Men hitting back in self defence?

Have just been shown a shocking video on you tube of a girl attacking a man (i assume it was her friends taking the video on their mobiles?) and the man punched her back and knocked her out. AIBU to think that it served her right? DP seems to think IABU and that man should have just run away. I kinda feel conflicted now, violence is never good but i am struggling to get past the feeling that she reaped what she sowed.

Yanbu. If she wants to hit people, woman or not, she has to take the consequences.

And all her friends laughing then being outraged when he hit her back makes my blood boil.

dp says he would never hit a woman and would just run away, which I guess is a good thing, but I still dont think it would be unreasonable to hit back.

I would walk away if possible but if not, I am not going to piss about and wait to see if she has a bottle or a knife in her pocket, she would be neutralised as safely as possible. If that meant knocking her out, I could sleep soundly.

If I attacked someone, I would fully expect them to hit me back.

If a man was beating the hell out of a woman, and the woman hit back what would people say??

Violence is never good, but sometimes things happen and people react.

My DH was a victim of domestic violence and didn't reciprocate, but I don't think I'd condemn a man who did, depending on the situation anyway.

A grown man punching a girl unconscious? That seems rather an excessive use of force to me, but I rather fail to have much sympathy for the girl.

I want to say that she deserves to be hit back, because I think she does. However, I would still think less well of a man who actually hit her, than one who restrained her, but didn't actually knock her out. I know that's not entirely fair of me, though.

I don't have any sympathy for this woman, though.

Imo if you are going to pick a fight, you should expect to be smacked right back. Male or female.
And regarding 'restraining" her, that imo is not practical. Some one is attempting to kick the shit out of you, your brain wants to survive not conform to social expectations. People die from fairly minor fights. U think he can be excused for not doing what society considers correct.
Imo women can't go around beating men because they are women. That's going back to when men did it to women. Surely we have moved on enough to know its not acceptable.

Stupid, idiotic girl got exactly what she deserved. At the end, looked like the "friends" were going to take matters into their own hands. Hope the bloke is ok :(

He hardly hit her hard, and she wasn't knocked out. She fell to the floor, but mainly because probably she wasn't expecting him to retaliate so took her by surprise.

I agree that if you hit you deserve to be hit back, no matter what your gender. Women can't expect to be able to be violent to men and have nothing done back to them in return just because they are female.

Some men are only little, whereas some women are huge and have twice the strength of men.

She deserved it.
But her punches didn't actually look like they would of even hurt, so fair enough for him for sticking up for himself, but possibly didn't need as much force.

It looks like one of those videos some teenagers make of them purposely going for some random person, these horrible things are all over youtube. I fucking hate those people, they make me fucking sick.

From what I can gather it's not uncommon for girls to target a man on the assumption that he'll a) not fight back and b) not go to the police because he'll be ashamed he was battered by a girl. I don't know if it's dailymailitis but I'm pretty sure a couple of blokes have ended up knifed or in hospital.

So in short, that particular girl did deserve it, and if any woman starts attacking a man then they should also expect him to defend himself.

Fair comment monsterbook, but the guy's not to know when she'll cross the line and really hurt him so I can't knock him for preventing it.

I think he actually looked quite scared after and her nasty little friends went wild, he shouldn't have been put in that position and he certainly shouldn't feel ashamed of defending himself from random people attacking him whether it hurt or not.

If you attack someone then you should expect them to fight back and I don't think any sane person would condemn anyone male or female for defending themselves from attackers. From the video I assume the girls thought that he wouldn't fight back but she deserved it IMO.

Seems entirely reasonable to me. He returned her slap to start with but that didn't stop her, so he hit her hard enough to make her stop. Hopefully it will discourage her from bullying attacks in future.
