Nest of Vapers- we continue to not BU to carry on vaping!!

This is now the fourth thread in six months - which must say something about vaping. Thread 3 & links back are here:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1985116-AIBU-to-carry-on-evangalising-about-electronic-cigarettes-Part-3?pg=1

For all new vapers I will again copy Allergic's great summary of what all the terms mean - but don't hesitate to ask anything about vaping

We all started from scratch & know what how very confusing it can be.

No question is to daft to ask - it really can be a minefield but it is a route to no more cigarettes! (nearly 18 months in for me!)

Allergic's great summary:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

And like Queen I'm also very jealous! Envy

QueenStromba · 27/03/2014 22:34

I got all my stuff from LF for the first 6 months or so of my vaping career, great customer service, good quality kit and next day dispatch.

Cantabile · 27/03/2014 22:43

ESD, I ordered a few 10ml bottles of apple flavour by mistake so have spares. They're 18s, but if you're interested PM me your address and I'll send one off tomorrow. They really are spare as I have a big 100ml bottle, which I'm nowhere near finishing yet!

Shonajoy · 27/03/2014 22:43

Well that's me five days off the fags, by now I'm making excuses, but I'm loving vaping, and saving so much money! I'm never going back.

This is a real snog question but I saw one on amazon I loved cos it looked so cool- can anyone tell me if its any good?

Nest of Vapers- we continue to not BU to carry on vaping!!
Shonajoy · 27/03/2014 22:44

It's made by innokin. I like it cos it doesn't look like a cigarette and its pretty and looks tough. What do you think? X

Shonajoy · 27/03/2014 22:46

Oh and I have a couple of 10ml 18strength tobacco flavours going begging if anyone want them- or swap, or you can just have them. I'm really into fruity flavours I'd rather not try a tobacco one x

MistressDeeCee · 27/03/2014 22:51

Kippersbigfeet its surely better than him smoking, isn't it? I don't think it means your DC will end up a smoker or vaper, necessarily. My DCs didnt. & now that I vape, they don't copy that either. I can see your point but he's an adult - there are probably lots of things we do that we wouldn't want children to copy but thats because we aren't children. I suppose you could ask him to hide whilst he is vaping. It sounds as if he enjoys it so that would seem to be the best compromise.

Shonajoy · 28/03/2014 07:40

Woke up this morning and really feel that's me turned a corner. I looked at the price of that vaper and it was very expensive so decided not to. I have bought a spare from Innokin though, I read further up the thread and someone had recommended them.

I treated myself to a pair of sandals - first weeks fag money. Why didnt I do this sooner? I had an e-cig three years ago but it was awful, nothing like these. I'm so glad! X

Allergictoironing · 28/03/2014 08:04

That's a lovely feeling Shona isn't it? Grin

A fair number of vapers do use the fact they can buy themselves little treats as a reward for saving all that money as an incentive. And just think, won't be many weeks of being cigarette free that you can justify getting that Innokin MVP. See this link for even more shiny goodness along the same lines from Innokin - nobody could accuse THAT little lot of looking like a cigarette!

magimedi · 28/03/2014 08:10

Well done, Shona.

Buying more kit is known as "shinyitis" - am afraid most of us here are affected by it - some more than others!

Shonajoy · 28/03/2014 09:31

Omg why did you DO that to me?! Drooling...

Allergictoironing · 28/03/2014 09:35

Is this the time to point Shona at the FastTech website, along with a reminder that the prices are in dollars so are even cheaper when converted to sterling? Evil Grin

QueenStromba · 28/03/2014 09:53

I don't think anyone on the thread has an innokin VTR but loads of us have MVP 2s. You really can't go wrong with an innokin, you should definitely get the VTR if you want one - only £42 on Fast Tech although you'll need to buy a couple of batteries and a charger to go with it and it will probably take about a month to turn up.

Shonajoy · 28/03/2014 10:15

Ok am seriously considering one of the innokon MVP tank style ones. I had ordered a back up of my simple on from ecig wizard but my daughter wants it, which is fab, so we will all be non smokers in the house now.

What are the benefits to these tank style ones? Do they hold more? Work better? I love the look of the, but don't want to buy based on that alone x

Hope you feel better soon.

Shonajoy · 28/03/2014 15:33

I've just ordered an MVP 2 in silver. Damn you all!!! Don't show me shiny things!!! Lol x

QueenStromba · 28/03/2014 16:15

This is not the thread for you if you don't want to be shown shiny things!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 28/03/2014 16:41

Derek Posted this morning first class, hope it gets to you tomorrow and I hope the anti bs work. :(

I bought a new pink Evod today, pineapple and a charm, the evod broke before I left the centre as the pineapple was so strong so the guy sold me a mini protank for £4!

Derek - once you find a flavour you really like you'll find it easy to ditch the stinky fags completely.

Really, we are all so nice that we shouldn't be in AIBU - but if we were in chat all our 'pearls of wisdom' Grin re vaping would vanish.

Hope you are feeling better, Derek - don't forget to drink lots - of water!

Pineapple is a known tank cracker, if the shop sold it to you with a polycarbonate tank then bad service from them!
