To have caused a fuss in library ??!

I had to pop to the local library this morning to print some important docs out, as we don't have a printer. They have 6 computers, and then about 12 in their computer training room, although there was a class going on so those ones could not be used.

The 6 were all taken up; some guy looked like he was searching a job site (good on him), some other guy was reading large documents, not sure about 2 others, but then there was a girl (about 24ish) and a lad (probably a little older) sat just scrolling through Facebook, and blatantly daydreaming! There was a queue for the computers and I know some locals who do visit every day to carry out job searches etc.

Anyway, I couldn't help myself, and asked the guy on the desk why it was right for people to have to wait for a computer, for productive purposes, while people are sat wasting their lives on Social Networking, when maybe they should be taking a leaf out of the other guys' book and searching the job sites?

It really gets my back up as I'm a huge believer that you need to work hard in life. I had a chat with the lady on the other desk and she was in total agreement with me that the use of SN sites should be banned from these computers - I have written my complaint to the Council Angry

umm maybe it was their day off... maybe they dont have internet at home ...

maybe your not the boss of who gets to do what and when...

maybe you need a chill pipll!

Thesimplethings · 16/01/2014 13:32

Yabu.

It's a public library, presumably they had waited for their turn and its up to them how they pass their time. Perhaps that's the only Internet access they have.

ruby1234 · 16/01/2014 13:33

Buy your own printer?

None of your business what anyone else is doing.

Hobbes8 · 16/01/2014 13:33

I've got jobs via social networking sites.

Lottiedoubtie · 16/01/2014 13:35

Yabu

People can spend their leisure time however they like.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/01/2014 13:35

YAB a bit U.

However, all the libraries I know have a booking system/can't occupy computer for more than an hour.

Fleta · 16/01/2014 13:36

YABU - the clue is in the name "public library"

Not "keep a computer free for TRCB to print out documents" library.

But a printer.

PedlarsSpanner · 16/01/2014 13:36

Oh dear

Is it free use? My library used to charge a few quid for 30 mins or similar.

2014newme · 16/01/2014 13:36

Access to pcs in libraries is on a first come first served basis thee is no priority listing of whose need to use the PC is more important.

Yabu, just buy a printer!

Avalon · 16/01/2014 13:36
Hmm
Fakebook · 16/01/2014 13:37

Printers are really cheap these days. I got a Dell one for £30 3 years ago. Buy one.

You were completely unreasonable. There should be no priority given according to what people want to use the computers for. Does your library have time slots given to people? That's a good idea, but your view of things is unreasonable and you were out of order to create a fuss and start having nasty conversations with other library users.

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 13:39

Ha ha well, looked like a pair of lazy fuckers to me, if it was their 'day off' then I pity them that they can clearly not use it more productively.

And the printer is on my list, only funds are prioritised at the mo!

Lol at moaning about people 'wasting their lives on Social Networking' on...social networkingGrin

I can see it might merit an inner tut to yourself in exasperation but that's all you can do really. It's a public library.

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2014 13:40

Yabu. They waited their turn or paid for their hour or whatever and it's theirs so do what they so wish. Of thy don't have internet at home Facebook at the library may be their only communication with friends.

How dare you decide who's stuff is important and who's isn't.

And you shouldn't even be looking at their screen.

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 13:40

curlew why?? There are people who have genuine things to do and are using the computers for important business - by the way, the guy wasn't looking for a job, he was watching a video of a dog on his FB wall Hmm

Well you sound delightful.

Person on day off in visiting library shocker.

How bloody dare they

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2014 13:42

Shock lazy fuckers ???

How on earth do you decide that???

Could be an under cover cop for all you know.

TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 16/01/2014 13:42

giles the comps are laid out in full view of the reception desk, ie as you walk past the row of 6 their screens are facing you

You sound a bit of an arse.

Buy your own printer if you truly can't be doing with sharing with other people in a public library.

Lottiedoubtie · 16/01/2014 13:43

People on day off spend time on social networking.

Yes, how dare they?

OP you must be joking.

What you really wanted OP was to bypass the queue because you're needs were oh so important compared to anyone elses.
