allergic I thought about that but the other reason i would probably buy a rechargable ten motives is for the disposable carts (I'd only use one maximum a night if that so it wouldn't be overly expensive) because i'd be worried about the bottle getting squashed and losing all the liquid.

I can hide a spare ten motives cartomizer and battery in my bra for if that happens :D

I take my normal ones on photoshoots because we tend to be provided with better storage facilities or carry stuff with us if it's outdoors :) One of the photographers i work with vapes too haha he was into it before me!

The other thing i love about vapers is they seem far less judgemental of smokers than a lot of other ex smokers i know! I dont mean to generalise, its just my experience, But the ex smokers i meet who went cold turkey seem very uptight and judgemental about smokers.

The vapers i meet seem more understanding of smokers.

I ventured into the Socialites shop (no proper vape shop anywhere near me) and was delighted to be able to try the juices. Currently vaping blueberry although I don't usually like fruit / sweet flavours.

My GSH2 leaked into the inner tube last night while upright in an empty glass so safe to say it is cracked!

Hello. I don't really belong on this thread as I have never smoked and by the same token will never vape. I am a rabid anti-smoker with a strong sense of smell. I am fairly sure that my lifelong poor lung power is at least partly down to relatives smoking like chimneys over my cot. I also had an ex who used to lie about it, which causes an unreasonable knee-jerk irritation whenever I see an innocent smoker light up.

I just want you to know I am 100%+ in favour of the whole vaping thing. It smells, to me, of either nothing at all or a faint, pleasant whiff of fruit or vanilla or suchlike, slightly less than my own flavoured coffee (ugh, you say!) might give off. Smoking colleagues no longer have to keep popping out to feed their habit while the rest of us answer their phones. My sister, a lifelong over-indulger in the filthy weed, can come round to see us and stay chatting instead of periodically going outside to freeze, her clothes and hair don't reek, my clothes and hair don't reek when I visit her, and best of all, she is quite likely to live longer as a result. And it saves money. So good on yer, vapers, and I hope the Govt doesn't have a(nother) rush of blood to the head and spoil the whole thing in their eagerness to (allegedly) make it safe.

Hope that doesn't sound patronising. It's meant from the heart.

Thank you Annie Flowers. Comments like that from lifelong non-smokers are actually very encouraging rather than patronising Smile

Thanks mag, I was dizzy before. My SM came out with it once when the dogs were being wankers lol.

I liked 'pile of freaks'/'pile of twats' too, she called them that when the three bitches were all in season and kept shagging thin air in sync with each other across the room lol.

Good job Flock. Don't forget to take a nice selection of different flavours with you for her to try - I've noticed that people often seem to like flavours they never thought they would, and vice versa.

Regarding cost, I've worked out that including all the shiny toys I've bought/ordered, plus all the fluid I've bought, plus all the DIY fluid makings I've got on order, I've spent the same as about 2 week's worth of fags (at a bit under 10 packs a week, around £150). That's over 4 weeks of vaping instead of smoking plus I'll have at least another 4-6 weeks of fluid, and plenty of some of the fluid ingredients left over for more batches.

So adding that up I've saved nearly £150 already in a month and will save at least £300 before I have to spend any more (unless I fancy a few different flavours to the ones I already have/have on order). OK so my initial battery/clearos/charger were at "mates rates" from my friend with an e-cig company, and she did give me a couple of bottles of liquid & a spare clearo or two as part of my Xmas present, but I'm still WAY ahead of the game.

For another friend who I'm working on to swap to vaping, I calculated that if she went for the absolute basics (2 batteries, 2 clearos, charger, juice) at a reasonable standard i.e. not the very cheapest crap but nothing special, on her 20 a day habit she would break even after 2 weeks or less! After that, assuming 2 new batteries a year, a few clearos, and buying ready made juice, she'd still be saving an absolute minimum of £500 a year probably a fair bit more. Made the costs the max I could, made the savings the absolute minimum I could, and only worked it out in my head as she put me on the spot while on the phone so probably underestimated the savings.

You're good with that Allergic. I bought a load of syringes and stuff but I never ended up using them. To make up 30ml of ~1.3% 50/50 I take a 30ml bottle and fill it to about half way with 2.7% PG (which itself is made of a mix of 5.4% nicotine and PG - I just put one 100ml bottle of the nicotine and the same again of PG into a 250ml bottle), then put in about a third of a 10ml bottle of the flavour and top up with VG.

I've now got a load of 7% nicotine and will mix it to the right concentration with PG by weighing it and then do the mixing with VG and flavourings by eye.

Allergictoironing · 03/02/2014 08:08

Dunno how GOOD I'll be with that Queen, I'm still waiting for the various ingredients to arrive as I only ordered them yesterday! Today's project is to clear out a drawer or cupboard to keep it all in rather than the current system of various bottles of fluid scattered around the living room, mostly on the coffee table.

Warning of technical stuff, for those not interested! As you may have gathered I'm a bit averse to hassle (lazy cow) so did a bit of mental effort to get a balance between cost & effort. Worked out that I want at least initially about a 70/30 PG/VG split. With 5.4% base the rough amounts are 1 nicotine base to 2 dilutent, so I've bought VG base and PG dilutent. I know it would be slightly cheaper to buy PG base & the VG at somewhere like Boots, but then I'd have to get extra PG dilutent as well - another potential mistake for me to make in the mixing. I'll see how this lot goes and maybe move to PG base plus both dilutents once I'm confident.

I haven't bothered with syringes, just pipettes to make sure I get the amounts right. Going by eye will make it harder if I decide to tweak the recipe at a later date Smile

Annie thank you Flowers It means a lot to have never-smokers on our side.

Today I found this paper on nicotine, smoking, NRT and e cigs and I think it's well worth a read. It's the most sensible, comprehensive thing I have read so far and I think it should be shared widely by those who do that newfangled social media stuff Wink

Ledare - are you sure it's not just condensation in your GS-H2? I have found it does build up a bit in the inner tube but not enough to go gurgly before it needs refilling anyway - then I just shove a cotton bud down it (cheapo crap one from the £ shop - Johnson's are too wide). I also give the atomiser a blow through with a drinking straw.

Hey all.
After serious conversion by DD, SIL and BIL I caved and bought a starter vape kit from VIP in town.
Though I had cigs (of course I did, I never ran out of my 30 a day habit) I decided to have a go with the idea of replacing the odd cig thus lowering my consumpton.
That was on Sunday morning. My cigs are still intact.
Can't believe it.

magimedi · 04/02/2014 11:34

Massive congratulations, KatieScarlett.

Have you worked out how much you have saved already?

BTW - How much are 20 cigs now? Say, B & H?
