pants on the washing line

aibu to hang my not so smalls outside on the washing line. We have an over looked garden by about 5 houses but other than that its a private garden.

I've just spoke to my mum who told me I must bring them in in case a neighbour sees them Hmm shes never put knickers on the line, I think she is a little bat shit.

Do you hang your pants up, if not why not? I'm not talking crotchless kecks just standard day pants.

I have a couple of pairs twirling about on the rotary airer right now.

derektheladyhamster · 06/05/2014 16:24

yes, all pants on the line, although mine are pegged on the side seam, unlike my DH's and DS's which are pegged on the waistband Grin

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 06/05/2014 16:25

Of course I hang my undies on the line! Your Mum is completely batshit, not just a little bit

steff13 · 06/05/2014 16:26

I don't hang laundry out to dry, but I think it wouldn't bother me, as long as it was my good underwear. My underwear isn't small, either.

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 06/05/2014 16:26

I normally dont but am 32 week pregnant and have run out of giant granny pants so making the most of the weather.

Fancy knicks definitely not. But only because I had my undies stolen from the line once so it freaked me out a bit.

LastingLight · 06/05/2014 16:27

All laundry treated equal here...

AlpacaLypse · 06/05/2014 16:27

I happily hang them out now, whether they're the flimsy underfrillies or the stouter, more practical ones. However, I've now got a secure garden. Having been the victim of a perverted knicker-nicker years ago, I wouldn't leave them unattended in an easily accessed garden ever again.

AdoraBell · 06/05/2014 16:27

Sunlight is really the best thing for drying undies, combined with air moving around like what that stuff in garden doesWink.

Methinks your mum may be a little prudish, slightly. I'm sure she means well though, just continue doing you are doing.

LaurieFairyCake · 06/05/2014 16:28

This is a hangover from my grandmothers time when it was 'common' (in a scuzzy, you're a slattern kind of way)

I hang the nappies out on the line but wouldn't hang undies. I have no idea why I wouldn't though so YANBU.

EverythingsDozy · 06/05/2014 16:29

I do but only if they're in the middle of my whirligig. I sometimes put them on the sock peggy thing and put them outside but never so they're on full show. But then that could be because my neighbour is a little friendly and has a camcorder on his bedroom window ledge pointing towards my garden (I'm not sure if it's on or not). He freaks me out a little...

exexpat · 06/05/2014 16:30

I hang mine out along with everything else when it's sunny enough, but might think twice about it if the garden was easily accessible from a road or footpath - I've suffered from a random pervy knicker-thief in the past too, though mine were stolen from a first-floor balcony (slightly scary…).

AdoraBell · 06/05/2014 16:30

And yes, mine get paraded on the wirly gig thingy.

Safyre · 06/05/2014 16:30

I always hang ours out. My DH protested, but as he never hangs the washing out anyway I don't see that that's really relevant. My DM hangs them out, my MiL never does - they always get hung up inside (though she has mentioned before hanging the kids pants outside while potty training).

pissedglitter · 06/05/2014 16:33

No underwear on the line
They go on the inside airer or tumble drier

honeybeeridiculous · 06/05/2014 16:34

Mine are on the line right now, for all the neighbours to see, they can see in RL how ample enormous my butt is so why should they be surprised about the size of my sloggies?! (Which are all black by the way)
. Grin

PotteringAlong · 06/05/2014 16:34

I always hang mine out but neither of my next door neighbours do. It completely irrationally annoys me that they won't! :o

DidoTheDodo · 06/05/2014 16:37

Definitely hang them out. I really don't understand the idea that pants don't deserve to blow free in the air and get lovely and fresh! (Also I do not have a tumble dryer, but wouldn't use it for this reason anyway)

cardibach · 06/05/2014 16:37

I find when I hang mine inside I immediately get visitors who then have to stand by them in the kitchen while I make tea ... I suspect they would prefer them to be on the line!

AlpacaLypse · 06/05/2014 16:40

though mine were stolen from a first-floor balcony (slightly scary…)

That's given me the willies exexpat !

AyaPapaya · 06/05/2014 16:41

I always hang mine out, although my pervy neighbour has commented on them Envy boak

CPtart · 06/05/2014 16:42

All mine goes out. But I've noticed my neighbour never hangs smalls on he line.
Often wondered about that!

Noregretsatall · 06/05/2014 16:42

Yep all washing hung out to dry on a beautiful day like this! Tbh I've never thought twice about it but then we are a) not overlooked at all and b) I have no tumble drier!

Twerking925 · 06/05/2014 16:51

When I had a garden I never put my knickers on the line. DP's and DS's boxers and my bras, yes, but not knickers.

Mind you I've always put socks and knickers in the dryer because they are such a faff to peg up.
