aggressive LilMiss when people are just asking questions, you're also doing a good job of derailing the thread and changing the subject from some of the other things you've said.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 05/09/2015 20:43

Did I say I don't want any refugees to come here?

WTAF are you arguing here then? If you're happy for the UK to accept more Syrian refugees, then we are in agreement. But your posts have very funny way of expressing that.

cressetmama · 05/09/2015 20:43

portico I'm glad you jumped in. This is a civil war (historians will acknowledge that these are usually the most unpleasant) with Russian and Arab money funding their pet hates. I would like to do the 'right thing' and contribute something more than platitudes, but I also have no intention of rushing in to introduce another sizeable minority into what is an overcrowded island. You do not read of abandoned hamlets in the uk, yet there seem to be an abundance for sale in France and Spain... and the Spanish are not having many migrant-refugees..............

JeffreysMummyisCross · 05/09/2015 20:44

No, I didn't mean what animal - are you being deliberately obtuse?! I wanted to know which religion was blessing this meat that you objected to? Because you are adamant you weren't referring to halal.

jorahmormont · 05/09/2015 20:46

If you're not against accepting more Syrian refugees, why did you make irrelevant points about sexist Muslims and halal blessed meat?

cressetmama · 05/09/2015 20:47

jeffreysmum meat is NOt the topic of discussion!

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 20:54

jorahmormont I have explained why I have several times go read

Because the OP is asking about how this will work out and my concern is money. Yes fine we have put aside x amount on foreign aid spend it as you like but to pledge above that at the detriment to things like cutting cancer drug treatment funding amongst other things is wrong imo.

We have given £1billion to Syrian refugee crisis alone. As I said before that is enough to give each Syrian refugee approx £50k each just from what we have given. With another £2billion given from the US and many more billions from other countries at some point enough is enough. To find another £100m outside of our foreign aid budget might I add isn't something I agree with.

Chala86 · 05/09/2015 20:58

I agree... Meat has nothing to do with the refugee crisis. It should be labelled but really isn't or shouldn't be relevant.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 21:05

Mapgpie...You're being quite aggressive LilMiss when people are just asking questions

Questions? ha they aren't just questions they are posters saying I said X and therefore you are racist when I never said X and when I tell them so they continue to say yes you said it until I repost what I said to show I never said it. How would like someone to keep saying you siad something you didn't and branding you racist for saying something you didn't. That's right not allowed to be remotely pissed off am I.

emotionsecho · 05/09/2015 21:05

For the millionth time the 100m is NOT outside or extra to our aid budget. We have not spent all our aid budget, our aid budget is assessed as a percentage of our GNI.

The government has spent 900m on the 4 million refugees fleeing Syria since the war began.

The aid so far has been spent assisting them in the camps in Turkey and Jordan, the need for humanitarian aid is constant.

JeffreysMummyisCross · 05/09/2015 21:07

cresset, no, meat in itself is not the issue, but this argument is a symptom of the hideously Islamophobic, racist sentiment on this thread. I would like that poster to own her attitudes rather than disingenuously claim that her inflammatory post on the subject was not about Muslims, when it clearly was. And, actually, I do think that challenging bigotry is relevant to this thread. Whether you agree with that or not, I'm not going to stop doing it.

portico · 05/09/2015 21:09

At some point western troops will have to be sent to Syrua and Iraq to eliminate the Isis threat. History tells us that an inordinate amount of time will be spent on appeasement before west military intervention occurs. Once Isis has been countered a west military presence will need to be maintained for a long term. Additionally, multi international investment will need to provided to ensure a transference from a backward theocracy to a democracy. In short, raise people's living standards and give them Liberty. Otherwise, this cycle of violence will continue.

portico · 05/09/2015 21:10

Apologies for my typos

JanetBlyton · 05/09/2015 21:10

Looks like we have done an awful lot so far and much more than many other nations.

However I am certainly happy to stand up and be counted in saying the Muslim countries on the whole have a dreadful record in their treatment of women and equality for women and measures taken against those who try to give up the faith or are gay. They are positively medieval compared to us.

sleepyelectricsheep · 05/09/2015 21:11

Um.

1,000,000,000 ÷ 50,000 = 20,000

How many refugees do you think there are?!

You might want to check your maths there.

This statement is about as reliable and true as all your others.

sleepyelectricsheep · 05/09/2015 21:12

^^ That was to LilMissSunshine9

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 21:13

It wasn't about Muslims. How do you think atheists who don't believe in religion would feel eating food that is blessed by other religions? I have many friends, Jewish, Sikh, atheists who all were horrified when they realised the meat sold in supermarkets was blessed and meant they were eating something that went against their beliefs. You honestly saying that is ok?

cressetmama · 05/09/2015 21:18

As an atheist, I have no view on religious superstitions (other than that they are the province of the deluded). As a human being, I believe we need to balance kindness with scepticism; the weak and feeble need help; and many of the others have their eyes on the main chance.

JeffreysMummyisCross · 05/09/2015 21:21

Of course I'm not saying it's OK, and that's not what im trying to discuss with you. You keep saying you weren't referring to halal meat and that we made huge assumptions by inferring that you had. I just want to know therefore, what religion you were referring to? It really isn't that complicated a question.

BigRedBall · 05/09/2015 21:22

My religious belief means I do not eat meat that is blessed by other religions yet when it was revealed supermarkets have been selling blessed meat without informing customers for years on end, trampling over my religious beliefs for god knows how long I didn't see anyone caring that people like myself had our beliefs tramped all over. Yet anyone on here who dared to say meat should be labelled or that it was wrong etc. were called all sorts of names for daring to say it was wrong.

That's what you wrote. Forget your friends. What are your beliefs? The fact you're unwilling to share them is very strange. Are you a Zionist? Almost 100 posts since you wrote that and still no answer.

LilMissSunshine9 · 05/09/2015 21:24

I have already said what my religious belief is I am not repeating myself anymore

cressetmama · 05/09/2015 21:26

Regarding meat, proper, humanitarian slaughterhouse practices suit me fine, Stunned before slaughter and the shortest possible journey between the field and the knife. Some hygiene would be good.

emotionsecho · 05/09/2015 21:27

You're obfuscating LilMiss, what was the example regarding blessed meat used for, what were you trying to prove?

MagpieCursedTea · 05/09/2015 21:28

LilMiss has said she is Jewish which is why another poster (I can't remember who sorry) asked why she didn't have more compassion for refugees.

BigRedBall · 05/09/2015 21:29

You're not a Jew. You're a Zionist.
