I made corned beef sandwiches last week for work as really fancied some I hadn't had any in years. Sat down in the staff room and noticed 3 of us had the same. It must be going though a revival.
Haslet reminds me of my DH when he went back to uni as a mature student. We'd have Haslet sandwiches for lunch most days or Tongue. Dinner would usually be his homemade pasta sauce which was basically a tin of economy tomatoes (never chopped as they were more expensive), an onion, some dried herbs and whatever was on the supermarket reduced shelf. We had some interesting meals that's for sure.

Badgerina · 09/09/2012 01:44

YABU Confused bluuueeergh! It's made of old ladies legs.

lou33 · 09/09/2012 01:49

I love corned beef, it is comfort food to me. I don't eat it very often though, and when I do I always feel a bit iffy afterwards. And a bit grubby, as though I have been caught out doing something pervy by the postman.

Thumbwitch · 09/09/2012 01:58

Haslet doesn't seem so bad, although I wouldn't eat it now cos it's made of pork (makes me sick).

Anyone a fan of brawn? I could never stomach that as a child either and wouldn't even consider attempting it now.

sashh · 09/09/2012 05:57

Does anyone else remember when the corned beef was taken off the shelves during the Falklands war? You couldn't buy it anywhere.

I also like haslet and have eaten brawn, I don't think I'd want to cook my own though.

Leena49 · 09/09/2012 06:11

Move to Tonga they absolutely love it there and eat it with everything. I know because it's all we ate when we were there for a week.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 09/09/2012 09:15

I bought brawn recently, Morrison's sell it. I liked it, and so did DD till I told her what it was!

PuppyMonkey · 09/09/2012 09:17

Love corned beef. Love corned beef and baked beans.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/09/2012 09:35

Love corned beef. Used to hate it as a child though?

It has quintruplued in price in the last few years though... :(

Coconutter · 09/09/2012 09:36

Corned beef. Tomato ketchup. Crusty white bread.

YUM Grin A sandwich like that at lunchtime makes work more bearable.

sleepingbunnies · 09/09/2012 09:38

Love corned beef! And so does my daughter! :-)

wisdomoflollygag · 09/09/2012 09:42

Alright.Let's not call it corned beef.Let's call it two year old dead cow in a tin from South America containing growth hormones, antibiotics AND Sodium Nitrite (E250).

RuleBritannia · 09/09/2012 09:45

Badgerina

If you know it's old ladies' legs, I assume you've already tried old men's legs so you know the difference.

Growlithe · 09/09/2012 09:46

I'm really craving two year old dead cow in a tin from South America containing growth hormones, antibiotics AND Sodium Nitrate (E250) hash now Grin

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 09/09/2012 09:47

Meh, I like a two year old growth hormone and antibiotic riddled dead cow, in sodium nitrite and squidged into a square shape Grin

wisdomoflollygag · 09/09/2012 09:48

Nitrite.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 09/09/2012 09:49

Life would be so boring if you only ate what was good for you.

SecretNutellaMedallist · 09/09/2012 09:50

and you still aren't putting me off, wisdom.

Please stop trying to police what people choose and like to eat. It's getting a bit tiresome. If you want people to stop eating it, why don't you bulk buy every can in the UK and dispose of them? and then make it illegal.

It's the only way.

wisdomoflollygag · 09/09/2012 09:55

Tiresome? I've only posted three times.Probably means you haven't bothered to check anything I've said.

Passmethecrisps · 09/09/2012 09:56

Corned beef =delicious! I agree that it now costs a squillion pounds. Corned beef hash is a delicious wostershire saucy treat!

My mum use to buy haslet for our sandwiches when I was on student summer holidays and we both worked in the same factory. Makes me grateful I don't work there anymore wistful

Don't know what brawn is. Will google and report back

AnitaManeater · 09/09/2012 10:00

Corned beef is gert lush.

I like to fry it off with onions, mix it with mashed potato until it resembles a big pink blob and slop it onto plates with baked beans. It looks like prison food but tastes divine. I don't give a monkeys what part of the cow is in it. A dead cow is a dead cow whatever bit of it you decide to sink your teeth into and boy does it taste gooood!

SecretNutellaMedallist · 09/09/2012 10:01

three times over 14 hours on the same thread.

I have checked.

wisdomoflollygag · 09/09/2012 10:05

Bully for you!
