DP just text his mum "Hi lovely lady"...

I know his mum is indeed a lovely lady but for him to address her like it seems a bit overly friendly. He usually uses phrases like that when slightly tipsy and is after something from me!
AIBU to find it a bit weird that he text her calling her that and then said he does it all the time?

Hmm Biscuit

dementedpixie · 13/04/2015 08:18

Maybe she is a lovely lady! yes, yabu

MrsRonBurgundy · 13/04/2015 08:19

YABU. How can he be over friendly to his mum?
If he was saying 'hi sexy' then I'd be thinking inappropriate but lovely lady is not

GooodMythicalMorning · 13/04/2015 08:19

Id txt my mil that. Unless they don't get along its not weird at all!

sebsmummy1 · 13/04/2015 08:19

You think you partner is texting 'over-friendly' messages to his Mother?! That makes you sound a bit loopy OP Confused

I assume you are put out because he is using the same terminology to his Mum as he does to you?

OurGlass · 13/04/2015 08:20

YANBU, it definitely sounds like he's shagging his mother. You must confront him as soon as you can. Good luck.

Hmm
StillStayingClassySanDiego · 13/04/2015 08:20

You are over thinking this, don't you think?

Redglitter · 13/04/2015 08:20

Yes YABU

aFirmGrip · 13/04/2015 08:20

How can you be "overly friendly" with your own mother?

Smartiepants79 · 13/04/2015 08:21

Sounds like they have a good relationship. Don't find this weird at all.

RolodexOfHate · 13/04/2015 08:21

Can you be 'over friendly' towards a parent? Yes you can be inappropriate, but I don't think any kind of friendliness counts as inappropriate.

Evenhasawatermark · 13/04/2015 08:23

I am indeed a bit loopy with being bipolar and know I struggle with how relationships work-that's why I asked the question Smile

I'm not put out by it-as I say I found it odd as we've been together years and I've never heard him speak like that unless in a silly, loving, cuddly way.

Thank you for clarifying it is my issue-as I say-I'm not great with understanding how people speak to each other.

DS2 texts me as "Old Girl". I'd take "Lovely lady" any day.

howlongwillthesunlast · 13/04/2015 08:24

So now Dp is weird for calling his dm 'lovely', how dare he be so over friendly! i totally agree you are the only lovely thing in his life Hmm

I'm not sure wether you just super self absorbed, envious or weird or perhaps all the above.

Feellikescrooge · 13/04/2015 08:24

You sound bonkers! He sounds a lovely son. My DS sometimes calls me "gorgeous curly wurly girly" because it is a family joke and my late DH called me that. It is lovely. Sons and daughters love their parents, there is nothing wrong in showing it. Even if you are with a partner!?!?

BathshebaDarkstone · 13/04/2015 08:24

I love that! DH called his mum Darling quite a lot. It's a term of endearment. Biscuit

Mehitabel6 · 13/04/2015 08:24

Sounds a lovely greeting to me. (I hope this isn't a serious OP)

MerryMarigold · 13/04/2015 08:24

How sweet of him. I'd be delighted if either of my ds's text that to me when I'm old and grey!

(I am assuming there is a backstory here where you have been jealous of your MIL for some time)

Mia1415 · 13/04/2015 08:24

Yabu - nothing wrong with that

pudcat · 13/04/2015 08:25

Dear oh dear

Evenhasawatermark · 13/04/2015 08:25

Mumsnet used to be a nice place, I asked a question, got an answer, realised I must be being unreasonable and carry on getting abuse. It really has gone wrong in this site.

marriednotdead · 13/04/2015 08:26

My DH regularly calls his mum 'darling' and 'sweetheart'. It's no big deal although we don't do it in my family.

ShatnersBassoon · 13/04/2015 08:26

That's so nice! He sounds thoughtful and warm.

velocityofbeans · 13/04/2015 08:26

YABU, my ds's call me all sorts, and, hold on to your hat, they even say 'Love You' at the end of text 'conversations' too

ForeverChasingToddlers · 13/04/2015 08:27

I cringed when i read it to be fair. It's weird.
