Inspired by the HW thread, I have been thinking about this for a while.

Arthur works for the MoM so wont be on a pittance as a head of department, even a minor one as there would surely be grades?

They eat massive amounts of expensive food having three courses at every dinner, cooked breakfast every day. When they win a load of money, instead of saving it in the knowledge that they have 4 kids still at school they blow the lot on a holiday of a month in Egypt! At the beginning of CoS Mrs W takes some silver sickles and ONE gold galleon from their vault, and then happily blows 1000 galleons on a holiday rather than see them financially secure for the next few years.

Seems to me that the reason their kids are in second hand robes and reading second hand books is because they are shit with money, not that they dont have enough.

Books.....They have to have a new Miranda Goshawk book each year, so when F&G have finished with them they could have passed one to Ron who passed it to Ginny and the older ones shared the remainder if they needed it, which is unlikely. Why have several unused copies of the same book in the family and still buy another one for the youngest student? Same with robes. Rons dress robes are second hand, but Mrs W says that Arthur has some for parties so why not lend him those (with some magically performed alternations if needed) rather than pod out for horrible second hand ones? Actually, thinking further, Mrs W is supposed to be a whizz at household stuff so why doesnt she transfigure the second hand stuff to look better?

They just throw good money after bad!

LOL! His face is hilarious.

Know-it-all smuggery. More powerful than a Killing Curse, and don't we on Mumsnet realise that!

Bogeyface · 07/09/2013 19:58

The Phelps boys are lovely, had an old lady crush on them for quite a while, although James is slightly cuter imo Blush

I love the Phelps. And Rupert Grint. And Domhnall Gleeson. So all the Weasleys except Percy. I'd give Mark Williams a whirl too.

confuddledDOTcom · 07/09/2013 20:28

I love the twins. I'm Brummie and you don't really hear the accent anymore so I love listening to them talk! Then you have Julie and Mark talking too...

The proper Brummie accent is not that faux Black Country/ Wolves/ Tipton/ WB mash up that you tend to hear when people put it on. All those have distinct accents and are different from Brummie, even Brummie varies, my niece and my daughter are both very Brummie but together they're totally different because they live in different parts of the city, their Girl's Brigade friends sound different again because they go to one by my parents house in a different part. Then there's black Brummie, Asian Brummie, posh Brummie... Accents from the borders of the other areas. I love accents lol

The Phelps were on Pointless Celebrities this evening - worth a catch up on iPlayer if you're a fan.

AintNobodyGotTimeFurThat · 07/09/2013 20:42

I loved the Phelp's on pointless celebrities.

They seem really nice lads actually and quite intelligent. :)

I always thought madeye would have a sex dungeon, don't you think? And I am madeye after all

Bogeyface · 07/09/2013 20:51

Is it just me though, that thought that John Noakes didnt quite get why he was there?

For someone who was always so on the ball and full and life it was quite sad to see the delay between his good score and his cheer because Peter Purvis had to explain that he had done well :(

I found myself strangely taken with the Phelps twin in the red shirt.

AphraBehn · 07/09/2013 21:10

Bogeyface I agree about John Noakes Sad. I was looking forward to some anecdotes from him but he just seemed lost.

Bogeyface · 07/09/2013 21:13

Aphra (great name btw, studied her for my abortive OU degree!) Red shirt was James, the cute one :o

I was looking forward to seeing JN too, and you're right, he did seem really lost. I was especially sad when he said "Can I go home now?" as he was clearly out of his comfort zone and not entirely happy.

Glad I'm not the only one who thought John Noakes looked lost. Thanks for pointing me at Pointless Grin I'm enjoying this!

WHAT?!?! iplayer cuts out during Bar Tender And The Thief!

SlutherinFan1991 · 25/01/2024 22:10

molly Weasley could be a niece of Miranda Goshawk because the first of the nine Goshawk sisters Unetta Goshawk married Coakley Prewett, an actor in Diagon Alley. That’s is how Ginny knew the Bat-Bogey Hex either she met Miranda Goshawk or her maternal grandparents told her about that hex.
