To ask why the MN forums have such little functionality?

So, other forums let you quote other posts, or put text in different fonts/colours etc, or indicate your 'thanks' for a post. Can't be that difficult / expensive, so why are these added functions not available on MN?

All very valid points... Hadn't realised that an uncluttered forum is actually quite a nice place to be :)

A 1 minute edit time would solve the problem of people editing their post to stir shit etc.

AprilFoolishness · 22/04/2013 21:54

Olivia, you now owe me one Mac keyboard, as I've just spat my drink ALL over this one! Legendary moderation skills there. Love this place.

imour · 22/04/2013 22:09

thanks oliviamumsnet for answer .

StuntGirl · 22/04/2013 22:19

I am a million per cent in agreement with the OP. Sometimes its like MN is its own little version of the internet.

But then I still use LJ, so, you know, what do I know.

HoneyDragon · 22/04/2013 22:27

Kniddy! Put that Mnetter back right now. And step away from the trowel.

BallerinaZeena · 22/04/2013 22:30

The simplicity of the forums on here is great but it's an ugly site. It's overcrowded and just a bit too much.

BIWI · 22/04/2013 22:42

Well, if you don't like it ...

effedorf · 22/04/2013 22:47

StuntGirl - well you don't know that there's no such thing as a million per cent for starters Wink

SirBoobAlot · 22/04/2013 22:58

< applauds Olivia>

BallerinaZeena · 22/04/2013 23:06

I really like mumsnet biwi and use the iPhone app. But I know the site design really puts some people off - if it was better they might use the site which would mean more profit for mumsnet hq, which I'm all for Smile

WallyBantersYoniBox · 22/04/2013 23:06

Because I will verbally go after anyone that posts an opinion (albeit a nice, funny, clever one) if they do so and leave a signature that is a little picture of kittens in a basket after some gobshite happy clappy quote in primary coloured gothic sans script involving "reaching for the moon and stars whilst treading on the grapes of bitterness" which in one post I will have to see no doubt continuously.

And a little head rolling from one side of the screen to the other laughing and mocking with shades on. Not cool. Not cool at all.

"Confucias says : mumsnet is an angry wasps nest at times. Don't hit it with a cricket bat"

RemindMeWhatSleepIs · 22/04/2013 23:07

Olivia Grin - mumsnet is the best!

TheVermiciousKnid · 22/04/2013 23:07

Do I have to, HoneyDragon?

Ok, I'll just eat a tortoise then. And it's your fault.

Nanny0gg · 22/04/2013 23:12

I couldn't possibly comment...

Because MN is about the content, not frills.

Sparkling wit is 1000 times better than twinkling tickers.

Mumsnet has leaking wee kinda funny instead of LOLz.

And you don't need quotes to show compassion, to hold a virtual hand (or give a virtual kick up the virtual arse), or to see someone through dark hours, bereavement, infidelity, or just dealing with a toddler in meltdown.

We like it as it is.
