To have caused a fuss in library ??!

I had to pop to the local library this morning to print some important docs out, as we don't have a printer. They have 6 computers, and then about 12 in their computer training room, although there was a class going on so those ones could not be used.

The 6 were all taken up; some guy looked like he was searching a job site (good on him), some other guy was reading large documents, not sure about 2 others, but then there was a girl (about 24ish) and a lad (probably a little older) sat just scrolling through Facebook, and blatantly daydreaming! There was a queue for the computers and I know some locals who do visit every day to carry out job searches etc.

Anyway, I couldn't help myself, and asked the guy on the desk why it was right for people to have to wait for a computer, for productive purposes, while people are sat wasting their lives on Social Networking, when maybe they should be taking a leaf out of the other guys' book and searching the job sites?

It really gets my back up as I'm a huge believer that you need to work hard in life. I had a chat with the lady on the other desk and she was in total agreement with me that the use of SN sites should be banned from these computers - I have written my complaint to the Council Angry

Dear x council.

I would like to make a complaint about people who use the library to print off their very important documents.
If they are that important then surely they should have invested in a printer.
I think it is disgusting. They are using the library paper and ink and electricity, I can only assume because they do not want to bear the cost themselves, ink and paper being quite expensive.
I use the library to job search and I have to print out my cv, applications forms etc because I do not have Internet access at home, so this person is taking resources away from me by using library ink and printers
I cannot afford to have a computer as I am currently unemployed. This person clearly can, therefore my need is greater than theirs.
Please can you stop people who can afford computers and broadband taking advantage of public resources, like paper and ink because they are too cheap to buy their own.
Many thanks
Tantrums

Next time you are in the library, print that off and give it to the job seeker man. He can then make a complaint about you.

Peekingduck · 16/01/2014 13:57

Op, you're being a "lazy fucker" doing a bit of internet socialising now.

WilsonFrickett · 16/01/2014 13:57

Most ironic thread ever. Love it.

Oh yeah - YABU

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2014 13:57

Why didn't you print your stuff off at WORK op

AgaPanthers · 16/01/2014 13:57

I always get my butler to buttle my Very important Documents (VDs). It is proof of how important they are, and if there are some stray layabouts in the way then he will walk right over them, and quite rightly so.

Nothing should get in the way of my VDs!

Good point. And someone wanting to borrow a book for English Lit should have priority over someone wanting the same book for Meeja Studies, innit.

MinesAPintOfTea · 16/01/2014 14:03

Don't libraries also stock mostly books which are read for fun rather than serious research material?

I was annoyed by someone on Facebook in the library on Tuesday. But I'd made a special trip to the city library to use a specialist database that they only have there and they reserve two computers for (with the other 30-50 being for any legal use you can imagine). The librarian kicked him off and made him book another computer for another day...

ExcuseTypos · 16/01/2014 14:03

Yes complain to the council! I expect they have a file, especially for people like you.

peachactiviaminge · 16/01/2014 14:05

ahem

DidoTheDodo · 16/01/2014 14:07

Heavens to betsy OP, do you know how you are coming across?

AllThatGlistens · 16/01/2014 14:07

Oh wow this thread has actually made me laugh out loud! Lazy fuckers indeed OP, you tell em Grin

AlpacaPicnic · 16/01/2014 14:07

I'm mumsnetting in the library!

But its ok because I work at the library doing important library things like toddler singing groups and colouring in!
My job is hard... Grin

PumpkinPositive · 16/01/2014 14:08

YANBU OP. Clearly these oafish layabouts were fresh from mugging little old ladies in bobble hats, bunking off their work programmes/day release from jail to boast about their nefarious exploits to fellow criminal scum
on FB.

I'm only surprised you didn't take the law into your own hands, frankly. Such admirable restraint in the face of sore provocation.

Its a public library, people can use the computers for whatever purpose they wish. YABU

SilverApples · 16/01/2014 14:11

I'm always astounded by the number of tabs my children have open at any one time, and their ability to multitask using multimedia.
FB is one of a dozen things they can do at once.
OP, YABU. Buy your own printer.

AwfulMaureen · 16/01/2014 14:13

You're kidding. Go to an internet cafe where you pay to use the comps. If those people were leafing through books or mags would you also call them lazy fuckers because YOU wanted them??? No..well the computers in the library are the same as the books...first come first served and people can take as long as they want.

Sirzy · 16/01/2014 14:15

FB is great for procrasting, I often have FB and mumsnet open when I am trying to write assignments!

DreamingofSummer · 16/01/2014 14:18

This is probably the most entitled, snobbish and upyourself post that's ever been put in MN even in AIBU.

Do you also object to the library stocking stuff by Katie Price and David Beckham as it's not improving enough?

Curlyweasel · 16/01/2014 14:18

Fuck me, that's funny. AgaPanthers you made me laugh/wee with your buttled VDs.

StElmo · 16/01/2014 14:23

Gileswithachainsaw I love your user name! I watched that episode last night :)

Gileswithachainsaw · 16/01/2014 14:26

:o

Thank you! Has to be one of the best one liners

Floggingmolly · 16/01/2014 14:27

Most people with important business to conduct are not reduced to conducting it at the library.

WaitMonkey · 16/01/2014 14:29

YABU. But there should be a limit on how long someone can use the computer.
