Aibu - crap staff using mental health excuses

Aibu to think that whilst there are many many people with genuine mental health issues, I am sooo pissed off that when crap member of staff is "found out" they play the mental Health stress card, get signed off sick and you can't really do anything about it.

I am mostly pissed off because they ruin it for the genuinely ill people.

How do you know their problems are not genuine? Are you a Psychiatrist?

You have NO idea whether they 'get better' or whether they are forcing themselves to do something that they are not physically or mentally capable of doing without severe repercussions because it's all they can do to put food on the table!

You are not being unreasonable. I'm having this exact issue at work, we are severely short staffed due to a member of staff being signed of with mental issues and 4 of us at work are also unwell, which actually affects how we work as our job is on your feet and can be very busy and are all having to do extra hours to cover mentally unwell colleague where all four of us could technically get signed off in a heart beat due to our ailments but don't for the good of the team really erks me!! I don't want to go into detail of what is wrong with the other colleagues but two have been in hospital in the last two weeks, one to A&E in an Ambulance. And I have been previously signed off sick with my ailment.

No. You are not having to cover. You are CHOOSING to.

If you or colleagues are unwell, be off sick also. Don't play the martyr card and suggest that your colleagues illness is less important than any of yours. THAT is exactly why the stigma persists. [anger]

Holy crap, little cloud... Before you rip into your sick colleague, why don't you take a good look at whether your employer is meeting their health and safety responsibilities. What are they doing to you al???!

If you or other colleagues are ill, take time off. Don't pretend you are 'taking one for the team'.

If your colleague being ill makes the rest of you ill through stress, take it up with your employer - not the member of staff that isn't willing to be walked over.

Jointhegang and Littlecloud do you think the doctor just signed them off to annoy you or perhaps you think they plucked up the courage to go to their GP just to get out of work.
Just because you don't understand their illnesses doesn't mean that they don't exist.
