I know I am not BU. I am going to post it back to Sun HQ in an unstamped envelope ( will probably tear it into pieces before I do). Who will join me?

Freudian that isn't accurate other publications didn't ignore those reports, they ran them too they were just careful not to report them as 'fact' (as The Sun did)

SauceForTheGander · 12/06/2014 20:45

Was that the first lesson in how to be a journalist - ask the police what happened. Ask nothing else. Print.

Probably is in the How to be a Journalist in North Korea.

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 12/06/2014 20:46

Fifi there is not a single post on this thread that blames the sun for the tragedy. Not one.
They are entirely to blame for what they did afterwards.

Remembrance Day is about the victims of war. This isn't about remembering the victims of war, this is about picking someone to blame. They weren't to blame for an accident. They reported on what they were told by the police.

But it was donkeys years ago?

Darkesteyes · 12/06/2014 20:47

25 years ago was NOT a long time ago.
if Steven Gerrards young cousin was still alive he would barely be touching 35 now.
In the realms of history 25 years is NOT considered to be a long time.

alaswad thanks for the update on the link FAB!

Nocomet · 12/06/2014 20:49

It's useless it's only a thin leaflet. I wanted a proper thick news paper for sticking paint roller trays on!

FreudiansSlipper · 12/06/2014 20:50

what other publications a few local papers and was it the daily star

did they also run headlines screaming The Truth

no it was appalling it is the headline that people remember that is what the editor at the time wanted

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/06/2014 20:52

Kelvin Mackenzie repeatedly refused to apologise.
I know where I would love to shove a tightly rolled up copy of the sun fifi.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 12/06/2014 20:53

Apart from the rest of your bullshit opinion fifi, I take issue with the word "accident".

fifi669 · 12/06/2014 20:55

I never said it shouldn't be spoken about or remembered. Just that a story that ran 25 years ago, that the paper has apologised for many times, is still thrown in their face.

Likewise we still speak about the war and remember it, but we don't punish the people that live in Germany now.

Honsandrevels · 12/06/2014 20:55

Ours has arrived. I can't find an envelope to fit it so it may have to go into several smaller ones. What a shame!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 12/06/2014 20:55

Accident implies no blame.

fifi669 · 12/06/2014 20:59

2004 full page apology. A decade ago.

Other newspapers: (from wiki)

Others in the media pinned the blame partly on Liverpool fans, including the Daily Star, which ran the front page headline "Dead Fans Robbed By Drunk Thugs" on 18 April 1989. The Sheffield Star published similar allegations to The Sun, running the headline "Fans In Drunken Attacks On Police", and the Liverpool Daily Post published an article entitled "I Blame the Yobs".[164]

Nancy66 · 12/06/2014 21:00

Daily Express ran story too, Mirror and Mail and Evening Standard also touched on it.

but, yes, it was Sun's headline that made them stand out

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/06/2014 21:01

Apologies 23 years later mean absolutely fuck all. One edition , one apology.
You write as if they have been contrite ever since which is a lie.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/06/2014 21:01

Oh wiki. That amazing scion of truth.

Sixweekstowait · 12/06/2014 21:02

Fifi - reported what they were told by the police. I don't know where to start with this comment a) based on what we know now they will have paid the police corruptly b) any journalism worth its name does not just report what it's told (unless it fits its political agenda). Honestly don't really know why I'm wasting time responding to you

There are other reasons to hate The Sun other than Hillsbourgh fifi.

Page 3, Millie Dowler, Kate McCann's diaries being published against her will, Murdoch ect etc etc.

It's full of shite and I don't want it in my house.

Nancy66 · 12/06/2014 21:04

Millie Dowler and Kate McCann are both News of the World

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/06/2014 21:07

Gosh That's ok then. Not that they shared stories and phone hackers. As long as you can pay your mortgage eh .

Nancy66 · 12/06/2014 21:08

Just pointing out the errors...again.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 12/06/2014 21:12

Thanks for sharing your "industry knowledge"

fifi669 · 12/06/2014 21:13

I'm not trying to convince anyone to like it.

It wasn't just the police that reported that story, a local MP did too.

They have apologised. They have apologised since. They shouldn't have to apologise every day. It's done.

Nancy66 · 12/06/2014 21:14

My pleasure - although, mostly, it's documented fact.

FreudiansSlipper · 12/06/2014 21:16

Nancy did you work with Kelvin MacKenzie ?(did ask earlier) I am sure I remember you posting that you did
