To think Victoria Secret Angels are just ordinary women?

Obviously they are beautiful and have amazing figures but they are still ordinary women. They get their body through hard work and eating well.

I was reading some comments on the DM with people saying -

I could never have a body like that as I don't have the time to work out.

These girls obviously starve themselves

That they are lucky to look like that.

We all have the same choices, just like them. They work, they have children, but they make better food choices and have the dedication to work out.

Aibu to think these are ordinary women and the hate comments are most likely down to jealousy?

To think Victoria Secret Angels are just ordinary women?

Not really. They are of a certain body type which no matter how much dieting or exercise I could ever obtain. Yes with exercise and diet nearly everyone could be thin and toned....but they still would not be model material.

YANBU, they work super hard to look like that. There was an article yesterday explaining the workouts and diets they have. The diets don't seem to be unhealthy at all.

To be fair, it's their job to look that good and they are not getting up and going to work 9-6 every day so they get a lot more time to go the gym, train and eat healthy than the average woman probably does, but good on them. I think some of them look amazing and especially after having 2 kids.

They are also MAHOOOSIVELY rich women, who if they please can have nutritionists, chefs, personal trainers, makeup artists, home gyms, personal assistants, nannies........... the list goes on and on and on. They also don't look like they do on the catwalk all day every day, intensive prep goes into the days before, much like body builders.

In short their catwalk physiques ARE out of the reach of the majority of women, but we should aim to be healthy, and not think screw it, if I can't be Miranda Kerr I'll just give in.

No, my comments are not down to jealousy and more down to the fact that these women, who have a body that the vast majority of women will never have regardless of how much they work out, are portrayed by a powerful brand as the perfect body and something for our daughters to aspire to.

Although I'm sure that they are absolutely lovely, despite their career choices.

I loved that article! It does sound as though they all work hard to maintain their gorgeous figures, however they do all have the advantage of being very tall and probably naturally slim too.

Victoria Secret is a lingerie brand in America. They have models called Angels as they wear wings on the runway. Miranda Kerr used to be an angel.

They were in London on Monday for their big fashion show and I think it was Ed Sheran that sang at the show.

Its just a bit of both really isn't it? If I ate very little, worked out a lot and had a bit of guidance I don't doubt that I could be very slim and toned BUT I still wouldn't grow in height. I also think that the small amount of loose skin on my tummy wouldn't go away without surgery but maybe I'm wrong.

They are genetically blessed as well as very toned and exceptionally controlled/motivated to eat what they do.

Well obviously.

But they also don't suddenly produce a spare tyre and bingo wings a couple of days later either.

They are just a better version of themselves during the VS shows.

Who cares. Why should I aspire to look like a VS model anyway? Why is that held up as the pinnacle of success for every woman?
Im fit as a fiddle and eat very well, but that's to be healthy and feel good, and look good in the body I was given, not to look like someone whose job it is to be tall and skinny.

Never said anyone should aspire to be them. Never said it was the pinnacle of success.

It was the hateful comments that made me think actually they work hard to get that figure and they do eat too, and shouldn't be assumed that they just starve themselves and are lucky to have that figure.

We do - but unless you have the height and body shape (ie long limbed, lean, not oversized norks etc) and the 'right' skin colour then you will never look like a VA.

Although as LiDL says - who cares, and why should that body be held up as the pinnacle of success? They are lingerie models used by a very powerful brand, nothing more.

Also as someone said above their job is to look the way they do.i my work shifts are 12 hours long, if I spent those 12 hours at the gym and eating specially prepped healthy food I'm sure I would look a damn sight better than I do now (prob wouldn't grow a foot taller though ).

My point is we should be helping ourselves up and not holding CATWALK MODELS up as example of what we could attain if only we were willing to "work hard enough".

I actually work with a body builder who between competitions (she is a ms universe finalist this year )you would have no clue looking at her. In the week leading up to competition she drinks up to 16 l of water a day to kick start the dehydration process so her muscles are more pronounced as there isn't a layer of water covering them. This is not healthy and gives her massive migraines, between competitions she just looks toned and healthy.

They're earning a living. Am I jealous of their figures? Damn right! But I don't begrudge them doing what they're doing, why would I?

I also follow this woman on Instagram, shes just a regular woman who promotes good clean eating, HIIT exercise and shes also very truthful and very human in that even she has days where she'll eat crap and not get off the sofa.

I just don't like hateful comments and excuse people give for why these people look like that. It still takes work and dedication and they are ordinary women.

We don't though. If your job depends on being slim and toned, then you would be foolish to skip the gym to read up on tax law. If your job depends on you knowing about tax law, then it would be a sensible thing to do.

If you are tall and beautiful enough to work as a model, putting a huge amount of effort into your physical appearance is likely to have positive effects.

If you are five foot and with average looks, then spending that level of time and money will probably harm your work and relationships.

They work hard but they are born with a certain body shape that means they get fantastic results from their hard work. I go to the gym regularly and have a good bmi but I will never ever ever look like that. I'm sure it's a burden looking that good anyway

You've posted some pics of some women who look nice, well good for them.

Not sure about the rest of it at all. Is looking at the pictures meant to make me have some kind of response?

BTW when I was 16 to about 26 I had a great body - I'm not that tall but really it was pretty darn good - and all I did for it was skip loads of meals and subsist on coca-cola, cheese, cigarettes and weekendly drugs. So, um. Some people don't have to make an effort, obv. And like Milly says, if it's your job to look fab, well, then it's your job. My job is to do computery stuff and get on with people, and so at work those are the things I focus on
