Pictures of yourself up around the house - AIBU?

I'm thinking of getting a rather nice picture of me and DP printed on to a canvas or something to put in our front room but I'm a bit stuck as to whether this is bad form or not?
I've been round many houses and always notice when they have big pictures of themselves up. It just seems a bit weird to me.

Ooh this moved on quite a bit from me posting!
Ivor your painting sounds lovely, what a lovely DH to paint you!

hully Shock I was not expecting that! Did you ever manage to get the paint out the cracks?!

I've decided that I will get our picture printed out and put up, I don't want it to big though and think we will probably put it in the bedroom. We've got plenty of pictures of family members and some paintings up. I just can't help but feel a bit narcissistic to have pictures of myself up still!

If this makes you feel any better.

a couple of years ago I found a folder on my mother's computer entitled "Photos of me". I looked inside - because she's an odd woman.

And they were all photos of her. Some of them had originally been photos of her and other people but she'd cropped them to remove the other person.

Some of them were photos she'd had taken with my DS!

There were hundreds of them.

Very odd!

I love it that she'd removed the other peopel!

Well we all like different things. but i agree with Waitforit. Small photo's of you, kids, weddings, christenings rtc I think look lovely, but great big canvas sort of shouts narcissistic/look at us/delusions of grandeur (unless its a 1700's 'family seat'/castle w the generations depicted in 30ftx30ft's everywhere ....) ...

and.. just thought, you don't see them in 'House Beautiful' type mags do you ? Tho u do see them on home makeover shows when they are on a budget w. limited time (cheap space fillers?)

I think, tbh, that you have to be a bit careful because people can be jealous. We've had some odd comments that I can only put down to the gree-eyed monster.

If you look quite close up I think you can see the green eyed monster...

what about the gree-eyed one?

I still think it's odd to walk into someone's house and see pictures on them on the walls. Eyes follow you round the room... I have one small wedding picture in a silver frame, and some baby pics of the dch, & that seems normal to me. Back where we used to live there were some posh people who had a big oil painting of him & her above the fireplace. I wouldn't have the brass neck to do that, but each to their own.

Having said that, I do have one of me in the bedroom have just remebered. So yes, that's what I'd do in your case - you obviously don't feel comfortable with being brazen so have it printed but stick it upstairs.

No. The gree eyed one is less of an exhibitionist.

Who would have thought puny old Jeremy would turn out to be such a hunk eh Hully?

We have a fairly big photo of us from our "engagement shoot" (hideous but part of the wedding photography package) that people at the wedding signed the mount/frame on... I always feel a bit odd when I see it hanging there in our bedroom, but it IS a lovely photo...

I don't talk about Jeremy.

That chapter is closed.

Shh. Hully doesn't want to talk about it. He was her ex-husband who was from a dynasty of builders of roads across the trackless wastes of the undiscovered world.

I love photos and have several of the DC around when they were young cute

Not sure about ones of ones self though . Once babysitting I saw the lady of the house had large portraits dotted around of her in various poses just wearing a grandad shirt Hmm.

Slightly off topic I hate those studio pictures where the person has been so made up and posed with feather boas etc that they dont actually look like themselves at all. Then people say "wow you look amazing " which is kind of insulting ?

Maybe I just need an early night Grin [moody emoticon]

Ooer

Hully, what do your neighbours in the cuntry think about your photo?

OP, I am planning a massive canvas print of one of our wedding photos...BUT it's going on the stairs to the top floor, AND it's us from the back not our faces. A face one seems a bit too weird for me. Not sure I want to see a big blown up pic of my face, never mind others seeing it.

Thanks! I've put on a couple of pounds since then and gone a bit grey, but y'know good bones are good bones!

My parents in law have one of these. It is massive and above their fireplace. He is lying on his front and she is sort of crouched behind him. It looks like she is mounting him and it freaks me out. They often use it as a xmas card.

So no I don't like them and find them creepy.

It's the muscle tone and lack of bloody cellulite I envy Hully. Well done .

getting I agree with you about those vaseline smeared on the lens photos. They seem to make everyone look like an extra in Dynasty.
