Yanbu.

Her husband is an up himself twat as it goes.

Badvoc2 · 25/06/2014 15:55

Chris o porter has come across as a bit of,a twat on twitter lately....
She is just meh.

Alisvolatpropiis · 25/06/2014 16:01

Agree Bad he's tweeted a few things and rapidly deleted them screen shot is a bitch though

ApocalypseThen · 25/06/2014 16:19

But when someone actually does that she is vilified and it's apparently 'inane' 'a joke' 'ridiculous' 'daft' 'irritating' 'stupid' 'ridiculous' and 'embarrassing' as though any of us have ANY right to comment on her choice

I find it irritating because its not a name. You don't actually just put O' in front of any random name and make it Irish. It's not at all a big deal, but to me it's the equivalent of comedy Irish dancing.

DoJo · 25/06/2014 16:26

It is a name - it's her name. She chose it. If she had chosen Princess Consuela Bananahammock it would be her name. It doesn't seem like she's trying to pretend she's Irish (why would she?) - she's just incorporated a part of her husband's name into her own on marriage. If it doesn't irritate either of them, why allow it to irritate you?

WestEast · 25/06/2014 16:27

Because we're human and are allowed to be irritated by stuff that doesn't necessarily irritate you.

chocadoobee · 25/06/2014 16:29

Wasn't she supposed to be a bully at school but wrote a book casting herself as the victim? Not read her book but that's what I heard.

DoJo · 25/06/2014 16:37

WestEast I don't think I implied otherwise did I? I'm irritated by plenty of things but if someone can argue effectively in their favour, then I am happy to hear them out and consider changing my opinion. The fewer things I am irritated by the better as far as I am concerned - I consider my posts on here to be a form of public service. If one person's blood pressure is lowered then my job is done. Wink

DoJo · 25/06/2014 16:38

(Of course if this behaviour irritates you then that cancels out all my good work. What a quandary...)

WestEast · 25/06/2014 16:41

See I can't argue in the favour of her hair irritating me as it's totally irrational! However I wouldn't allow her dodgy barnet raise my blood pressure :D

squoosh · 25/06/2014 16:42

How does she make her hair so sticky-outy? Does she have some complex scaffolding system at work?

DoJo · 25/06/2014 16:44

Don't tell anyone, but I fantasise about cutting Claudia Winkleman's fringe so she isn't always peering out from underneath it.

YourMaNoBraBackOfMyCar · 25/06/2014 16:51

I read an interview where she said how upset she was that people were tweeting disgusting things about her on twitter because of her hair (during an appearance on 8 out of 10 cats) She said she cried because the stuff written was beyond the pale and very personal. People seem to forget there is a human being reading this shite about herself. I do feel for her and I like her a lot. I think she comes across as warm and funny. I loved the documentary she made about childbirth (she was the woman's birthing partner) and the one she made about dirty dancing was so much fun. She speaks frankly about her health and her fears about developing cancer. I love the fact that despite the abuse she gets for daring to wear her hair how she pleases and has given herself an extra ( and seemingly highly controversial) vowel, she does what the fuck she wants. Well done Dawn for not becoming a Cheryl cole/Christine bleakley highly polished and vacuous stereotype. Stay true to yourself. Do, say, dress, speak, and call yourself whatever you see fit. Oh and I would ride your fella like Seabiscuit.

Lottapianos · 25/06/2014 16:51

DoJo, I promise you that if any woman asked me for advice about changing her name on marriage, I would tell her don't do it, don't even think of doing it, you're getting married not having an identity change, keep your name because its yours, its part of who you are. Just so you know what I'm consistent!

DoJo · 25/06/2014 17:14

Fair enough Lottapianos although I am going to go against my stated purpose on here by telling you that I changed my name when I got married.

However, in order to preserve your blood pressure, I will reveal that it was largely because my previous surname contained a slang word for male genitals within it and my husband's (and now my) name is almost impossible to turn into an obscene nickname - not sure where that puts me in terms of identity, but I am still glad to be shot of it!

ComposHat · 25/06/2014 17:22

Both Do'P and her husband seem insufferably pleased with themselves and seem to have this narcissistic need to live out their lives on Twitter. To be fair, she merely seems vapid and affected whereas he seems like a nasty piece of work.

As my mum would say, it saves spoiling another couple.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 25/06/2014 17:28

V Coren and D Mitchell did a very trad announcement in The Times of their engagement, didn't they?
I don't care for her much, and not just because of the name thing. didn't know about those tweets though: that's yucky.

squoosh · 25/06/2014 17:31

David Mitchell is very much the sort of guy to put a wedding announcement in the Times!

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 25/06/2014 17:32

Yes, I think he loves the 'young fogey' image.

Cocolepew · 25/06/2014 17:36

Why do I not know who Cherry Healey is? I watch loads of shit documentaries on c4.

squoosh · 25/06/2014 17:37

That's where you're going wrong. Cherry Healey makes shit documentaries for BBC3.

Cocolepew · 25/06/2014 17:41

Ahhh I just googled and seen that. Don't think I've ever seen one.
She did name her first born after me .
Whic h is nice.

ComposHat · 25/06/2014 17:46

Cherry Healey is like Dawn Porter but posher, less achingly quirky, but makes similarly pointless lifestyle docu-lites.

Hers tend to be more child focused as ... wait for it .. she has had a baby. The first person ever to manage that.

flumpatron · 25/06/2014 17:49

I quite like Dawn, but am rather curious about whether her hair is all real. After finding out Christina Hendricks wears hair pieces and wigs I have hair mistrust issues Hmm

squoosh · 25/06/2014 17:51

There's a woman called Stacey Dooley who makes 'investigative' docs for BBC3. Oh my word, she makes Cherry Healey and Dawn Porter look like hard-hitting journos.
