To find James O'Brien LBC presenter a condescending twat
Movingout · 29/05/2013 10:36
Am I the only one that finds LBC radio presenter James O'Brien infuriating. Whilst he has the face for radio he does not have the voice; but worse, I hate the way he patronises callers that are obviously less educated and less articulate than he is. He sounds like a patronising bully and it makes for uncomfortable listening. Unlike Nick Ferarri he has zero charisma.

I'm a long time LBC listener but it feels more like the radio equivalent of the Daily Express these days. I think Nick Ferrari even has a column in the paper. My favourites past and present are Bob & Doug, Brian Hayes, Michael van Stratton, Clive Bull and Nick Abbot. Can't abide Julia HB or Petrie Hoskins.

I was looking for somewhere to vent, as he has gone beyond irritating and into fear and hysteria mongering over the impact of voting Brexit. I find his hypocrisy revolting, how on the one hand he can absolve 'ordinary Muslims' of any complicit tolerance or connection with the rise of Islamic Fundamentalism, yet claim Brexit and Brexit voters are responsible for the death of Jo Cox and hate crimes. His comments I find fairly hateful if you are not on the same side as him. Oh and he does not stop banging on about the fact he went to boarding school and LSE - so did I, but I am not so insecure about my status I have to bang on about it repeatedly. WHo cares? He is completely out of touch.

I agree about O'Brian, I can't listen to him anymore. He is a self opinionated bully. Callers are an inconvenience to him, and if he had the chance would spend two hours on one of his monologues. Nick Ferrari any time for me.... It's a shame we can't have Katie Hopkins on every day. Two hours on a Sunday isn't enough.

I admire Mr O'B. He causes me to rethink my reasoning thought processes. He exposes stupid thinking in myself & others. I don't always agree with him. His logic was seriously flawed on Friday gone. I'd have loved to have called his show & pointed it out.
I absolutely adore Steve Allen. My Dh loathes him. His voice & patter soothes me in the wee small hours.
PETRONELLAS · 03/04/2017 12:27
I've been thinking of writing to JO'B. He's intelligent, articulate and very unusual on the radio these days but he's getting complacent. And sometimes sounding Dave Gormanish in his intonation. If I hear 'binary zeitgeist' one more time I will have to switch off.

I like James O'Brien very much. LBC is my favourite radio station, most of the presenters are great. Ian Dale is by far my favourite though, love his open mindedness, the fact he is always happy to be convinced otherwise, they both just seem like genuinely nice men. Of course I don't know them personally.
Julia Hartley etc winds me up a little.

You are by no means alone I rather suspect. O'Brien is a humourless precious leftie which is bad enough. Worse, far worse, is his unremitting love of his own voice. Every day, from 10.00 for about 20 minutes we are subjected to his ghastly and tedious introduction to his "today's number one issue". i sometimes think the length of this ghastly homily may reflect the utter boredom of his audience and their reluctance to actually join in...Jacob Rees-Mogg wiped the floor with him.

One of my new favourites is Maajid Nawaz, absolutely brilliant and should definitely be replacing JOB at the 10am slot so I can listen LBC at that time, without cringing. Unlike JOB, Maajid is very good at exposing the hypocrisy of so called 'tolerant' Muslims and ardent Corbyn/Momentum supporters.

LOVE James, he actually gives well-thought out, intelligent opinions and demolishes ignorant and bigoted callers in a v satisfying way. Nick Ferrari is a verbal bully who constantly cuts people off if they don't share his opinion - and don't get my started on Herr Farage!
Mrsstraightview · 14/09/2018 13:48
Its all down to ones world view really...so
Narrow minded insular old fashioned = Nick Ferrari
Open Minded driven progressive = James O brien
Personally my mum likes Nick, I and my peers find James an oasis in a world dominated by dinosaurs from the 80's i.e. Clive Bull, Nick Ferrari and the Dipodocus, Nigel Farage

I have a bit of a love/hate "relationship" with Mr O'B but he does seem to get away with some outrageous statements. I can't remember off hand past ones that have given me pause, but from today, stating that a clergy headteacher was probably calling out female pupils to not shorten their skirts because he was turned on by it was a classic example.
Witchend · 15/09/2018 13:46
I've met him. Dd2 and some of her friends from her charity were on the radio with him for the Global Make Some Noise Day. He was lovely with the children, let them pose for photos with them and made them laugh and relaxed with him.
I've never listened to him other than that but he certainly didn't come across as arrogant to them, rather the opposite.
