Tribunal in France has refused permission for the names for 2 babies Nutella & Fraise (strawberry) & have renamed Fraisine (19C name) & Ella...
What goes on in the minds of some parents?

maleenteringfemalefacilities · 26/01/2015 14:25

I knew (of a) Marina Flood. Not her married name - so her parents named her that...

HighwayDragon · 26/01/2015 14:29

Arkkorox · 26/01/2015 14:31

canweseethebunnies · 26/01/2015 14:41

Strawberry is not that bad! Nutella is a bit weird, but maybe it sounds nice in French?

Theboodythatrocked · 26/01/2015 14:44

Come on strawberry is ridiculous!

RainbowFlutterby · 26/01/2015 14:45

I knew a rabbit called Strawberry. Vicious little fucker.

Chalalala · 26/01/2015 14:49

in fairness Clementine is an accepted name, and so is Apple apparently... Strawberry is not any different, in itself.

as I understand the court argued that Fraise could be prejudicial specifically because of the French expression "ramène ta fraise", kind of a colloquial/vulgar way to say "come over here".

Nutella is beyond any explanation. Doesn't sound any nicer in French than it does in English!

sliceofsoup · 26/01/2015 14:52

My DH went to school with a Luke Ware.

Newlywed2013 · 26/01/2015 14:52

My hv told me they have issues with some names and have to explain the British meaning to some foreign parents. One couple had called their daughter after an STI after seeing it on a poster and thinking it sounded nice. They did not speak English!

steppeinginto2015 · 26/01/2015 15:00

Ok, I don't get what is wrong with Luke Ware

(sitting here saying it in every way I can think of!)

CatThiefKeith · 26/01/2015 15:01

Dh has several strawberry birthmarks on his face, arms, chest and back.

Pils called him Mark, apparently it never crossed their minds that it might be an odd choice. Hmm

Clawdy · 26/01/2015 15:06

Don't get Luke Ware either?

TwinkieTwinkle · 26/01/2015 15:06

Luke Ware? I don't get it...

Hatespiders · 26/01/2015 15:06

I've posted this before, but I had a Dwayne Pipe in my class.

sliceofsoup · 26/01/2015 15:07

Clawdy · 26/01/2015 15:10

But...Look where isn't really funny....Confused

sliceofsoup · 26/01/2015 15:15

Well he was bullied mercilessly in school over it, so no its not funny. I don't think having any of these bonkers names would be remotely funny. Confused

hellsbellsmelons · 26/01/2015 15:16

I used to work with a supplier and his name was Wayne Kerr
Seriously! What do these parents think they are doing?
Isn't Gwyneth's little one called Apple? So why not Strawberry?
