Shrieking, arm flapping and mincing.

What am I missing? I'm sure she's a lovely woman but good lawd I cannot see the appeal.

YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU

Can't describe how happy screeching along to Heathcliffe makes me.

That's me screeching, not her. I love her voice. Love it.

Dontgotosleep · 26/08/2014 22:59

That power of love song is. Can't stand it.

januaryjan · 26/08/2014 23:00

Love Bowie too.

ArgyMargy · 26/08/2014 23:03

YABVVU.

She has an amazing voice. She experiments with what the instrument of the human voice can do, and her experiments are not always that successful - I really, really struggle with 50 Words For Snow, for instance.

But even on that album there are some tracks that are instantly arresting and haunting. She adds narrative to her voice using very few words, and that is a rare talent.

I can think of lots of songs where she does not screech at all, beyond The Man with The Child In His Eyes which everyone seems to quote.

From The Red Shoes: These Moments of Pleasure
From Aerial - A Sea of Honey: Joanni (easily the best song ever written about Joan of Arc), How To Be Invisible, A Coral Room.
And then all of A Sky of Honey, best concept album since The Dreaming
From The Sensual World - This Woman's Work, The Fog, The Sensual World, Love and Anger, Never be Mine, Walk Straight Down the Middle

I could go on and on and on. Anyone who dismisses Kate Bush as a screechy prancey poser is suffering from cloth ears.

januaryjan · 26/08/2014 23:20

Loved her duet with Peter Gabriel.

Guess she is a marmite artist...you either love her voice or hate it.

squoosh · 26/08/2014 23:22

This Woman's Work makes me FEEL things.

All the FEELS.

rainbowinmyroom · 26/08/2014 23:27

Me, too. It depresses me and makes me feel sad and shit.

HoldenMcGroin · 26/08/2014 23:29

I prefer WH as performed by the Puppini Sisters

squoosh · 26/08/2014 23:31

I fucking love songs that make me feel sad and shit!

squoosh · 26/08/2014 23:31

Maybe you're more of a Ronan Keating kinda gal?

DancingDinosaur · 26/08/2014 23:32

She's amazing. But if you don't think so then who cares. I don't.

LuluJakey1 · 26/08/2014 23:38

I am with you iKB

Wailing, whiney, pretentious. Can't bear to watch or listen to her- have never been able to.

Just saying. Just my opinion- I know she is highly rated by many.

Aliceismagic1 · 26/08/2014 23:45

Personally think she's a over rated but I agree with Gileswithachainsaw-listen to radiohead and Kate Bush's music won't be so depressing

januaryjan · 26/08/2014 23:53

"The sch-mile on your face lets me know that you love me..

you shay it best...when you shay nothing at all.."

Is it wrong to secretly love Ronan if you are a major Kate Bush Fan..

Is it some kind of musical blasphemy to mention both in the same sentence..

.......Waits to be struck by lightening........

Bambambini · 27/08/2014 00:14

Love her version of Rocket Man. Woman's work and Breathe make me cry. I think she wrote Man With The Child In His Eyes when she was 14 or 15. Love her.

Onedropoflove · 27/08/2014 00:19

Have you seen the amazing reviews?

prh47bridge · 27/08/2014 00:25

I think she wrote Man With The Child In His Eyes when she was 14 or 15

She wrote it when she was 13 and recorded it when she was 16.

Many artists cite her as an influence. Personally I think she is wonderful. I wish my wife's attempt to get tickets had been successful but she didn't try until 30 minutes after they went on sale.

ScrambledSmegs · 27/08/2014 00:33

Could blather on for ages about how amazing Kate Bush is, but Mintyy has said it much more pithily.

WISH I had tickets.

LadyRabbit · 27/08/2014 07:40

I love her, I have tickets, I think she is an influential artist in the sense that songs of hers have resonated hugely in my own life.

But YANBU OP. Kate Bush is HUGELY overrated by virtue of doing a disappearing act in an era where disappearing usually = career over. So she has preserved this cachet that has made her beyond creative criticism.

But if a new artist made Aerial or 50 Words for Snow today would anybody care? Nope. The albums aren't anything spectacular (IMO) but KB has been so brilliant in the past that anything she does - and she could quite literally fart in a jar - is greeted with breathless hyperbole from critics who should know better.

That said, there is nobody like her and I am really looking forward to seeing her live.

I do rather dislike when people get mocked if they don't like something that everybody fawns over though. This whole notion of "if you don't like X then you must like this stuff that lots of other people like which must be shit because lots of people who I don't think are as cool as me like."

Having said that, I would rather chew my own arms off then listen to a Ronan Jeating song...Shock

JazzAnnNonMouse · 27/08/2014 08:25

I was born in 90 so she was before my time. I think some of her stuff has dated (the style of the music video etc), I quite like her ethereal dancing and she is hauntingly beautiful and quirky.
I like that her songs have deep meaning and aren't all about the same thing. The political ones are particularly good. I don't find her voice pleasing to listen to. It's unusual and different but to my ears not a nice sound.
I think if you were around when she was influencing stuff you're more likely to 'get' her. I don't think it's music that will stay popular with future generations.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 27/08/2014 08:30

After seeing the reports of people almost begging for tickets outside the Apollo last night, I'm almost tempted to sell mine and buy my own Kate Bush Grin

daisychain01 · 27/08/2014 08:43

The Man with the Child in his Eyes gives me goose bumps.

My English A Level teacher was the absolute double of Kate Bush!

Hey we can't all lurve Kate Bush, but I think she's top quality, intelligent and talented, so there! Smile

plus3 · 27/08/2014 08:44

I love her - I actually just don't understand why other people don't. I mean, I know people are entitled to their opinions & I respect that blah blah blah....but I am always slightly disappointed when someone states they don't 'get' Kate Bush.
