pants on the washing line

aibu to hang my not so smalls outside on the washing line. We have an over looked garden by about 5 houses but other than that its a private garden.

I've just spoke to my mum who told me I must bring them in in case a neighbour sees them Hmm shes never put knickers on the line, I think she is a little bat shit.

Do you hang your pants up, if not why not? I'm not talking crotchless kecks just standard day pants.

Bras in the tumble drier you say thebreastmilksonme? You know that's illegal don't you

IWillIfHeWill · 07/05/2014 07:29

The definitive statement on pants from IWill:

Anything which is not worn openly (ie any underwear) should be dried indoors, not displayed to the neighbours.

The only exception to this is when war has broken out regarding washing lines. Then, you may display your beautiful French knickers, suspenders and bra sets to really upset your fat and ugly neighbour who has nothing with which to compete. When you are no longer a young girl but a cosy mummy, you can continue to win this war by having your nappies on the line first in the morning - if its 1982. No idea what people do nowadays to undermine pain in the arse bitches neighbours.

letsgomaths · 07/05/2014 07:38

"...And good morning to you. My name is Bouquet, that's B-U-C-K-E-T; I wish to speak to somebody about my degenerate neighbour three doors away from me hanging their underwear on the washing line. I cannot have this; Her Majesty might be passing my residence. Put me through to someone important, someone in authority..."

Athrawes · 07/05/2014 07:51

Dear IWill - hanging reusable nappies out obviously! No greater one-up-woman-ship than a row of eco planet saving tots bots.

Bunbaker · 07/05/2014 07:52

Apart from those of you who have suffered at the hands of knicker nickers I am staggered at how prudish some posters are about hanging out underwear. I truly think it is utterly ridiculous.

MIL doesn't hang her knickers out so I tease her and tell her the neighbours are having fantasies about her not wearing any at all (devilish Grin).

If the weather is iffy and I want to dry larger items like sheets on the line, but know I might have to dash out when it rains, I might put the smalls in the tumble dryer because they take ages to peg out and take in.

skyninja · 07/05/2014 11:52

Yes to pants on the line, for heaven's sake, they're CLEAN CLOTHES.

And nice undies are generally so tiny that can people really work out what they are.

Not that I wear tiny knickers these days, after three kids they feel as if they are violating me in some way permament grundy

skyninja · 07/05/2014 11:59

BitOutOfPractice I'm laughing at your funny turn - my husband finds my somewhat arbitrary laundry rules bewildering, especially when it comes to strict colour separation, and carefully pegging things on the line so they don't go all out of shape.

elliejjtiny · 07/05/2014 12:13

I put mine in the tumble dryer, but that's because I run out of pegs if I put fiddly things like pants and socks on the line.

Crinkle77 · 07/05/2014 12:18

It doesn't bother me if my neighbours can see my smalls.

2rebecca · 07/05/2014 12:35

Everything on line if weather good enough.

RiverRocks · 07/05/2014 13:35

I have a sock hanger thing, and they all go on there and on the line.

DP used to complain, but he even does it now. Although I did point out to him that the neighbours maybe don't need to see my crotchless negligee out there... Blush

sourdrawers · 07/05/2014 14:26

MNine always fly proudly like the suburban Jolly Roger., though small frillies go over radiator.

LadyPenny · 07/05/2014 15:02

Pants and socks go on the low line. I wouldn't put them on the high pulley line in case the blew away and scared the neighbours. I'm overlooked by three houses, neighbours on either side are elderly and I've never seen knickers on their lines.
The young mum whose house backs on to the end of mine hasn't even got a washing line. She must dry everything inside. I think that's a bit strange.

HighwayDragon · 07/05/2014 15:29

Maybe its a generation thing, my ndn never have pants on the line I've put too much thought into this they are in their 50's.

Am Shock at knicker nickers!

ThatBloodyWoman · 07/05/2014 15:31

Depends on whether they're my grots, or my taking-off pants.

WanderingTrolley1 · 07/05/2014 15:32

Everything washed went on line (when I had one), no exceptions!!

DramaAlpaca · 07/05/2014 15:42

I always hang out bras & knickers but my washing line is not overlooked. I admit I do try to hide them behind something else in case anyone sees them Blush

My mum, who is in her 70s, wouldn't dream of hanging her underwear on the line.

Bunbaker · 07/05/2014 16:51

"Maybe its a generation thing, my ndn never have pants on the line I've put too much thought into this they are in their 50's."

Oi! I am 55, and have always hung all my washing out (unless raining of course).

donteattheplaydough · 07/05/2014 17:12

YANBU. My smalls (or not so smalls these days) all go on the washing line. I've never thought twice about it. Makes them nice and fresh. I don't really care what the neighbours think.

Although I do quickly remove them if someone drops in for a visit, it's not nice sitting having a cuppa and a chat in the garden with DHs pants flapping over your head, ruins the atmosphere a bit.

Likewise in the winter I don't try underwear on the downstairs radiators just in case someone pops in! They only go on my bedroom radiator. Is that weird?

Crabbypink · 07/05/2014 17:26

My husband likes the pants and knickies to be hidden behind large t-shirts or sheets, but yes, the family unders enjoy line drying.

Bunbaker · 07/05/2014 18:07

My garden isn't big enough for a long washing line so I use a rotary dryer. The smalls go on the inside and the larger items like sheets go on the outside. I wouldn't be at all concerned about having my washing on the line if a friend popped round for a cuppa.

flowersinthewind · 07/05/2014 21:07

I hide the sexy ones well in behind everything else and normal ones just twirl around the rotary line , i have two retired men eitheir side of me.

Delphiniumsblue · 07/05/2014 22:20

It is nothing to do with age, my mother is very elderly and has always hung them out. It has never occurred to me not to.

Helen1953 · 07/05/2014 22:34

I'm aged 60 and have always been plump. I hang my Size 24
Sloggis on the line in the communal garden of my block of flats in the good weather. As we have an enclosed block with an electrically operated gate and entryphone/keypad security I haven't had my "granny drawers" stolen. Perhaps they don't appeal to the knicker knickers?

They look warm and comfy Helen.

Those ones would be on my clothes horse in a secluded corner......Wink
