To have caused a fuss in library ??!

I had to pop to the local library this morning to print some important docs out, as we don't have a printer. They have 6 computers, and then about 12 in their computer training room, although there was a class going on so those ones could not be used.

The 6 were all taken up; some guy looked like he was searching a job site (good on him), some other guy was reading large documents, not sure about 2 others, but then there was a girl (about 24ish) and a lad (probably a little older) sat just scrolling through Facebook, and blatantly daydreaming! There was a queue for the computers and I know some locals who do visit every day to carry out job searches etc.

Anyway, I couldn't help myself, and asked the guy on the desk why it was right for people to have to wait for a computer, for productive purposes, while people are sat wasting their lives on Social Networking, when maybe they should be taking a leaf out of the other guys' book and searching the job sites?

It really gets my back up as I'm a huge believer that you need to work hard in life. I had a chat with the lady on the other desk and she was in total agreement with me that the use of SN sites should be banned from these computers - I have written my complaint to the Council Angry

Cinnamontoast, I heartily recommend turning this thread into a celebration of laziness.

My favourite excerpt on this topic is the Novella "The tale of the man who was too lazy to fail", embedded within the (completely mad but fairly entertaining) sf novel Time Enough for Love, by Robert Heinlein. I love both the sentiment and the vivid writing style.

It opens with this excellent quote: "Neither work nor early rising is a virtue. But getting up early does not get more work done…any more than you can make a piece of string longer by cutting off one end and tying it onto the other. You get less work done if you persist in getting up yawning and still tired. You aren't sharp and make mistakes and have to do it over. That sort of busy-busy is wasteful. As well as unpleasant. And annoying to those who would sleep late if their neighbors weren't so noisily active at some ungodly cow-milking hour. Ira, progress doesn't come from early risers-progress is made by lazy men looking for easier ways to do things" [sorry about the sexism, it's grating, I know]

You can read the whole Tale here, along with the rest of the book. theuniversityoflove.com/MAP/RESOURCE_CENTER/LIBRARY/FICTION/Heinlein_Time_PDF.pdf

I was actually looking after my children, who was looking after yours while you're all sat on here thinking yers are dead funny ?!

Why were you looking after your children??! Haven't yers got some important documents to print? Go print!!

Salmotrutta · 17/01/2014 14:54

Il admit it.

No-one was looking after my children last night Sad

... Because they are all grown up and stuff.

Oh, and I'd better explain that I am posting just now because I only work a half day on a Friday.

Just in case anyone thinks I'm lazy scum.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/01/2014 16:12

Salmotrutta - I am almost as neglectful a mother as you are. I have no idea what ds1 or ds2 were doing, and only the most general idea of where they even were (that's assuming they were in the cities where they are at university). But at least I did know where ds3 was, and made sure I cooked him a proper supper. I could have spent more time with him, maybe doing some colouring with him, or helping him with his schoolwork, reading him a story or tucking him up in bed - but at 16 I think he'd have been horrified! When I was on here last night my children were in bed. That okay? Being that it was dark and night time & all.

I can't BELIEVE MNHQ deleted my song. 'twas Oscar worthy.

Sincerely, Betty Filder.

Mrscupcake23 · 17/01/2014 21:01

Sounds like you are really a nosy person. Get a life and stop looking at other peoples business.

DaleyBump · 17/01/2014 22:41

I see I was deleted yesterday. Good thing I copied my post in case my phone went funny. Here it is, minus the insult.

What do you think of me OP? Today I went out during working hours with my hair scraped back, same jeans as yesterday, no make-up and my baby puked on me while I was out. I browsed my local charity shop and wandered around my village for a bit. I'm also 19. I must be a lazy fucker, yes?

I'm off on maternity leave from university where I'm doing a BSc and got bored waiting for my husband to get home from work. Lazy fucker indeed.

coffeeinbed · 17/01/2014 23:10

Was that the deleted post Daley?
Can't see why it was deleted.

DaleyBump · 18/01/2014 00:12

Nah, I said "fuck you, OP".

Classic AIBU. 400 plus posts telling the OP YABU and still the OP thinks they are BU.

Well here's another YABU to add to the count.

trixymalixy · 18/01/2014 00:47

*NBU

wouldbemedic · 18/01/2014 01:52

You sound awful. What if they looked over your shoulder and decided you looked like a lazy fucker, just gossiping on mum's net? Or is that different?

perplexedpirate · 18/01/2014 02:04

You are absolutely right! The poor will be reading fucking books next.

5OBalesofHay · 18/01/2014 02:06

If we have a whip round to buy you a printer would you consider fucking off?

DioneTheDiabolist · 18/01/2014 02:17

YABU x 2 Carrie.

YABU for not understanding how business works in the 21st century. And YABU for not understanding how libraries work.K

Eminybob · 18/01/2014 07:30

Arghh I don't know if you are still reading OP (and if you are - why? You clearly aren't interested in what anyone has to say which begs the question why post on aibu?)
But....I can't believe your attitude, and the fact that you won't back down. You can't see how ironic you are being, entitled, judgey, rude, ignorant... The list goes on.

Even if the people on Facebook were unemployed, doing nothing about it, and have never done anything about it then they are still just as entitled as anyone else to use Facebook. On any PC they choose, including one in a public library. Just as you, as an unemployed person are entitled to use mn as you choose to do so (although you clearly don't understand aibu so maybe you should avoid it in future eh?)

But the fact is, you have no idea what is going on in their lives. They could have been looking for jobs all day, they could have just been for an interview, they may have just finished a bit of open university study themselves and were taking a break. If not, it doesn't matter in the slightest to whether or not YABU. Because YABU to think that you are more important than anyone else in this world. You are not.

Get a grip, get a life.
