I'm thinking of getting a rather nice picture of me and DP printed on to a canvas or something to put in our front room but I'm a bit stuck as to whether this is bad form or not?
I've been round many houses and always notice when they have big pictures of themselves up. It just seems a bit weird to me.

Um, I was a life model for years all through Uni and then afterwards at the college of law.... I bought a picture of myself for then DF (fiance - not, I haste to add, father....) and when we split up, I took it back off him Grin

It's in mine and DH's bedroom now. Yup, it's a full-on full-frontal nude Wink but there's no head, so you can't really tell it's me (it's all arty, see?) unless you were, as it were, previously acquainted with my bits.

I like it. And it's in our bedroom, where I think a bit of nudity is AOK.

Hully I like your photo!

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 23:12

Golf?

fervid?

TuftyFinch · 26/09/2012 23:16

Rabies?

steppemum · 26/09/2012 23:28

mamij, that is amazing, did she do it herself or get it done?
My parents 50 wedding next year, would love to get something like that done for them

HoldMeCloserTonyDanza · 27/09/2012 00:55

Oh Hully you are wonderful.

Chocolate do you not worry about the cleaning lady seeing it? And/or if you don't have a cleaning lady, is it because you don't want her to see it?

This thread is great.

ChocolateIsAFoodGroup · 27/09/2012 01:56

Tony it's all arts-and-craftsy, see - if you didn't know it was me (hadn't seen me close up, so to speak Grin) you wouldn't necessarily twig Wink.

I never thought about our poor cleaning lady, though.... Oh dear, maybe I shall buy it curtains?!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/09/2012 03:41

Love this thread

Love seeing pics of people up, not those weird posed ones or at least not those if they're the only ones, but I have friend's who've got various photos of themselves with family/friends etc and especially if they're old ones.

We've printed up tons of photos of our nearest and dearest since we moved abroad, mostly for DS to remember people, but haven't framed any.

I normally hate photos on canvass, unless they're non-people arty cool shots, but DH got one done of DS slightly out of focus, big wide eyes aged 18months with blatant cookie crumbs round his mouth. It's cute but I still squirm a little that we have it!

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 27/09/2012 03:42

I want to see Ivor and Chocolates pics now

Holly3Golightly · 27/09/2012 06:55

Fine as long as you try to eliminate all cheese......unnecessary props, white fluffy sheepskin rugs, eyes looking into the middle distance, any semi-nakedness.

CanIOfferYouAPombear · 27/09/2012 07:53

I feel like a bit of a perv but I want to see chocolates picture as well!
I do like nudey arty pictures, especially in the bedroom where it's a bit more private. Don't know if I'd want one of my saggy bits hanging over the bed though!

I like the idea of lots of little family pictures, I think they would make me happy :)

A quick look around this room reveals four photos of DW and me, framed, not hanging on the wall.

Three are of both of us - the best shot together we got on some trips we had taken.

The fourth is a self portrait of DW, one of those ones where you hold the camera at arm's length and point it at yourself. She is holding a can of beer in the other hand, and looks terrifying in it. Makes me laugh whenever I see it.

Two are A4, the others are postcard sized.

I like seeing photos of people I know and wouldn't find it strange if they had photos of themselves all over the wall.

worldgonecrazy · 27/09/2012 09:53

We have some naked ones of us done all arty and black and white which are up in the bedroom. They were taken years ago when we were both less saggy. I completely forgot they were there until one of my friends needed to borrow my hairdryer and came out and said "nice tits".

VonHerrBurton · 27/09/2012 11:07

It's not that I don't like to see photos of people, I do. We have lots. Small-ish in different frames dotted around.

I don't like 'look at me/us, aren't we cute/sexy/gorgeous and look where we had this canvas done - yeh, it's cost hundreds'

Friends of ours have these canvassy type things everywhere - in the loo, kitchen, utility room, everywhere. Dc standing in flowerpots with plastic flowers on their heads, dad 'n' lad in a wild west saloon style up, pretending to shoot eachother Hmm mum lying on a tropical looking beach in a tinnnyyy bikini...

Not too keen on that whole look, tbh.

MerryCosIWonaGold · 27/09/2012 11:10

I guess if they are all of you then it is a bit self indulgent. We have lots of pics up, mostly of our family, mostly of the kids, but also the wider family, and some of friends too. I enjoy looking at happy memories and it's the easiest place to see them, on the wall! I think perhaps when they are 'focal points' it is a bit more 'look at me', but if you enjoy looking at it and it makes you feel good, then that's what's important.

DrunkenDaisy · 27/09/2012 11:44

Utter cheese-meister. Don't do it, people will laugh.

DH used to model for Storm and I'm no minger, so no case of green eys, but I am pissing myself at the above.

AngryFeet · 27/09/2012 13:29

You bloody were there! I just checked the party thread cos I thought I was going mad.

AngryFeet · 27/09/2012 13:31

Oh and the picture comes up under google 'nude black and white couple' images. Telling porkies Hully? Wink

PeshwariNaan · 27/09/2012 14:00

We paid a lot for nice wedding photos and we wanted to put them up around the house! We don't have DC (yet) so I imagine in the future we'll have a greater variety of photos. But DH and I were long distance for so long, any photo we took together was a record of a lovely holiday. So I'm proud to put them up, don't really care if others think it's obnoxious as it took us so long to get a home together!

Hullygully · 27/09/2012 14:46

Yep, we thought about suing the person, but it was to much ag.

Pagwatch · 27/09/2012 15:18

Hully, mr Hully and Derek are famous.
Googletastic

Hullygully · 27/09/2012 15:20

Well, notorious more than famous. Especially Derek. You should have seen what the Daily Express said!

Pipsqueak99 · 27/09/2012 15:23

Oh dear, we have a large canvas wedding picture on the wall upstairs Blush. I have been looking at it in a different light since I read this thread and I wonder what people think when they come round now Blush

Hullygully · 27/09/2012 15:24

Naked?

Pipsqueak99 · 27/09/2012 15:28

No hully we were dressed at our wedding ;).
I think I'd feel better about it if we were naked though having read all of these. Seems like the trendy arty farty thing to have on your wall.
Love yours by the way :)

Mintyy · 27/09/2012 15:30

Your dh is fabulous on his skates isn't he Hully?
