This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

I started vaping Wed 26th March.

magimedi · 30/03/2014 17:04

My Dad used to use Eucryl - didn't know it was still made!

Not spammy at all, Plenty - could be on every page of the thread as far as I'm concerned!

SoleSource · 30/03/2014 17:38

Eucryl bought, (co-op) the peppermint and toothbrush on charge.

EatShitDerek we have started to vale at the same time. :)

Looking forward to trying new flavours if the shop is open tomorrow.

magimedi · 30/03/2014 17:45

Sole - many shops will let you have a try of a few flavours before you buy.

Hi all. After lurking and reading for a month or so I took the plunge and became a vaper :o
I got an EGO-T starter kit which has two batteries and charger two clearomisers as well as 5 spare wicks.
I am now smoke free two weeks. Yay me!!!
Couple of questions for the experienced ones here:-

  1. Is this adequate kit? Do I need more shiny stuff or is that enough?
  2. How long do batteries/clearomisers last before they need replacing?
  3. How often do I need to change the wick?

Thanks for any advice.

Allergictoironing · 30/03/2014 18:18

Hiya Knuts and welcome Smile.

  1. Depends on your definition of "need" Wink. I suppose I didn't theoretically NEED the spare rainbow battery as well as the original rainbow and 2 others ... But more seriously, as a minimum what you have would do but longer term I would look at a second charger in case the first one dies, a cheap 3rd battery so when one dies you can still vape when the other is on charge, and another clearo or 2 maybe for swapping flavours without having to clean it out every time.
  1. Clearos anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months, batteries not sure as mine are all fine so far but I gather anything from a few months to a year.
  1. Wicks I will leave to someone better equipped than me to answer, but I don't think you need to change them at all unless either they start tasting burnt (and sometimes a good clean will help this) or when the coil itself dies.

I am so glad to see so many more people entering the Nest of Vapers and ditching the cigs. Many congratulations, all Smile

I would bloody love a Caper shop Grin and would probably vape that flavour!

But what flavour Dekang are you vaping Sole? They make so many nice flavours (mmmm)

FarelyKnuts · 30/03/2014 18:51

Thanks Addicted. That's really helpful. This is the first time ever trying to quit that I feel I can do this.

FarelyKnuts · 30/03/2014 18:55

Allergic sorry. Obviously addiction is on my mind :o

SoleSource · 30/03/2014 18:55

A medium, 16mg/ml menthol flavour.

Which flavours have you all tried?

I'd like to try Coca-Cola, chocolate, blue raspberry slush puppies....

Black grape.....

Dwerf · 30/03/2014 19:12

I bought new clearos on friday, they were cheap and quite small, only 1.5ml, I seem to be refilling them far too often, I don't know whether it's because they are new, or the liquid burns really well, or because my last tanks were 2ml or simply I'm vaping too much. It's annoying though.

SoleSource · 30/03/2014 19:16

Is it possible to vale too much?

Is vaping harmful?

I need to look at these clearos.

Sick of autocorrect

magimedi · 30/03/2014 20:05

I change my wicks about every 10 days - I can't be arsed to burn & clean 'em & lovely Kate at my vape shop gives me a generous discount on 'em as I have sent so many people her way!

I think you could vale vape too much if you started to feel sick and/or dizzy from the nicotine. I tend to puff & put down and am still getting through 20ml of liquid a week & have done right from the start.

Just see how much liquid you are using per week, Sole - I think I am right in saying that the majority of us get through 20ml per week?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 30/03/2014 20:08

Maggie Last night was surprisingly good, I'm never out though, even though I live here. It's murder to get home.

Magi I use about 10ml a week and feel like I am vaping constantly! Confused

magimedi · 30/03/2014 20:14

Schro - you aren't - don't worry, it's so much better than smoking.

Just relax & enjoy!

OP posts:
Dwerf · 30/03/2014 20:51

I think it's the clearos, you do get an awful lot of vapour from them. And I do vape constantly, but then again, I could smoke constantly if I had tobacco in.

SoleSource · 30/03/2014 21:06

Just ordered Choco mint from EBay. There are so many flavours to try, I feel dizzy with excitement Grin

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 30/03/2014 21:16

I'm trying to make DP buy me an Innoken Cool Fire 2... It looks awesome.

Derek Mines is an eGo C Twist. Still an eGo. :)

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 30/03/2014 22:15

Just ordered a load of bottles from Dark Star, they get good reviews on Planet of the vapes and are £1.50 per 10ml! Just got 5 bottles for £8.50 inc delivery! Including Kiwi Crush, which sounds awesome.

I wanted to order from Joose Juice but their menu hasn't been working for days. :(
