To find James O'Brien LBC presenter a condescending twat
Movingout · 29/05/2013 10:36
Am I the only one that finds LBC radio presenter James O'Brien infuriating. Whilst he has the face for radio he does not have the voice; but worse, I hate the way he patronises callers that are obviously less educated and less articulate than he is. He sounds like a patronising bully and it makes for uncomfortable listening. Unlike Nick Ferarri he has zero charisma.
dustwhatdust · 08/01/2014 12:43
Totally agree with you.
I find him a patronising hypocritical bully:
He gets extremely aggressive- rather nasty actually - when anyone challenges him. He constantly belittles people who have an opinion contrary to his, in such an outrageous way I am amazed at his spitefulness !
He regularly shuts people down ( cuts them off ) whenever they get bit too close to convincing the listener to go against his position.
Also he is so full of himself, so egotistical but often presents this faux self deprecating stance - when it suits him, he referred to this thread today.
I enjoy the debate on LBC but most of the time when he's on I change to Radio 4 or Radio London.
I could go on but I won't ..

I don't mind TBH who I listen to (on LBC) when I;m driving, but Steve Allen is a pillock of the highest order.
He comes out with a long , verbal drivel stream (luckily he's only on for 30 minutes after our radio alarm, and I doze through 99% of his waffle)
He does a One Man Show that sells out . Either people have some kind of masocistic tendancies or they think he's funny ?
dustwhatdust · 08/01/2014 15:16
I like the cross section of people and presenters on LBC you certainly cannot compare it to the daily mail in my opinion .
I really enjoy Ken Livingston and David Mellor, they had Owen Jones on the other day as a stand in for Ken. Larry Lamb is good too as is Ian Collins and Ian Dale's evening show covers really wide ranging topics.
I don't mind Ferrari most of the time, at least he's fair.
Have to say, I totally agree about shocking Steve Allen - can't abide him and his bile...and Robert Elms is such an inverted snob but he does play good music .

I agree that JoB is up himself.
He does shut callers down if they successfully counter his point of view.
He does like showing off how well educated he is and he loves the sound of his own voice.
I frequently disagree with him.
However, I love listening to him! But I'd never phone him...
Unclench · 08/01/2014 20:49
YABVU James O'Brien has more talent in his little finger than all the other presenters put together.
In contrast to what some posters have said, I find that very often he changes his opinion as a result of what people have to say when they ring in.
He is smart, quick thinking, honest and funny.
If you don't like listening to him you can jog on turn off you know?
nennypops · 09/01/2014 14:06
I second the comment about Ken Livingstone and David Mellor, their programme is one of the best radio programmes around.
But I'm quite at the suggestion that Ferrari is fair. I really hate the way he won't allow people whose views he opposes to make their point without interrupting them constantly and chuntering away in the background so that they and everyone listening is distracted.
formerbabe · 10/01/2014 05:49
I love to listen to LBC including James O'Brien despite the fact I disagree with much of what he says!
I could never stand James Whale and I thought Aasmah Mir got far too much airtime over Christmas...her voice is so monotone I have to switch over!
Does anyone remember when Jacqui Smith got a slot...it was dire.
Timetoask · 10/01/2014 06:25
I used to listen to him but simply got tired of the way in which he bullies callers he doesn't agree with, I really don't like him at all and I will never ever tune into LBC when he is on. At that time of the day I much prefer to listen to Jeramy vine who is fantastic.
areyoubeingserviced · 10/01/2014 19:20
Think Ken Livingstone and David Mellors show is great.
Think the rest of them are crap, so I don't listen to them.
Can't abide JHB and that Nick Ferrari . They are both obnoxious prats and not very bright .
I listened to Vanessa Feltz show today and was impressed by the impartial way she handled the Duggan case.
NF and JHB could learn a lot from her.
getagoldtoof · 10/01/2014 19:47
And as to why I listen to it - R4 do constant raduo dramas - arghhh! And bbc london have/had the two worst presenters in the history of life itself who have no chemistry and sound as though they're bored stiff of each other.
Oh, and JOB does change his mind if convinced which few of them ever do.
Ps JHB sounds like she has a long-term sinus infection, and bores me to death too...!
CaptainTripps · 11/01/2014 21:29
Anyway I like JOB. I listen to him at the gym. He makes an interesting listen and gives an interesting perspective on most topics. Try his mystery hour on Thursday 12-1. Bloody hilarious.
He is an alright bloke too. Saw him as a 'support act' when I went to see Steve Allen. When he took questions, the first question was 'when is Steve Allen coming on?'. He took it well.

I have laughed so much at these posts!! You lot are very funny! I love LBC but so totally agree about JHB being a tad self righteous... And Emma's voice dip!! ( I think she may be from Birmingham - it's an accent? gives her an excuse??) it does definitely drive you mad though. I love James O B and often find myself repeating him at dinner parties when I am called upon to be interesting and articulate- I'm not sure if want to be Mrs O B though. She would need to be a tough old cookie!! Iain Dale - a sweetie and Petrie too. I think nick f is fab! Hey now it's gone NATIONAL
will Julia be up to it!? Yes she will!! But Julia you must try and swallow your spit more quietly and preferably not in the middle of your sentence!! At least julia can say Marylebone properly unlike the traffic report people!! Ahhhh it's all out now - i feel better!!

I occasionally listen to Nick Ferrari only so I can laugh at his porky pies. Favouries are:
"I live in Blackheath" No you don't mate, you live in my street, I'm closer to Blackheath than you and my postcode is most definately Lewisham (so low rent).
"My sons..athletes..so well behaved" etc. Hmm, your son's share your body type and more than once I've had to employ by teacher voice when I caught them throwing stones at cars. Nowadays they piss off the neighbourhood by carelessly parking their fleet of vehicles (7 last time I counted) across the street. They have so many they can't fit them all in their triple garage and extra wide drive.
I notice he's stopped slagging off his ex wife as much. She truly is a lovely person and much missed by the neighbourhood.
