pants on the washing line

aibu to hang my not so smalls outside on the washing line. We have an over looked garden by about 5 houses but other than that its a private garden.

I've just spoke to my mum who told me I must bring them in in case a neighbour sees them shes never put knickers on the line, I think she is a little bat shit.

Do you hang your pants up, if not why not? I'm not talking crotchless kecks just standard day pants.

I don't but my garden is right next to the street/pavement with a low wall so everyone walking past has to walk next to the full length of my line. I spare the poor dears my grundies.

Yep, I peg them out. I was a little when I looked out at the weekend to see DH had pegged my knickers on the line using three pegs to pant. I may have to LTB.

I hang mine on the line but I will admit to kind of hiding them in the middle! Mine are mahoosive!

I do, doesn't bother me. Our garden doesn't have any public access to it though, just borders other gardens.

When I grew up on a street of terraces the guy living opposite got arrested, dragged out along with sacks and sacks of ladies underwear he had pinched. I remember my mum was slightly put out that hers had never been touched! He was forever known after that as john 'frilly'

My mum never hung the smalls out; they went on a pulley in the kitchen so my knickers always smelled of old chip fat and fag reek

Mine are hung out on the line, but opn one of those coathanger clippy things, so they are all together and not obvious and when we had a rotary dryer, I always put them on the inside lines

True but some look better than others; My mum's NDN used to hang out her grey holey knickers and black leggings that had gone brown and holey in the crotch area . She could have done with being a wee bit more discreet with her smalls, or getting her vinegar crotch dealt with; one or the other.

Mine all go out on the rotary line. They go in the middle but only because it makes sense to put the smallest items on the smallest length of line iyswim, not because I feel the need to hide them.

They aren't all that big but they are rather tatty now I think about it .

They don't have grotty gussets I hasten to add! Just cotton ones gone a bit faded .

My mother told all about those women who hang their smalls out for all to see. She disown me if I even considered it. Not that I would, I'm a laydeeeeeeee.

So if you don't hang them outside and you don't have a dryer where do you dry them? I can't see how it's better to have them draped all over the house.

I don't peg my pants out because IMHO life is too short to peg out a pant. They go in the drier.

But bras which must Never Be Tumbled are regularly pegged.

my undercrackers are currently out the front, on the balcony of my ground floor flat which is right on the street. i forgot to bring them in so they will be out all night now and the bin men come tomorrow early, so i doubt i will bring them in before they see them

About 2 years ago i pegged out some of the old Alan Wickers in my parents back garden and then we all went out for the day. When we returned i went to get them in and the gussets had all been cut out with scissors (there were really obvious hacked scissor marks). Most creepy.

When I can be bothered they get hung out, but if I do a load of underwear it gets tumbled as I really can't be bothered to stand pegging out that long.

I never hang out knickers, pants, socks, bras or vests. They all go in the tumbler. I'm not a prude but just dont like the thought of neighbours seeing my lacey numbers or bras plus it would take all day pegging out the socks of the 5 of us so in the drier they go.

Undies go out on the line. If nothing else for the the uv sterilisation and bleaching effect.

Everything out for an airing. Though we aren't overlooked.

Wouldn't put my leather and crotchless smalls in the drier for fear of combustion.

Yes I hang pants out in the summer. I even hang out washable SanPro...

Until this current spate of Mumsnet knicker-drying threads I had never once thought that anybody would be evaluating my wildly assorted collection of underthings in any kind of detail.

Now I know better! And still don't care. You lingerie lurkers need to take up reading, or watching telly, or something. Here's an idea - why not do some gardening while you're in the garden, instead of scrutinising other people's pants?

I hang mine on a sock drier by side seam with the socks and DDs pants if the weather is nice and they will definitely dry - otherwise tumble (no way am I going to peg out undies and tumble too...)
Do think it is a bit pointless doing my massive black pants on the sock airer though - my pants are bigger than DD2's leggings - which get two pegs on the line - have been know to put my pants in DD2s drawer - or her leggings in my pants drawer ...

And we are overlooked -my old neighbour (couple in their 70s) used to hang both his and hers out like sails...(I long to be so uninhibited...)

I'm too lazy to peg them out, I generally do 3 loads a day so always have enough towels etc to justify using the tumble dryer so stick knickers/socks/pjs in with those
