To be absolutely steaming about having a free copy of the Sun delivered by Royal Mail?

I know I am not BU. I am going to post it back to Sun HQ in an unstamped envelope ( will probably tear it into pieces before I do). Who will join me?

I'm not sure that it's not a form of animal cruelty to expose innocent rescue animals to that c*p to c*p upon

Lets hope it's a big news day that day. Hopefully a Premiership footballer will be up to no good or something eh? Hmm

DadOnIce · 09/06/2014 09:36

I know why, obviously, but I'd be interested to know how Liverpool are stopping it. Council ban? Posties refusing to deliver?

yoshipoppet · 09/06/2014 09:36

Ha ha Bourdin! You could be right, but as long as they don't read it, they should be OK.

Sirzy · 09/06/2014 09:37

I live just outside liverpool, but in a postcode area that isn't at the moment in the area which isn't having it delivered.

Out local postmen have made it very clear that if they are told they have to deliver the paper they will strike. And I fully support them, I am not a football fan in any way but their behaviour was shocking.

If it does end up being delievred here then I will be another one posting it back to them without a stamp

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2014 09:37

Would it not be that The Sun don't mailshot anyone with a Liverpool post code Dad?

yoshipoppet · 09/06/2014 09:37

Sorry, bad typing day, I meant Bourdic.

Sirzy · 09/06/2014 09:38

Dadonice when the contract was created between the Sun and Royal Mail that was part of the deal that it wouldn't be delivered to any Liverpool postcode (or Warrington and a couple of other neighbouring areas)

TheWoollybacksWife · 09/06/2014 09:38

I'll join you in the posting back without a stamp. Angry

I used to work for Liverpool City Council. I remember a fair few Poll Tax bills returned to sender - after being used as toilet paper

Guitargirl · 09/06/2014 09:39

Newsagents in Liverpool don't stock the Sun do they? Or am I making that up? I should imagine that even the editors of that excuse of a 'news'paper know that they are on thin ice there...

DoJo · 09/06/2014 09:40

Not thinking this particular promotional campaign is a big deal isn't the same as 'supporting' page three.

Deciding that others aren't feminist based on your own definition of the term is divisive, unhelpful and redirects the debate towards women arguing with one another rather than accepting people's right to challenge sexism where they feel it is appropriate.

www.contrast.org/hillsborough/history/media.shtm. Read this to understand my ' bizarre over reaction'

DadOnIce · 09/06/2014 09:41

No, newsagents in Liverpool don't stock it. If it's a centralised mailshot that makes sense - they'll just not send it to anywhere with an L postcode. (That probably covers quite a wide range though. And probably doesn't cover some people who have a Hillsborough connection.)

middlings · 09/06/2014 09:44

Page Three or not this is horrendous. I do not want that rag in my house. Annoyingly I'll be at work on Thursday otherwise I would send my postman away with it!

Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2014 09:44

DoJo - my main point is about Hillsborough and that this promotion us about the World Cup. I take your point though - I shouldn't have added the feminist bit although I still believe that you can't be a feminist and support page 3. I am also surprised though that with the Hillsborough inquests ongoing and all the publicity of the 25th anniversary, that some people don't realise the passions engendered by the Sun's coverage at that time.

OP posts:
Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2014 09:45

Well that's it. To assume everyone that was affected by Hillsborough, and those who lost loved ones and were traumatised all live in Liverpool is unbelievably stupid.

longtallsally2 · 09/06/2014 09:46

I will join you in posting it back, if it gets past the "No free copy of the Sun" poster I have just stuck on my door. I loathe the Sun and everything that it represents. Years ago I volunteered in a homeless shelter in London, which catered for those who are on the absolute bottom rung. They struggled to make simple decisions each day to help themselves, but I was so proud of them when they had a discussion one day and decided to ban the Sun from the shelter because of the way that it treats people. Hillsborough was the epitome of what they stand for but it was a simple product of the editorial thinking - truth does not matter to them, people don't matter to them. It's a vile paper.

Sirzy · 09/06/2014 09:47

Exactly Sparkling. I like out of the liverpool postcode but know of at least 3 people personally who were at Hillsborough, others who have relatives who were there and I know a familly of one of those who died lives locally too.

I have upmost respect for our local posties for standing up and saying "no" to delivering this. I hope they are listened to and Royal Mail don't even attempt it, but if they do then I will support their walk out and happily wait a few more days for mail

ShakesBootyFlabWobbles · 09/06/2014 09:50

There are plenty of shops in Liverpool that won't stock the Sun, it is not an urban myth, and YAdNBU to not want it through your letterbox. Several people from my hometown died at the Hillsborough disaster and I remember the filth that rag published at the time. I hate it and have always boycotted it since (not that I'd buy it anyway as it is shit but I wouldn't even buy it for holiday vouchers or free Lego IYSWIM).
I will be equally hacked off to receive it and just hope there are some scousers working at my local sorting office prepared to take a stand like the team in the north west (total respect there). There are plenty of people outside of Liverpool that are equally offended by it due to Hillsborough even without considering page 3, seems a controversial move to do a national promotion.

BrianTheMole · 09/06/2014 09:50

I don't want that shitty rag in my house. I will post back unstamped too.

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2014 09:50

Is there a petition?

longtallsally2 · 09/06/2014 09:50

In fact I've just reprinted my poster and changed it to

"NO to a free copy of the Sun. Remembering Hillsborough"

Stuck in a clear pastic thingie, over my letterbox

Sirzy · 09/06/2014 09:52

I have just looked on facebook and strangely there is no sign of any groups on there against it. Not sure if there are any petitions -- off to google!

aprilanne · 09/06/2014 09:52

its just a newspaper .if you dont want it .put it in the recycling .a bit dramatic over nothing .

Sparklingbrook · 09/06/2014 09:53

To many people it really isn't 'just a newspaper' at all.
