Men hitting back in self defence?

Have just been shown a shocking video on you tube of a girl attacking a man (i assume it was her friends taking the video on their mobiles?) and the man punched her back and knocked her out. AIBU to think that it served her right? DP seems to think IABU and that man should have just run away. I kinda feel conflicted now, violence is never good but i am struggling to get past the feeling that she reaped what she sowed.

I was sickened by the fact that her friends thought it was hilarious when she was hitting him, but the minute he hit her back they were appalled and on him like a pack of hounds.

bogeyface · 22/07/2012 01:50

that and the "lesbian" bit in the title.. WTAF?!

MrsJohnMurphy · 22/07/2012 02:07

This video looks totally fake to me, especially the punch at the end, I think some amateur dramatists maybe hoping for a storm in a teacup, could be wrong.

Krumbum · 22/07/2012 02:23

He should restrain her. Two wrongs don't make a right.

TheDreadedFoosa · 22/07/2012 02:26

He should restrain her?

Who on earth are you to dictate how a frightened person, outnumbered and being repeatedly punched should react, ffs?

TheDreadedFoosa · 22/07/2012 02:28

He clearly didnt hit her to even up the score, he hit her because he tried running and she caught up with him and had him backed into a corner and pushing her away didnt work.

bogeyface · 22/07/2012 02:31

He should restrain her

How?! If he held her arms she still had two legs and a head. If someone is on a beserk then restraining isnt an option.

sashh · 22/07/2012 02:38

You don't always need to retaliate to defend yourself. He could have run. Two wrongs dont make a right and all that.

He looked like he was running away, she ran after him and shoved him into a wall. And it looks like we is either trying to restrain her or stop her hitting him and when that didn't work he punched her - a single punch.

RumbleGreen · 22/07/2012 02:50

If your going to attack people then you deserve to be punched by the person your attacking regardless of size or sex. If that man was being attacked by another man the same size as that teen would anyone say what he did was wrong?

Krumbum · 22/07/2012 03:29

It's notrelevant to sex. To knock someone out you have to hit very hard. Obviously it can a natural reaction to hit back but in terms of what you 'should' do then run or restrain.

CheerfulYank · 22/07/2012 03:59

Do we have any idea of the back story of the video?

AdoraBell · 22/07/2012 04:23

Just looked at the clip, couldn't see it earlier, and it looks like he was trying to get away. His assailant persued him to continue the attack. Anyone who attacks another person needs to be stopped. When there isn't a handy police officer to stop the attack then the victim has to defend themselves.

And I'm assuming the word "girl" is being used to mean female. Rather like a mid-forties woman being referred to as a girl. I didn't notice any children involved in the attack.

No-one should feel they can get away with hitting another person, whatever the excuse they use to rationalise their behaviour. And anyone who does should not be surprised to get hit back.

It is completely possible to see what is happening in this video. No idea what the back story is, no idea how hard anyone hit anyone. But what I don't understand is why everyone is ignoring all the 'lesbian" stuff in the title. What's that all about??

seeker · 22/07/2012 07:23

Completely impossible I mean!

Proudnscary · 22/07/2012 07:37

Agree, Seeker.

And why are people falling over themselves to say 'the bitch deserves it'. Like 'Phew we have a legit situation where a woman does deserve violence'. Weird.

Finding this thread unpleasant, no matter how unpleasant the girls in the video.

peoplesrepublicofmeow · 22/07/2012 08:51

looking at the video it seems the girl got what was comming to her, you shouldnt hit people and if you do, you loose the right not toget hit back.

however, the video started late and finished early, i would like to see what happend before and after before i give proper judgement.

GhostShip · 22/07/2012 10:20

The back story is that the girl are her friends were pissed and decided to attack a man who is well known for being disabled.

However, I don't think any backstory is needed in this. It's a bit obvious the girl is repeatedly attacking a man who is trying to back off. With girls laughing in the background.
I hope she's bloody ashamed of herself the vile individual. And her friends.

GhostShip · 22/07/2012 10:20

And people ignoring the 'lesbian' title. Maybe because no-one is getting sidelined by a stupid and ignorant title when there's a more important issue at hand

seeker · 22/07/2012 10:21

How do you know, ghostship?

GhostShip · 22/07/2012 10:26

I like doing my research before I commit to an opinion on such a thing.

seeker · 22/07/2012 10:50

Me too. Care to share the results of your research?

edam · 22/07/2012 10:51

I did spot the 'lesbian' title and thought it was bizarre and prejudiced.

GhostShip · 22/07/2012 10:57

I can't now, her Facebook has been taken down. That had all the information people would have needed.

GhostShip · 22/07/2012 10:57

She is a lesbian btw, not that it needed to be included in the title.
