To find James O'Brien LBC presenter a condescending twat
Movingout · 29/05/2013 10:36
Am I the only one that finds LBC radio presenter James O'Brien infuriating. Whilst he has the face for radio he does not have the voice; but worse, I hate the way he patronises callers that are obviously less educated and less articulate than he is. He sounds like a patronising bully and it makes for uncomfortable listening. Unlike Nick Ferarri he has zero charisma.

Nick Ferrari is a thick puppet of the Daily Fail ass licking the London Mayor at every opportunity. He does have an amusing way of putting his topic over that gets less intelligent listeners riled and phoning in without thinking. I do listen for the entertainment value.

No idea why O'brien is still on LBC, smugly belittling anyone that disagrees with his opinion on any topic... branding any concerns of the increase in the population due to immigration as racist...."OK caller tell me how immigration affects you personally"...well come on caller "its not a trick question" (favourite put-down) ...unpleasant radio.
Charitybelle · 09/01/2015 08:47
I like him. He can be a bit smug and is occasionally guilty of riding roughshod over people, but I tend to find it's the moronic callers that wind him up, so it doesn't bother me too much. The debates on his show often introduce me to different ideas and points of view, which is why I listen.
Can't stand Nick Ferrari and Julia HB. Agree with jojolil what is with her always swallowing her spit mid-sentence?! She needs some lessons in how to speak on the radio. I can't listen to her for that reason. Also she is very anti-women and I've head her bordering on rape apology, boils my piss.
The drive time guy is just too monotone and boring for words, he sounds like life depresses him and he's ready to end it all!
MrsKravitzFromAcrossTheStreet · 09/01/2015 09:29
I love James but only because I almost always agree with his opinion - if I didn't the way he hectors and shuts down the opposition would be infuriating. He outsmarts the caller 99% of the time because he is very intelligent and, well, they usually aren't.
I think it's a bit daft how he badgers people with the 'how does it affect you personally' argument though; I have not been personally affected by child abuse but I am still very much against it.
myfallingstar · 09/01/2015 13:15
I find him to be a champaign socialist
It's very easy to pontificate on immigration when you live in the very white middle class chiswick I wonder if he would wax lyrical if he lived on one of the more diverse estates in white city or in sheperds bush .
And he always thinks he knows better than others who have actual experince
NickBV · 11/01/2015 10:05
Surely whether you're the only one who thinks that of James O'Brian is irrelevant. You made your point. He's not condescending at all. He just makes the average ranting bigot who frequents this show thank about what they have to say before they rant and that's why so many listeners have problems with him.
Stoatmusket · 20/03/2015 18:38
Yes - he controls the conversation and has his say against anyone he disagrees with before going to the news or travel etc., so he always gets the last word. Also he had a lucky interview with Farage (I'm not a supporter), that made him too big for his britches and then Godforbid, he turns up on News night and that is no place for a self-confessed lefty liberal if you expect impartial interviewing. I don't have a problem with his beliefs, to which he is entitled, but impartial he ain't.
Lottapianos · 20/03/2015 18:53
Stoat, you've nailed it. He's always been an egotistical loudmouth but since the Farage interview and the News night gigs, he's utterly insufferable. He's very rude and condescending and not nearly as bright as he thinks he is.
Having said that, I do often listen to his show because I find it impossible not to engage with and never dull!
Nebby123 · 18/07/2015 14:44
I agree that James can be patronizing and at times pretty rude though nowhere near as much as many of the other presenters. I think the cause is two fold. In the first instance I believe just about every presenter on LBC is told to be frequently obnoxious, patronizing arrogant know-it-alls as this brings the listeners back time after time. Secondly I think that as old hands in the presenters role, at times they have a tendency to believe in their own self importance. Having said this I do not mind James and can forgive his patronizing etc. moments because for the most part I believe he is a genuinely caring intelligent person which in my view, most of the LBC reporters like Nick F, Juliet H B and the miserable Petri Hoskens are not. I suppose the bottom line is that the bosses of LBC give us what by our significantly high listening numbers the presenters we want. I do have this horrible and scary recurring nightmare that I have tuned in to listen late at night and discover that they have taken on the world's most obnoxious nasty ex Apprentice candidate and now would be presenter Katie Hopkins. If that day ever comes, I will pack up and leave the country.
Icimoi · 18/07/2015 15:48
I used to listen to LBC, mostly when driving to work when I channel-hopped between LBC, Radio London and BBC4. However, after a few weeks of listening to that idiot Ferrari I stopped listening in the mornings. I didn't mind JO'B, thought Petrie Hoskins and JHB were both thick as bricks, and quite liked Iain Dale and Clive Bull.
However, I gave up on LBC after they had Katie Hopkins on at the time she was telling the world she didn't care about refugees drowning. And I can't say I've missed it at all.

James O'Brien tolerant and polite?
Are you listening to the same show I am. He has that rare quality of being both arrogant and ignorant. His shows are desperately under researched and when he disagrees with someone he talks over them half way through the second word of each sentence, in such a bullying and nasty way, you have to wonder what childhood trauma he went through to make him so angry and hate filled.
Snowmunch · 04/08/2015 08:24
O'Bile, outsmarts callers??!
Have you not figured out that he is able to cut off, fade out and. critically, carefully select the ones he wants to get through.
Imagine a boxing match with some uncoordinated weakling fighting against an opponent with one wrist handcuffed to his ankle. That's the kind of fair bout that it is. He's a self loathing, hate filled bully, with a massive chip on his shoulder.
