The 'O' annoys me too.

It doesn't help that I always think she's Gail Porter either.

I had to google the other one, Cherry Healey. I still don't know who she is but I like that her wikipedia entry has "Healey is paid to advertise toilet paper" as the last sentence in her biography.

All celebrity biographies should include those facts.

For some reason just the way it sounds, "Healey is paid to advertise toilet paper", has cheered me up no end Grin

I don't know who Alan Coren is either. Or Victoria.

My life has been affected not one jot by this.

Whereas mine has been enhanced no end by the work of these two people Sarah....I'm not sure there is a point to be made here, but if there is, consider it made! Grin

I saw a programme presented by DP once and I found what she had to say a bit bland and uninteresting.

Having read the posts on her blog about being bullied by Trolls it would be a bit twisted if she had bullied the girl who is commenting on her book. How awful.

stephen mangan I agree that one might be a very different person at 40 than 18. In fact it would be worrying if one was not. That said, I believe my point is valid. V Coren has been helped along every step of the way by virtue of her family connections. The fact that she is now a superstar of the online poker world is neither here nor there.

And even at 18 I think it is pretty weird to be banging on about your dad at a first term at University social and even worse to berate someone for being so pig-ignorant as to not 'know' who they are.

Stephen Grin I was responding to BringMeTea's story about someone not knowing who AC is.

It's all a little bit "don't you know who I am!?" and I've never been one for appreciating people who say that. Still, it was done a long time ago and not done to me, so I'll let her off whoever she is Grin

Yes I got that Sarah Grin and normally I would absolutely agree but this is Alan Coren after all

You'll have to forgive me (well, no you won't but you know what I mean!!), but only this weekend I was listening to a three hour recording of a Radio 4 extra special tribute to AC (he died about 7 years ago) so I am knee deep in happy memories, not to mention bloody angry with him for dying so young!

Sorry Bring I have just spotted your post. As I said to Sarah I have every sympathy with your stance but I do make a special case for the Corens pere et fille!! And (hoiks bosom) VC(M) has a lot more under her belt than poker playing. Having said that, I think it wsa particularly that of which her Dad was proud...he had always apparently dreamt of walking into a poker room and hearing people say 'Here's the man' but he had to make do with hearing it said about his daughter Grin.

Your point is indeed valid and I do not for one minute deny that making a career path is a lot easier for the children of famous parents who have already paved the way, and it sucks, but in the case of the Corens I feel the end has justified the means!

And finally, obviously I have no idea what your friend was studying at Oxford but there has to be a chance that it was a similar field to Victoria's in which case I would have considered it reet odd that she hadn't heard of one of the most prolific writers/humourists of the twentieth century of the ages.

But enough already: people will be thinking that I am VC such is my championing of her on this thread which is about Dawn O'Porter! Or at least they would if I could write!

stephenmangan You write very well. I had considered a familial connection such was your zeal...

Anyway. I agree we may both be labouring a point here. My friend was indeed studying English. While one might reasonably expect her to be au fait with Shakespeare, Chaucer, hell even Congreve, I find it a little exacting to think at 18 she should have known who Alan Coren was. Your love of him is truly touching though.

Back to Dawn. I still like her!

I had to turn it off when she said that the girl she was styling wwas the coolest girl in the room because....Her BOYFRIEND is in the band. It is like the 70s all over again. How tragic is that? So all the teenage girls watching think the epitome of cool is dating some oik with a guitar?

She was very irritating last night, to be fair. But strangely watchable. Like how you sometimes go onto certain people's FB pages just to gawp at what awful stuff they've done this time in a sort of mesmerised horror...

Mind you, I found the bland tea dress irritating, so maybe I am just easily irritated. I thought they were going to do something interesting with it, instead of just sticking some sequins on it. It still looked awful, even though it was worn by possibly the one person in the world it didn't look quite as awful on.

The boyfriend in the band, repeated thing, wasn't very um aspirational. No idea what the woman herself did for a job but her boyfriend was in a band!

Yes, it made me really Grrrrr. So for girls to be thought cool they have to have a boyfriend with a "cool" job? Is that really at all aspirational? I have two daughters, i found all that really depressing. And agree that beige polyester frock covered in sparkle was a waste of good rhinestones, but the girl did have the perfect shape for the dress and even though it was both beige, and highly flammable, she made it look ok.

I love her, her hair, her clothes and I love her new programme.

If the show were hosted by Claudia Winkleman, I'd hate everything.

I like her a lot. I also like that she merged her maiden and married names and found her solution.

I don't really understand what she's doing that deserves such criticism. If it's not your cup of tea turn it off.

So she merged names, has hair that is 'different' from the norm and thinks she's a bit kooky. What is wrong with that??

She's working hard and good on her for it.
