Shrieking, arm flapping and mincing.

What am I missing? I'm sure she's a lovely woman but good lawd I cannot see the appeal.

Kate Bush is phenomenal - that is all

CatKisser · 26/08/2014 18:26

I'm with you, OP.
Her voice goes through my head like the dentist's drill.

MsRinky · 26/08/2014 18:26

I'm not going until Sept 19th. I don't think I can maintain media blackout until then, although I would love to go along without any idea what she'll be doing.

rainbowinmyroom · 26/08/2014 18:27

There is a man on BBC from The Kate Bush magazine. Jesus wept!

JenningsRoad · 26/08/2014 18:27

When her concert dates were announced, I was telling the dcs about how she wrote 'the man with the child in his eyes' when she was really young, and how I has loved it as a child.

We then watched a video on YouTube and I lost them to laughter - there was much arm waving and contorting.

It hasn't aged well.

TheWordFactory · 26/08/2014 18:28

jenny this weekend. Am looking forward to it more than any other musician I've seen in a long time. Am glad we'Re in early though, as am not convinced she will see the tour through.

fairnotfair · 26/08/2014 18:28

YANBU

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 26/08/2014 18:30

And she is an amazing dancer, for someone who didn't begin training as a child.
The type of contemporary dance you call "interpretive" was very innovative in the 70s. Her technique and style is beautiful.

And I can't think of another artist with more meaningful lyrics. Every song tells a story.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 26/08/2014 18:30

excited for you now! oh don't say that about her not making the finish

she'll be fine*

*repeat to fade

Voodoobooboo · 26/08/2014 18:31

I love her. I have worshipped her since I was a teenager. The old stuff has dated a bit in places but I think Aerial might just bbe one of the greatest records ever made. My DB and I are seeing her in 36 days time and we are both like kids waiting for Santa. Getting tickets was a military operation and we were not prepared to fail! Everyone around us are utterly mystified at the attraction and is firmly in the wafty screechy camp.

So I think YADBU but my nearest and dearest think YANBU.

OnlyLovers · 26/08/2014 18:33

We'll have to agree to disagree on that, Crack (I assume you're referring to my post).

iK8 · 26/08/2014 18:34

Yes that must be it JenningsRoad. It's definitely before my time.

I like her music, her voice and her performance skills.
That said, I've never heard or seen a rapper that I'd give any listening time to voluntarily. I think the genre is revolting, thuggish misogynistic, homophobic chanting and has nothing to reccommend it at all.
Millions disagree with me. Smile
Musical tastes are very individual.

SwedishEdith · 26/08/2014 18:38

I really want to know what music the OP likes now. And I am speechless that some are asking whether she's beautiful or not [shock:] I mean, obviously, she's about more than that but that bit is a given, surely?

TheGirlWhoPlayedWithFire · 26/08/2014 18:39

I was having this conversation on Saturday when pissed having a few drinks with friends.

They said I looked like Kate Bush which I took as an insult but they thought it was marvellous.

I have no opinion on her as a person but her music makes my ears physically hurt, in the same way my ears hurt when my newborns were crying. It's most odd.

Disclaimer - I look nothing like Kate Bush, my friends were trying to be funny.

squoosh · 26/08/2014 18:39

Me too, what kind of stuff are you into OP? Do you have a musical icon?

BOFster · 26/08/2014 18:45

Yes, come on, let us judge Grin

rallytog1 · 26/08/2014 18:46

My dad always said she was a squawking baggage when I was younger. I really want to disagree with him, but I just can't...

crispandfruity · 26/08/2014 18:46

She is a woman in the music industry who has done things on her own terms. She is respected as a musician, is innovative and challenging. I loves her.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 26/08/2014 18:48

She reminds me that I was once young so I luffs her.

AnyoneForTARDIS · 26/08/2014 18:49

I love 'cloudbusting' (and the video with Donald Sutherland) and 'running up that hill'.

only because she's not shrieking them.

never liked her voice. unique? witches cackle like that!! Grin.

never seen the appeal. I like melodic voices, soothing and smooth on the ear, a -la Karen carpenter.

Thebodyloveschocolateandwine · 26/08/2014 18:50

Looking like Kate Bush an insult?

Go away dear.

CremeEggThief · 26/08/2014 18:55

Well, you're wrong.

YABU.

BeyoncesCat · 26/08/2014 19:41

YABVVU! she's on all my playlists. I think she's genius and such a beautiful woman. She writes about real things, not like Alot of singers/songwriters of today. There's actually a song out there about someone driving a German whip?! HmmGrin

SinglePringle · 26/08/2014 20:09

YANBU. Screechy howling noise. Self indulgent blethering.

And nope, I don't think she's beautiful either.

Carol King, Aretha, Babs, Jill Scott - them ladies I'd pay good money to see.
