Shrieking, arm flapping and mincing.

What am I missing? I'm sure she's a lovely woman but good lawd I cannot see the appeal.

I can't listen to her - her voice makes my teeth itch. Although I'm quite happy to accept that she's a wonderfully talented songwriter, having been told this by lots of people who know about music. Including my mate from work who's off to see her tonight & has been posting increasingly hyperventilating statuses on FB about it, all day...

Still, she's not Morrissey. Morrissey causes me actual physical pain.

GratefulHead · 26/08/2014 20:21

I absolutely bloody LOVE her music. It's an experience all by itself, if I am low or tired or simply want to relax I lie down, put on the headphones and tune into the universe that is Planet Kate Bush....brilliant, beautiful, haunting, incredible and moving. The one artist who can move me to tears with her music and lyrics. Have been a fan since 1978 and am now 48 and still adore her.

A shame that about 50 zillion other people tried to get tickets to her shows at the same time as me.

Love love love her.

BOFster · 26/08/2014 20:22

How is her music self-indulgent? I'm curious.

Mintyy · 26/08/2014 20:27

Yabu. You know she's not "rubbish" don't be so silly. Her concerts would not have sold out in 15 minutes if she was rubbish.

I have a dear friend who has flown from Australia just to see her.

BOFster · 26/08/2014 20:33

I agree with you Mintyy- you could say she wasn't your cup of tea or whatever, but it's plain daft to say she's rubbish. It's like saying Shakespeare is a bit crap.

PinkSparklyElephant · 26/08/2014 20:38

YANBU. There are a couple of her songs that are ok but her voice is like nails on a blackboard to me. Even DH (who is a massive fan) doesn't like her later music. He's trying to convince me to listen to 'The Red Shoes' but told me to avoid 'Aerial'.

SirChenjin · 26/08/2014 20:39

YANBU. DH loves her music - I think it's warbling, screeching nonsense. As for 'poetry' - well, so are limericks.

But there is obviously a market for warbling, screeching nonsense 'cos she sold out pretty quickly Grin

winkywinkola · 26/08/2014 20:40

I really like Kate Bush. I just find her really interesting.

Some of her stuff - like most recording artists - isn't marvellous but she's definitely someone I like to know about and hear.

SinglePringle · 26/08/2014 21:15

Wailing and Wow-wow-wow-wow-wow-wowing. Self indulgent IMHO.

Mintyy · 26/08/2014 21:25

Self indulgent, like all art, you could say.

LuisSuarezTeeth · 26/08/2014 21:27

Each to their own.

She's spent a lifetime creating music and drama that is meaningful to her and many others.

If it means nothing to you OP, so be it.

lougle · 26/08/2014 21:39

WH and Don't Give Up both give me goosebumps.

winkywinkola · 26/08/2014 21:56

Everybody needs a bit of self indulgence sometimes.

PollyIndia · 26/08/2014 22:15

Seeing her 2 weeks tomorrow and cannot wait. Utterly brilliant and beautiful.
YABU - but there's no accounting for taste. I am guessing you are one of the millions who inexplicably buy the X factor records OP?

LineRunner · 26/08/2014 22:19

The Man With the Child in his Eyes.

Just .... wow. Smile

Nusalembongan · 26/08/2014 22:20

Dying to know how it went this evening?!

Eauneau · 26/08/2014 22:21

I am a teacher and every week a child is picked to bring in a piece of music that they like/find interesting to share with the class and one girl brought in 'Wuthering Heights'.

As it was playing i looked round the class and saw 29 of these Hmm looking back at me.

Me and the little girl were well and truly on our own in enjoying that particular piece of music!

Nokidsnoproblem · 26/08/2014 22:23

I absolutely love her. I find her music very moving and powerful, unlike any other artist.

I admire her artistic bravery and defiance. She does things for herself and isn't bothered about what the critics will say.

thedevilinside · 26/08/2014 22:24

Love her, and have done since I was 15, she is a brilliant musician, singer and songwriter. Truly innovative

TalcumPowder · 26/08/2014 22:24

Why is her music any more self-indulgent than, say, Beyoncé or Johnny Cash? I really like her music, but I can appreciate it's not to everyone's taste -- but surely it's pretty clear that, whether or not you like what she does, she's a highly original, varied and inventive artist pursuing her own path without creative or commercial compromise, also a woman refusing to live up to the stereotypes to which women are still subjected by the music industry? I think that even if I didn't like her music, I'd still think she was interesting.

iK8 · 26/08/2014 22:28

X-factor records?! Wash your dirty mouth out.

TheGirlWhoPlayedWithFire · 26/08/2014 22:32

I love the fact that I've been patronised due to not liking Kate Bush, nor wanting to look like her!

Only on MN... Each to their own but she won't be on any of my playlists. Does her music really not make anyone else's ears hurt?

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 26/08/2014 22:36

Yes I find her voice grates on my ears. Doesn't matter which song tbh they all set my teeth on edge.

CheapBread · 26/08/2014 22:41

As with all hyped up gigs, tonight's gig was full of media types with free tickets all fawning on twitter. just like they do for glasto, just like they did with python/prince, just like they will with bowie (if he ever comes back). meh.

Nusalembongan · 26/08/2014 22:55

Obviously not TheGirl Hmm
