To have caused a fuss in library ??!

I had to pop to the local library this morning to print some important docs out, as we don't have a printer. They have 6 computers, and then about 12 in their computer training room, although there was a class going on so those ones could not be used.

The 6 were all taken up; some guy looked like he was searching a job site (good on him), some other guy was reading large documents, not sure about 2 others, but then there was a girl (about 24ish) and a lad (probably a little older) sat just scrolling through Facebook, and blatantly daydreaming! There was a queue for the computers and I know some locals who do visit every day to carry out job searches etc.

Anyway, I couldn't help myself, and asked the guy on the desk why it was right for people to have to wait for a computer, for productive purposes, while people are sat wasting their lives on Social Networking, when maybe they should be taking a leaf out of the other guys' book and searching the job sites?

It really gets my back up as I'm a huge believer that you need to work hard in life. I had a chat with the lady on the other desk and she was in total agreement with me that the use of SN sites should be banned from these computers - I have written my complaint to the Council Angry

I hope we're all feeling chastened now and are going to get off the social media site that is Mumsnet and go and do something productive.

Juno77 · 16/01/2014 13:45

Yeah, sorry, but you do sound like an arse.

It's none of your business what they choose to do on the PUBLIC computers.

You aren't more important than them.

Feminine · 16/01/2014 13:45

I'm concerned for you op

I'm thinking of a way to help you...

I do hope no-one on this thread is mumsnetting from....a library

I'm not.....but BOY do I feel like taking a trip right now.....

Binkyridesagain · 16/01/2014 13:47

What were the other 12 computers being used for?

I am sure the council will find your letter very entertaining.

ChairOfTheBored · 16/01/2014 13:47

Ha! This is surely a spoof thread? How can anyone think they have the right to dictate how other members of the public use the public use PCs in a library. What next?removal of books which you feel are frivolous on not 'improving'? After all why should people be able to waste their time on such flimflamery?

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2014 13:48

:o fleta

Mabelface · 16/01/2014 13:49

You don't come across as a very nice person. You come across as supercilious and appear to think that your time is more important than others. On a day off, there is NOTHING wrong with being unproductive and chilling. Just because it's not what you'd choose to do doesn't make it wrong, nor does it make them lazy fuckers. Oh, and I agree, go and buy yourself a printer for £30.

Ev1lEdna · 16/01/2014 13:49

Wow!

Those people are just as entitled to that computer time if they have booked them as you. You may believe your purpose is higher, you could even be right but it is irrelevant. The library computer service is offered to everyone who books it - and the library shouldn't and wouldn't be screening what they need it for (short of real inappropriate use in a public place - which despite what you think - isn't Facebook). You sound extremely entitled.

looked like a pair of lazy fuckers to me

So many things I could say about you right now, so much fitting name calling but then I'd be deleted again. I'd let you wait behind me for the hell of it while I watched cat videos on YouTube. Grin

Love it!

AOt my local library, you have to book computers. Maybe suggest that as an option, then anyone who has booked (for whatever purpose - you don't get to judge what is worthy & what is not) gets priority...

Then be sure you book your solt when you have important documents to print

Ev1lEdna · 16/01/2014 13:49

flimflamery

Excellent word.

promote · 16/01/2014 13:50

you go straight on here to moan about them wasting time on social networking sites , pot and kettle , you and your time is no more important than anyone elses , wait your turn lady .

BananaNotPeelingWell · 16/01/2014 13:50

Right that it....everyone decamp to the libraryGrin

Fleta · 16/01/2014 13:52

You know what I use my library for? Borrowing books and using the reference books.

Imagine my horror to read that by using a library thusly I may be getting in someone's way who is on Very. Important. Business.

onetiredmummy · 16/01/2014 13:52

Yes you are clearly more important Carrie, you should have told the library staff that you wanted to print out important to you docs then they should have decided who was wasting their time the most & kicked them off the computer so you could go on.

Honestly these people, that chap on social networking who was trying to keep in touch with his family as his phone has been cut off because he couldn't afford the bill was only looking for confirmation of how his mother's operation went, ffs he can do that at any time! Lazy jobless scrounger!

And how dare the 24 year old girl, who can't work because of a medical condition try to keep in touch with her friends & see what they are up to! What a time wasting slut!

I don't mind the job searching lad as he was doing something I agree with & is therefore worthy of using the computer.

I'm not sure about the large document chap or the 2 others as the self indignant rage was full on by this time but whatever they were doing definatly wasn't as important as your documents.

Perhaps in your letter you can point out the need for a computer labelled with 'Productive Purposes' on & nobody except those with self important documents can use it. Perhaps you could think up a quiz that you have to take at the front desk to decide how important your personal business is on a scale of 1-10 & provide special badges so people know that they are more important than others?

Perhaps you need to get a grip Grin

Offler · 16/01/2014 13:53

Will you have to queue up again to print your letter to the council OP? Grin

CoffeeTea103 · 16/01/2014 13:53

Who made you the decider of how people spend their time? You sound like a miserable person, on that note please get a life.

Helpyourself · 16/01/2014 13:53

What did your letter to the council say? (Innocent face?)

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 16/01/2014 13:54

Actually, I think the OP is quite right. How dare people relax and enjoy themselves on their day off!? Personally, I spend my spare time knitting jumpers for orphaned squirrels, and I find it shocking that so many people do not devote their time to similar worthy causes.

Fleta · 16/01/2014 13:54

The OP might not reply......she might be queuing to use a computer to do so.....

BuggedByJake · 16/01/2014 13:54

Yabu how do you know they don't have a job?
If you have 'important documents' to print then buy a printer!

princessalbert · 16/01/2014 13:55

YABU OP.

I used to work in libraries as a temp recently - and the PCs are bookable. Mostly customers are allowed 1 hour per day. However, if it's a quiet day and someone asks for an extra 30 mins or so, then they would be allowed it.

If you were in such a rush, you should have phoned up and booked a slot.

One afternoon recently, our internet was off at home all day, so whilst I was in town I called into our local library to catch up on my fb, mn and emails.

Until the councils put a ban on social networking sites and make the PCs 'serious business' only, then customers can spend their hour how they choose.
