I'm thinking of getting a rather nice picture of me and DP printed on to a canvas or something to put in our front room but I'm a bit stuck as to whether this is bad form or not?
I've been round many houses and always notice when they have big pictures of themselves up. It just seems a bit weird to me.

Hully weren't you at the MN xmas party? I don't remember you looking like that. I remember someone who was in their 50's with grey hair

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 18:29

IN THEIR FIFTIES?

I said it was quite a while ago but I am not in my fifties

Narked · 26/09/2012 18:47

Grin You have retired to the countryside.

Pagwatch · 26/09/2012 18:47

Oi!

AngryFeet · 26/09/2012 19:03

Hmm sorry. I must have you confused with someone else. You don't have grey hair then? Were you even at the party?

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 19:12

There's nothing wrong wth being in one's fifties, of course.

EXCEPT WHEN ONE ISN'T

And no, I wasn't there, I was at an elegant soiree in honour of Derek and ? photographer as it happens.

gordyslovesheep · 26/09/2012 20:13

something like this would be lovely!

bigmouthstrikesagain · 26/09/2012 20:57

One of my BiL's is an excellent painter, he did portrait of himself as a Bacon style nude and it is hung on a wall in their house there are also other portraits of him, dsis and their children. My dh was a bit shocked I think but it is a very good painting and I find it hilarious.

So go for it if you are happy with the picture and it would make you happy - then why the heck is it anyone elses business Smile

bigmouthstrikesagain · 26/09/2012 21:01

I should clarify the other portraits are not Bacon style nudes!

freddiefrog · 26/09/2012 21:09

I'm not keen on those large Venture-type posed canvasses, (i dont like the style of them, i prefer more natural/candid pics) but each to their own. Your house, your walls

One wall of our dining room is covered in family photos.

Loads of smallish framed pics (largest frame is 8x5) hung higgledy piggledy over one wall - pics of the kids of the beach, days out, etc, etc and we keep adding to it over the years. I love it

TuftyFinch · 26/09/2012 21:39

Nice pic Hilly.
A famous photographer gave me his card once in a pub in Camden and asked me to ring him. I had no idea at the time who he was, I thought he was just a bit odd. He was very famous. Duh. I lost the card.
Me and DH were in a national magazine, in our pants. Well, they weren't our pants but still.
There's a painted picture of me in our living room that DH did when he were a student. It's a nice picture and you wouldn't really know it was me.

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 22:39

yeah but are you NUDE?

theinets · 26/09/2012 22:51

Sorry but I find hullys photo repulsive and extremely tacky. No self respecting couple should prostitute themselves for the camera like that. Gross.

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 22:54

HOW VERY DARE YOU?

Why would you be so hurtful? Even if you thought that, why would you say so?

theinets · 26/09/2012 22:59

People are giving opinions. I'm really sorry if I offended. Most people seemed to like it, I know I'm the odd one out.

TuftyFinch · 26/09/2012 23:00

That was such a fucking horrible thing to say!!! I guess you just like those lively Ikea pictures?
Hully. Ignore. No, just very nice White pants.

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 23:02

I was really proud of that picture. Now it's tarnished. Whenever I look at it I hear that comment and it's spoilt.

Thanks.

Narked · 26/09/2012 23:02

'prostitute themselves for the camera'

I think you really need to learn the difference between prostitution and art.

That Mona Lisa, what a slut!

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 23:03

We weren't even paid!!! Not in hard cash anyway. Jeez.

Rowanhart · 26/09/2012 23:06

It was a mean thing today. But lettingnitbtarnish something you've had for years is silly. Can't let random mumsnetters have that kind of power over you...

TuftyFinch · 26/09/2012 23:06

Are you a self respecting couple though? Hmmm? It's not spoilt. Don't let it be spoilt.

Hullygully · 26/09/2012 23:07

Poor Derek paid a heavy price too.

People don't think about that kind of thing do they when they just let their bile spew forth?

Dh is really upset, he says he knew that would happen because of his leg.

GreenEyesAndHam · 26/09/2012 23:09
Grin
TuftyFinch · 26/09/2012 23:09
