I applied for a job, spent 7 hours in combination of interviews and a trial shift, was told I would hear back by Friday which was 4 days after my last interview, contacted HR on Monday with a polite, 'please can you inform me on the progress of my application' and never even recieved a 'sorry you were unsuccessful' reply. Would it be UR to send this?

Dear hr,

despite being told I would be informed of the outcome of my job application by lastweek and also emailing yourself personally to no reply I have still heard nothing back from anyone.

I find this behaviour extremely unprofessional, if you do not wish to offer me the job it is common courtesy to at least inform the applicant, especially when they contact you directly to ask.

Well, if you send that, you'll never get a job there.

So at least you'll know, I suppose! Its incredibly ill advised and unprofessional, but you know that already.

No, I don't think you send that, you never know they may be hedging their bets, they could have offered it to someone else and if they don't accept you're next in line ... don't burn your bridges, just suck it up as part of the shitty stick that is job hunting.

God, no. Step away from the keyboard. Sending that is awful. It'll make you feel better for maybe a second or two, but HR will read it, laugh at you, delete it and think nothing more - except maybe that they'll never consider you for any future roles.

I wouldn't sent it as it sounds demanding and a bit arrogant. They might be waiting on a number of things so best to hold off a bit.

Well, I dont want the job there now anyway and wont be applying there again for any other role.
What should I do? Nothing?

Even if they are busy offering it to someone else or whatever they could have at least given me some bullshit reply instead of just ignoring me?

No I wouldn't as they maybe be waiting to hear back from the first choice and you could be second choice. Even if you're not, why burn bridges?

Id probably email them again saying that you are very keen to hear the outcome of your 7 hour interview on x date and can they let you know

Don't do it.

You have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, you could be #2, they could be trying to sort out some last minute things, the HR person's mum could have died at the weekend fgs. It is frustrating I know, but you have to suck it up.

The delay Could easily be down to illness or a death or whatever

I would tone it down a bit, just in case there has been a glitch somewhere in the system and you have just not yet received a positive reply. It is also possible that they have offered the job to another candidate who has not yet accepted. You may be second choice and still in with a chance.

How about something along the following lines.

Dear HR,

At my interview on date Youu/interviewer told me I would be informed of the outcome on date. I did not receive anything so I emailed on xx but have still not had a reply. Could you tell me when you will be in a position to let me know?

I remain very keen to join xxx and look forward to hearing from you.

Yours etc

No don't do it, I had an interview a couple of weeks ago, didn't hear anything and thought the worst and it turned out there was some unforeseen emergency with the member of staff dealing with it and I was offered the job this week. You don't know what's going on I would wait a bit longer.

Don't chase again.

They aren't ready to tell you. You've chased once, so they haven't forgotten you. They might not have made a decision, they might have offered it to first choice and want to keep you as second choice, they might be waiting on your referees, someone might be ill, there might be a company crisis that is more important than this.

Sending an arrogant email will just burn the bridge, and you never know when you might need another bridge. Archive all the emails about it and tell yourself you won't accept if they over it, if you need to, but don't say anything to them. If they do contact you and offer you the job, you can reply and say you are no longer interested in the position, but politely. Keep the moral high ground, and don't burn the bridge.

You have no idea whether there have been issues that have prevented a reply.

I do a lot of recruitment in my role and I can assure you i that if you sent that to me I would be ensuring you were never offered an interview again and if your application was via the job centre or an agency I would be making sure they were forwarded a copy along with an explanation of why you were declined

No, don't do it. I went for an interview and was told I would hear the same day, I didn't hear anything for 2.5 weeks!

The most common reason would be you're 2nd and they're waiting to hear from who've they've offered IT to. They don't want to tell you no in case they turn it down.

Happened to me last week. I didn't get it and they basically told me this was what happened.

I'd wait a bit longer and send another polite chaser.

That goes without saying surely. And as you hire your employees via the jobcentre I dont think we're in any danger of me applying for a job with you anyway.

And what would that explanation be? The applicant said our behaviour was unprofessional was unprofessional.

Not sure whats so confusing about that? I dont want to work for a company that cant be bothered to treat prospective employees with basic common courtesy.
