To be angry over this???

My cousin was over for the weekend and we had a great time... But...

  1. Her bank card is missing so she only had limited cash - I paid a lot, cooked dinner, drunk my wine (she came empty handed)

  2. After she left I went to put a load of washing on and her towel is missing. She's not the tidiest, so I text to ask where is was hiding. She responds that she's taken it Hmm

There was no apology! It would appear it was not in error, and it is a massive bath sheet- can't miss it at all!!! Also heavy, and cost £££

So AIBU to be really angry that she's taken advantage of me, stolen this from me??

I texted back saying I want it back although am sure she will 'forget' it. She should really offer to post tomorrow.

I can't believe am so angry . My own cousin , and I know it's a towel, but it's ruined such a great weekend, and now am worried what else is 'hiding'

The main thing is you had a great time...and she's family. Just be wiser to her antics next time, and maybe pull some of your own ;)

Salmotrutta · 12/01/2014 20:22

Don't get mad OP.

Get even.

Go to her place and accidentally take her car.

CocktailQueen · 12/01/2014 20:23

lol at taking a bath sheet accidentally!! How is that possible?

Am Shock at her behaviour. What a crap cousin!

LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:23

She will never post it. I'll never see it again. It's a towel, yep, one that cost good money, yep

What I can't get over is being stolen from and coupled with the lack of bank card , I feel utterly mad

LadyofDunedin, it was that she said "maybe" she had taken it,and "my bad" means a mistake doesn't it?

She said ..." 'I don't know', maybe I've taken it, oh yes, I have, my bad, you huffing?"

So it looks to me as if she had somehow took it by accident. It seems very unlikely that someone would steal from family at all, let alone an old towel.

LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:24

tall what you said is all nice and fluffy, but I am not accepting poor behaviour from family or otherwise.

RandomMess · 12/01/2014 20:26

Do you ever buy her gifts?

Next time send her the matching well used hand towel.

LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:26

honey she had one bag, one. It's huge, it's colourful , it's heavy. She knew she was taking it, and she did

It's nice you're trying to see the accident in this. In the absence of any form of apology, or action to fix it, it's clear this was taken willingly .

I don't like to thing someone - my cousin- stole from me- but that's exactly what this is, and why am so mad

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 12/01/2014 20:27

honey seriously- how can you accept that she said 'maybe I've taken it' and 'oh yes I have' in the same text'?!

She is clearly taking the piss.

WeAreDetective · 12/01/2014 20:27

You can not take a large bath towel and pack it into the one travel bag you brought with you without noticing that the bag is fuller than it should be!!

And I think you are interpreting that email very kindly 'honey'. It can be read very differently!

Nanny0gg · 12/01/2014 20:28

There is no way you can 'accidentally' pack a towel.

you know what towels you own, you know you didn't bring one and you know it isn't yours.

I would be furious!

And Honey - it wasn't an 'old' towel. And 'my bad' doesn't mean it was a mistake either. It means you know you did something wrong.

Are you the cousin?

ProcessYellowC · 12/01/2014 20:29

Is there any chance that she could have been menstruating and marked it (or even left skid marks accidentaly!)?

LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:30

Thanks nanny that did make me giggle , the last line!!

Fuckety fuck to my non matching bath sets now!!!

OP posts:
LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:31

process surely you just say or bung it in machine yourself if so

WeAreDetective · 12/01/2014 20:31

Can you go and stay with her, forget your card and steal it back?

LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:33

In her pigsty one bed flat?! No way. If it naked it into her flat it will be lost forever!!!

OP posts:
LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:33

Makes not naked!!!

WeAreDetective · 12/01/2014 20:35

Grin shame! Could have been fun to try...

WooWooOwl · 12/01/2014 20:35

Cheeky cow!

Is there any chance that you or another local family member will be travelling near her any time soon so you could make a big deal of asking for it to be picked up?

If your mum is anything like mine, it will be known about by the entire family, including the ones that live abroad, before the end of the week.

HermioneWeasley · 12/01/2014 20:36

Tell her that you need it for other guests so she can either wash it and post it back, or send her a link to one which would be a suitable replacement and tell her to order it online and have it delivered to you.

Cheeky cow!

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 12/01/2014 20:38

YANBU

She hasn't lost her bank card. How else could she pay for a car? Maybe a bank draft but when DH bought a car it went on his card.

Don't let this go. Keep hassling her until it is easier to send it back than it is to keep it.

honeythewitch · 12/01/2014 20:38

Ohh... Just seen Nannyoggs post about "my bad" meaning you have done something wrong.
Oh well. It looks like the cousin is not only a thief but hard faced with it!
If I was forced to have her in the house again she would be offered kitchen roll to dry herself on!

LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:39

woowoo my DM is the same ! She was disgusted, started suggesting kleptomania and all sorts , typical mother chat!!!

OP posts:
LadyofDunedin · 12/01/2014 20:41

toffee was a bank draft, but she should have done one for me too! Am probably too polite and embarrassed to accept, but case in hand was there was no offer

That's a joke, right? Hmm The papers are full of horror stories about people who do just that and worse.
