no one middle class can exist on a lidl shop

lmontmont · 25/01/2015 18:56

I've really tried to get into to lidl to help with the budget but I find the quality hit and miss and its just like a glorified corner shop with a tiny range. I went away with more on my list that I couldn't buy than I could!

No white or pink grapefruit
No purple sprout broccoli
No vanilla extract
No cinnamon
No cumin
No bay leaves
No galangal
No French parsley
No cumin
No scottch bonnet
No polenta
No freeka
No non stalted pistachio
No tri colour pasta
No gluten free bread

And the list goes on, I don't know how on earth they think they can get middle class people to shop there

OP posts:

What's freeka? What's galangal?

arethereanyleftatall · 25/01/2015 18:59

Agree. But I buy as much as I can, then top up at waitrose.
I guess if they have too diverse a range, their costs would go up, thus they can't.

Doingakatereddy · 25/01/2015 18:59

I suggest you turn your back in the hole thing Darling & to try back to waitrose.

Chippednailvarnish · 25/01/2015 18:59

I've seen at least 6 of your list there, but then I'm not middle class so maybe I'm not blinded by the shine of my own socioeconomic greatness.

londonrach · 25/01/2015 18:59

You not been to my local one. Unless you being silly believe me most people there are middle class. Who has three colour pasta. Yawn. Think this done before...

averageanomoly · 25/01/2015 18:59

You wrote cumin twice. That's all I have to say

CaptainAnkles · 25/01/2015 19:00

Eat normal stuff instead then.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 25/01/2015 19:00

Tri colour pasta is nafftastic

TheRealAmandaClarke · 25/01/2015 19:01

P s broccoli, bay leaves, vanilla extract, cumin and cinnamon all in my cupboard.
Bought at lidl.

Are they middle class?

msgrinch · 25/01/2015 19:01

I bet the op missed (lighthearted) in the title. Shock

TheHobbit · 25/01/2015 19:01

I manage a shop in an extremely middle class to rich village. All those items mentioned but the purple sprouting broccoli sit on the shelves. They're our lowest seller. So maybe its just because they're slow sellers tgst Lidl doesn't stock them. Nothing to do with class Confused

SquinkiesRule · 25/01/2015 19:01

You said Cumin twice.
I'd say yes it's possible to survive on a Lidl shop, but then I'm not a snob who needs to have my broccoli with purple sprout as it's not the end of the world and other things in life are much more important.
Maybe Lidl has a plan to keep you all in Waitrose. Grin

TheRealAmandaClarke · 25/01/2015 19:02

I fibbed.
PS broccoli is in the fridge.

Lweji · 25/01/2015 19:02

I don't know how on earth they think they can get middle class people to shop there

Well, my local Lidl has fresher fruit and veg than my local larger supermarket.

And laughing at your list. I hope it was posted as a joke.
looks up galangal and freeka

Also, why would you want vanilla extract if you are middle class? Get the pods.

confusedandemployed · 25/01/2015 19:02

Disagree. Have seen most of the above there. It is crap for spices, but I get all mine from the Asian supermarket anyway and grow most of my own herbs.

GerundTheBehemoth · 25/01/2015 19:02

Could freeka be freekeh? I heard of this for the first time a few days ago when visiting a friend, it was in a recipe she'd cut out of the Guardian.

dashoflime · 25/01/2015 19:02

Lol: They have brioche, is that not good enough for you.
I suggest you learn to embrace the wide selection of German pickled things in jars. The sweet gerkin things are very nice.

Serious budgeting point: you want an Asian supermarket for the spices Smile

SoonToBeSix · 25/01/2015 19:03

What difference does it make what colour pasta you have?

capsium · 25/01/2015 19:03

Didn't you know ironic is the new organic?

NeedaDiscoNap · 25/01/2015 19:03

Who actually eats tri colour parsley?

And is cumin really, really important to you?

I hope this is meant to be lighthearted though I suspect not.

McSqueezy · 25/01/2015 19:03

Joke thread.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 25/01/2015 19:04

The middle classes arent supposed to go there, that's why the car parking spaces are too small for their oversized vehicles.

NeedaDiscoNap · 25/01/2015 19:04

*pasta. Although maybe tri colour parsley is going to be the next big thing?!

LaurieFairyCake · 25/01/2015 19:04

Have you considered getting over yersel and eating food without that list?

Maybe a pastie would sort you out?
