Yanbu corn beef hash

itsjustmeanon · 08/09/2012 22:03

I love corned beef hash. My DH won't try corned beef, he's convinced it's disgusting.

panicnotanymore · 08/09/2012 22:06

I wouldn't give corned beef to my dogs. It's far too high in salt.

I love it myself though. Corned beef and tomato sandwiches on white sliced. Yum.

wisdomoflollygag · 08/09/2012 22:12

Looks like nobody googled Sodium Nitrite. It's a carcinogen and corned beef is full of it.'Corned' means salted and in this case the 'salt' is Sodium Nitrite.

Fried onions

Fried par boiled spuds

Chopped Corn Beef (straight from ring pull tin)

Parsley

All in one pan with a good squirt of ketchup

Served with a fried egg on top

a Family fav, very yummy and extremely filling.

nkf · 08/09/2012 22:19

That's how I make it. But no parsley. Bit posh that.

MrsDWho · 08/09/2012 22:23

Ha. I am Grin at everyone ignoring the posters who are trying to put others off Corned Beef.

Seriously, not every eats things without knowing what is in it. It is their choice, and it doesn't affect you so what's the problem? A bit of Corned Beef every now and then isn't going to hurt!

I love Corned Beef Stew. My mothers is absolutely awesome. I just kill it though, so I only ever have it when I am visiting her, which is probably about 6 times a year. Is the only thing I look forward to when I visit.

Sixer · 08/09/2012 22:33

shhh dried parsley out of a bottleWink

McHappyPants2012 · 08/09/2012 22:44

Love corned beef, I never keep it in the cupboard but in the fridge as it comes out easier in the tin.

LST · 08/09/2012 22:48

Corned beef and potato pie! Mmmmmm

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 08/09/2012 22:50

YANBU, corned beef and rice is lovely.

Fry it with finely chopped onion and have it with long grain rice.

Tigerbomb · 08/09/2012 22:50

Corned beef pie in my house. Onions, potatoes, stock cube and a huge puff pastry topping.

My dad makes something called Sponge stew which is basically the above but without the pastry topping

It used to be a really cheap meal but corned beef is a bit pricey these days

PseudoBadger · 08/09/2012 22:51

I made corned beef hash for the first time ever yesterday! It was good. But I did use reduced fat and salt corned beef. That was a mistake.

LimeJellyforBrains · 08/09/2012 23:09

My Italian mum who is a wonderful cook sometimes makes a pasta sauce with corned beef in, and so do I now. Just make a basic tomato pasta sauce (you can skip the salt as there's enough in the corned beef) and add cubed corned beef. I like to cook my sauce for 2 hours if poss to make it really rich (none of this modern 20 minutes rubbish!), but add the corned beef for just long enough to heat it through or it all disintigrates. Enjoy!

(When I haven't time to make my own sauce, I just add it to a jar sauce. Blush)

janji · 08/09/2012 23:14

Ooo, not had corned beef for years! White bread, corned beef & sweet piccalilli (if that makes me common with an untrained palette then bring it on)!

CoffeeInTheMorning · 08/09/2012 23:31

Corned beef and chips on the odd occasion, or with old-fashioned plate of salad and bread&butter.

Even better - home-made corned beef pie with pastry crust and a little mash potato and fried onion and shredded carrot in there too with lots of seasoning.

Best and easiest of all - Greggs Corned Beef pasty (which isn't always available in Greggs "in the south")

scrablet · 08/09/2012 23:47

Tiger. I agree. Definitely not a cheap option any more.

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 08/09/2012 23:53

YANBU. I love corned beef sandwiches. On batch bread, with just butter. And a big glass of cold milk. My Mum always has to have this when she gets back from holidays, so any time the folks are away, I make sure to put some milk and freshly sliced corned beef in their fridge, and yummy fresh batch bread in the bread bin, on the morning of the day that they get back. Then the Mammy can get stuck in as soon as she gets home.

Am so going to have to have corned beef sambos for lunch tomorrow .

tidyGOLDbaby · 09/09/2012 00:01

YABU to eat it on its own, but if it was put into mash (corned beef hash), then it is a lovely, heart-warming comfort meal.

bruffin · 09/09/2012 00:05

I was just remenissing to do Dd today about the lovely corner beef and tomato rolls they used to sell at Dewhursts by Liverpool Street station.

theinets · 09/09/2012 00:09

I had a corned beef and branston pickle sarnie this lunchtime..lovely!

piprabbit · 09/09/2012 00:10

Corned beef can be very, very yummy.
I also have a soft spot for Haslet sandwiches - but I really don't want to know how it is made.

theinets · 09/09/2012 00:13

Does anyone like haslet? Not something you see very much in the supermarket but it's fab!

ShadowsCollideWithPeople · 09/09/2012 00:19

What is Haslet? Should I google it, or just buy some and make sambos out of it? In an 'ignorance is bliss' kind of way? Grin

JoInScotland · 09/09/2012 00:24

About once a year I think, "Mmm, corned beef. Strangely nostalgic for a corned beef sandwich now" as I have fond childhood memories of eating corned beef. Mind, my favourite thing until I was 6 was liverwurst. So I buy a tin, and inevitably end up giving it to the cats, who love it. Then I forget all about it for another 12 months.
