This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

I am severely running low on ones I like, I have found that the only one that has had a consistant strong enough flavour for me, was the Joose Juice Orange Cream that I was sent by Maggie on here. Now I can't order on the website as the menu has gone! :(

Definitely get more clearos, I learnt that the hard way (and I was saved by Maggie there too!). If you get one that needs a coil changed instead of the entire clearo, always have spare coils! I have loads of spare ones now as I have learned lol.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 30/03/2014 22:28

I do really like my eGo, I must say.

Schro/Derek you've seen the pics & links of my shiny rainbow ones? One of them is an Ego C Twist, but the other has the IMO lovely name of Vision Spinner. Exotic sounding name, blingy looks, long lasting - what more can a girl want from her battery Grin. No I meant E-CIG battery, smutty ladies!

Dwerf · 30/03/2014 22:38

Blimey, that's cheap, have ordered six.

ilovesooty · 30/03/2014 22:38

Dark Star was where I had a shopping accident. Grin

The liquids are lovely and they deliver quickly.

Joose Joose sometimes suspend their menu if they get so busy they can't keep up until they clear the backlog.

Jins · 31/03/2014 09:14

Advice please fellow vapers. I've just bought a mahoosive bottle of hangsen butterscotch and its too buttery and sweet for me. Luckily its also too strong so my plan is to buy something else in a lower strength and mix them.

Any suggestions for flavours that will tone down the butterscotch a bit?

QueenStromba · 31/03/2014 09:25

Schro - joose juice say on their front page that they're on holiday and will be open again on the 2nd. From last time they did this they should be taking orders again by tomorrow evening.

Allergictoironing · 31/03/2014 10:56

Jins that's very dependant on your personal taste. I would probably be tempted to think of a fruit I like that goes well with caramel or butterscotch flavours, and can also be more towards tart than sweet e.g. apple to make a sort of toffee apple effect. Banana goes very well with butterscotch as food, but may be too smooth & not "cut" the buttery-ness enough.

Equally, have you thought about whether it may go well with a tobacco flavour? It can be surprising which ones do.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 31/03/2014 11:24

No idea how I missed that message on Joose Juice' front page, will order tomorrow!

Allergic There is a spinner in this house, the one we got for my Uncle to use, it's massive though in comparison to the tanks that I use, I like it a bit stream lined. Looking to get the cool fire II when I have saved a bit of money though...

Derek Sorry for the confusion, loads of clearos are just disposable, I meant if you bought a clearo like an Evod, that was the second one I bought, those ones you can replace the coil instead of the entire clearo, which is cheaper.

Jins I would mix butterscotch with menthol, I think. Maybe chocolate?

Allergictoironing · 31/03/2014 11:49

Schro he probably has a 1300mAh one then (same as me); as a general rule the bigger the battery the longer they last. It's definitely possible to get at least the Ego-C twist in rainbow in smaller battery sizes - have a look about 2/3 of the way down This page & you can see the variety of sizes available Smile

MaggieMcGill · 31/03/2014 12:03

Yay! My fast tech order has arrived. It got shipped on the 5th March if anyone else is waiting on an order. Nothing exciting this time unfortunately, just a load of coil heads.

Schro, If you liked the orange cream I'll send you some more tomorrow, I have lots and I'm finding it quite hard to get through as I've went off it. At least you'll be able to use it straight away as I've had it since xmas.

You lot are a bad influence. I've just put in an order to Dark Star. It seems rude not to at £1.50 a go Grin Has anyone tried it yet? I ordered the lime, lemon, strawberry and raspberry.

Jins · 31/03/2014 12:04

I've got some Marlboro type juice, I'll give that a go. Failing that I like the sound of apple

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 31/03/2014 12:13

Allergic I'm quite liking my pink twist with my charms for now but will see what I go for next. :)

Maggie I would be forever grateful, that stuff was really lovely. Do you fancy some emporium vapour raspberry? It tastes like arctic roll but I am not so keen. If you fancy it I could also send that tomorrow. :). Haven't tried Dark Star yet but am waiting on 5 bottles, jt gets fab reviews on Planet of the Vapes and they seem to also send a free 10ml bottle with every order going by the comments about them.

MaggieMcGill · 31/03/2014 12:36

I'll try the raspberry if you're sure you don't want it, I'll pm you my address. I tend to like these flavours.

The lime seems to be the one they send out free going by the reviews I read, don't know why I bought that one, I might end up with two bottles Confused

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 31/03/2014 12:47

I think raspberry just isn't sweet enough for me. Happy to give it a new home!

It seems most of the people who bought lime, got fruits of the forest free, I think. I don't think I can complain when it comes, it was so cheap. I am hoping it's nice.

Jins · 31/03/2014 13:30

Yay - I've found a bottle of menthol that someone gave me. I can't abide menthol. However mixed with the butterscotch it's vaguely reminiscent of nuttalls mintoes (or for those that don't remember them - buttermints)

Still way too strong though. I think I'm going to need some flavourless zero strength stuff. Has anyone else noticed a difference in the strangths of different brands

Jins · 31/03/2014 13:31

When I say strength I mean the nicotine content not the flavour by the way

TheFutureMrsB · 31/03/2014 14:25

Had my order from Liberty Flights today and have mixed up a VG based spearmint/blueberry concoction and it's delish! No harsh throat hit so here's hoping I've found what I need to keep me off the fags.

Was about to put an order in on Dark Star but they only accept Paypal as a payment and I do not have a Paypal account! Will have to wait until I pop to my mum's in the week and she can order it for me :) Hopefully the juices will still be on offer/available.

Bought chocolate today and mixed with menthol. Chocolate alone is disappointing va pe and I prefer menthol only.

Bought bubblegum, flux, grape, yet to try. Bubblegum tastes of mint too I'm told.

TheFutureMrsB · 31/03/2014 15:33

Sole there is a minty bubblegum and a fruity bubblegum, my DP has been trying to get hold of the fruity bubblegum for ages but they all seem to be minty now, he really liked that one too.

SoleSource · 31/03/2014 15:42

oh MrsB fruity sounds lovely yum.

Can we have links to the exact pages you buy yourliquids from please. I have searched Joose Joose and Dark Star :(

Shonajoy · 31/03/2014 15:56

There's a fruity bubblegum on eBay! I'm day ten and totally over the moon. Have £100 in my fag account which I used today to top up my collection of flavours, and I still have £70 left. I can't get over how EASY this Is, when I'd tried before I'd had to avoid drinking as I'd want a cig, we left a family dinner in town last night and passed a group of smokers standing outside and I felt great. Not one craving. So chuffed!
