To have caused a fuss in library ??!

I had to pop to the local library this morning to print some important docs out, as we don't have a printer. They have 6 computers, and then about 12 in their computer training room, although there was a class going on so those ones could not be used.

The 6 were all taken up; some guy looked like he was searching a job site (good on him), some other guy was reading large documents, not sure about 2 others, but then there was a girl (about 24ish) and a lad (probably a little older) sat just scrolling through Facebook, and blatantly daydreaming! There was a queue for the computers and I know some locals who do visit every day to carry out job searches etc.

Anyway, I couldn't help myself, and asked the guy on the desk why it was right for people to have to wait for a computer, for productive purposes, while people are sat wasting their lives on Social Networking, when maybe they should be taking a leaf out of the other guys' book and searching the job sites?

It really gets my back up as I'm a huge believer that you need to work hard in life. I had a chat with the lady on the other desk and she was in total agreement with me that the use of SN sites should be banned from these computers - I have written my complaint to the Council Angry

A weirdo because I saw your name change thread Hmm

Pigsmummy · 17/01/2014 11:39

OP YABU

I use Facebook and Twitter for work btw. Even if I didn't I would be equally entitled to use the library Internet in the way I wished, just like you are. I think the council staff will get a good laugh out of your complaint and you need to be more self aware.

SPsMrLoverManSHABBA · 17/01/2014 11:43

This threads as real as her farmfoods/10 year olds smoking thread.

Pigsmummy · 17/01/2014 11:44

Gosh you really need to work on your inter personal skills op. Maybe next time you are in the library google it or get a book?

StanleyLambchop · 17/01/2014 11:45

Well OP, since you asked last night my kids where either, doing their homework , eating their tea, relaxing /playing/reading until bed time. I wasn't on this thread, but I was on MN. I can read/post threads whilst supervising the children. It would have been different if they were still toddlers.

Fwiw, I don't think you have accepted you were being unreasonable either. You come across as 'I was being R and I don't care what you all think!!'.

BigGapMum · 17/01/2014 11:45

Library PCs are not bookable in my area, but at least 1 PC is designated for a 15 minute slot only. That's fine for a quick job like checking emails or printing something off.
Because someone can only be on it for a short time it has a quick turnover of users. The other PCs are used by computer malingerers though.
This system seems to work quite well usually. Maybe you could mention it to the library service as a positive suggestion, rather than just moaning about having to wait.

I saw the namechange too. You don't get to erase previous threads when you namechange - if you really want to try again and start anew here then don't announce it, just do it.

I think though that unless you radically change your attitude you will still stick out like a sore thumb on here because of your, erm, views (?)

Beverly I wasn't trying to erase previous threads ?!

My name isn't Jodi either, just wanted to follow the trend on here but I don't give a shit I'll post my real name! Dunno why you all don't anyway tbh, what's with the secrecy ??!

OP posts:
TheRealCarrieBradshaw · 17/01/2014 12:17

And b4 any smart arse pipes up, AGAIN, only reason I started as Jodi was because I thought you had to use a different name to your email address, not very technical on these sites, including Shitbook

BeverleyMoss · 17/01/2014 12:20

I'm not saying you were trying to erase literally - just that if you make a dick out of yourself on threads in a previous username tghey don't just disappear when you namechange.

So if you wanted to try again and to not be a dick don't go announcing the namechange, and see if you get a better reaction.

And with the username thing not being our real names, it's just how it's done here.

ohhifruit · 17/01/2014 12:22

You really do have a preoccupation with what other people do with their time. Why is this? Do you require spreadsheets?

This idea that people should be visibly working all the time is really bizarre. Time for a word or two from Bertrand Russell: grammar.about.com/od/classicessays/a/praiseidleness.htm
And the wonderful Steven Poole www.newstatesman.com/2013/12/right-be-lazy

UncleT · 17/01/2014 12:32

I think we all missed the bit where she saw the error of her ways, mainly because it didn't happen and it all just got worse and worse. Saying 'I accept you all think I am unreasonable' is very far from actually understanding why pretty much everything you said is appalling.

Fakebook · 17/01/2014 12:34

Hi Jodie, my real name is Selma Butt.

MarmaladeBatkins · 17/01/2014 12:35

"Couldn't jump on last night, I was actually looking after my children,"

What? All night? You should try putting them to bed at a suitable hour. I bet the poor little mites are shattered this morning. :(

Mine were bathed and bedded by 7.30pm on the dot. :)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/01/2014 12:36

Carrie - you may not have said you don't accept you were being unreasonable - have I missed the post where you said you did accept you were being unreasonable? And nasty, snippy posts about 'who was caring for your children whilst you were on here?' and the like, don't give the impression of a poster who has read other people's opinions and accepts they might have been unreasonable.

And a question - how, other than by the use of a crystal ball, or by developing the power to read other people's minds, are the people on the computers supposed to know why those queuing for the PCs need to use them? Do they all have big labels round their necks -eg. 'Going to use Social Networking sites', 'Has Very Important Documents to print off', 'Is going to look for jobs'??

You might also consider that you were only seeing a very small snapshot of these people's days - and it is not sensible to extrapolate a whole life on the basis of what someone is doing for 30 minutes in the library.

MarmaladeBatkins · 17/01/2014 12:36

My real name is Anita Bath.

onetiredmummy · 17/01/2014 12:40

Hahahahaa

I don't use my real name because if I start a thread about my massive anal piles or my disgusting blackhead I really don't wish to be recognisable & have people edging away from me in the playground Grin

SPsMrLoverManSHABBA · 17/01/2014 12:46

My real name is SHABBA. Its not very MN worthy so people will judge me.

Its not my fault my dad is Shaggy.

No one said Jodi was your real name. I said your old username was JodiA or whatever.

BeverleyMoss · 17/01/2014 12:50

my real name is Laurence, I work for Wibley Webb Estate Agents.

Fakebook · 17/01/2014 13:13

Onetiredmummy, I know who you are! You're Anne L. Piles from Pratts Bottom. Grin.
