aibu to hang my not so smalls outside on the washing line. We have an over looked garden by about 5 houses but other than that its a private garden.

I've just spoke to my mum who told me I must bring them in in case a neighbour sees them Hmm shes never put knickers on the line, I think she is a little bat shit.

Do you hang your pants up, if not why not? I'm not talking crotchless kecks just standard day pants.

There are no words left to type Patrick Grin

sarahquilt · 06/05/2014 17:43

YANBU. Any neighbour who spends their time staring at other people's knickers clearly has time on their hands.

MirandaGoshawk · 06/05/2014 17:45

I hang mine out but always put them on the back row of the twirly dryer and put something larger (a tee shirt or similar) in front of them so that neighbour's view is blocked. Funnily enough I had this convo with the neighbour a while back and she said she does the same thing!

I don't want my neighbours to see my grey undies and padded bras!

vixsatis · 06/05/2014 17:46

Hyacinth Bucket is clearly alive and well. Why on earth would you NOT put them out?

murmuration · 06/05/2014 17:47

Always do! I would sometimes try to make sure they were at the end of the line that wasn't visible from the street.

indigo18 · 06/05/2014 17:48

Yep me too; inside rows of the whirly thing for ladies' pants. OK for boxers to be on the outside. No idea why! Oh, and only pristine pants, no stubborn stains...Blush

OnlyLovers · 06/05/2014 17:50

Dearie me. Anyone who this bothers needs to get a life, essentially.

shoppingfrenzy · 06/05/2014 17:53

Mine goes on the line. I have a rotary whirligig washing line, and must admit I do hang the pants on the inside of the line, and bigger items on the outside, so that they aren't on total display!

Mcnorton · 06/05/2014 17:54

I had a neighbour who never put undies out. Other items, but not undies. I assumed she went commando! But now I can see she might just have been reserved, whereas I bung everything on the line at the sniff of a dry day Grin Grin

ImAThrillseekerBunny · 06/05/2014 17:55

I put my undies on the dryer. When we're at home it goes out on the patio; when we go out (or at night) then it gets brought inside. This isn't actually to deter knicker thieves, it's because I CBA hanging little things up with pegs and it takes too long to unpeg them all from the line if there's a sudden cloudburst.

coffeeandcream · 06/05/2014 17:55

Maybe I'm naive or something, but I'm surprised at the amount if knicker nickers! Is it that common? What's wrong with people!

Damnautocorrect · 06/05/2014 17:55

Nope, my grand mother always told me not to and its stuck

GoldenGytha · 06/05/2014 17:57

I never hang any underwear out nowadays since some perv nicked it all about 3 years ago!

DD1 had to lend me a tenner so I could go and get an emergency supply from Primark.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 06/05/2014 18:01

Yes, they go on those multipeg sock-hanger things somewhere along the long line. I don't really care who sees, but they are fairly hidden that way.

I don't normally notice what people do with their clothes drying, but yesterday we visited a stately home (NT) and as we drove out through the gate I noticed that the little lodge house had a line of enormous pink, skintone and white granny pants on full display, which wasn't really in keeping with the setting, it was quite funny.

whatsagoodusername · 06/05/2014 18:14

I don't, but my washing line is also too short to fit all my laundry on at once. So the big things go on and little, quick drying things go on a clothes airer outside.

I probably wouldn't, anyway. I am a prude. I don't actually care about seeing other people's on their lines, but I'd be cringing at the thought of mine.

VampyreofTimeandMemory · 06/05/2014 18:35

no because I live in a flat and use a communal washing line. I'm sure no one is interested in my underwear but I'm not taking that risk!

Ewieindwie1 · 06/05/2014 18:42

Just looked at line and it's pouring with rain over my carefully pegged undies. Bum bum bum

JohnCusacksWife · 06/05/2014 18:42

It wouldn't even have occurred to me NOT to hang underwear on the line if I hadn't read this thread! Think some people are waaaayyy over estimating how interested their neighbours are in their underwear....

catgirl1976 · 06/05/2014 18:43

Mine are all on the line. From leopard print g strings to greying period pants :)

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 06/05/2014 18:49

My pants were indeed strung up for all to see for the last few weeks, at every opportunity.
I now have a working tumble dryer, so sadly my pants will not be venturing on to the line again for the foreseeable. My neighbours will have to get there voyeuristic thrills elsewhere Wink Grin
(Though from the show we had the other night from the neighbour across from us - who left their curtains open whilst they DTD for all to see Shock I doubt my pants on the line are the biggest talking point...)

murmuration · 06/05/2014 19:05

I used to live near a harbour that was a tiny tourist attraction. The houses nearest the water had no gardens, so their lines were out on the harbour. They all put their undies out too... I once read on a site that it added a 'gritty realism' to the location, which I always thought was very funny. Gritty pants :)

TuckingFablet · 06/05/2014 19:20

I don't have a washing line or garden but if I did, I would totally hang out my pants. don't see a problem with it, everyone wears them.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 06/05/2014 19:29

I'm sure my old neighbours loved seeing my knickers and garter belts Grin

BolshierAyraStark · 06/05/2014 19:32

Yep, all washing goes on the line.

ComeHeather · 06/05/2014 19:37

yes all washing goes on the line. I think a blast of sunlight and fresh air is part of getting stuff clean.

my lovely old irish lady neighbour in my first house said she could tell i was a "good woman" because I had washing out every fine day before 7am! Grin
