I am fat. I have been for years. I rarely eat crisps or chocolate. I have a takeaway about twice a year. I have wine 3 times a week.
My work hours are crap so i go for hours not eating, then get starving. Work is constantly on the move and not sitting at a desk.

I am still fat.

I go to the gym 2-3 times a week and do a 2 hour dance class once a week.

I am still fat.

The last 3 weeks theres been a bootcamp at the gym do i have been 5 times a week.

I am still fat.

More than that. I am actually a kilo heavier than i was last week.

AIBU to be unutterably pissed off. And fat.

What do you eat (and drink) in a typical day? Be honest.

Gumby · 27/06/2012 17:21

What do you eat?
What's your portion size?
My dh is fat - he thinks a snack is an apple, banana & orange allot same time
And 2 slices of bread and butter before bed Hmm

RandomMess · 27/06/2012 17:21

YANBU to be pissed off, sound like your body is in starvation mode because you do not get to eat regularly?

The kilo gain probably is the muscel you've developed doing bootcamp.

shushpenfold · 27/06/2012 17:25

Sorry if this sounds harsh but you can't put on weight without eating too much for what you expend in calories...it's that simple. Since hitting 41/42 I've put on half a stone and have finally taken it off by

  1. accepting my harsh truth...it took 6 months to accept and then another 3 months to realise that I couldn't just cut down and bit...
  2. exercising hard 4 times a week
  3. AND cutting down seriously on the calories, especially on the evening meal...I try to avoid all carbs then if possible....i.e. loads of green/orange veg with protein but no potatoes
Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:26

Portion sizes probably too big. Have to eat when i can so think its a bit caveman and holds on to what it can as it will be hours before the next meal.

Don't eat crap (much).

I gave up alcohol for the whole of lent and didn't shed a single gram.

So bloody unfair. I look like a person who eats 5 meals a day with a chinese for supper.

Fat doesn't magically appear so you're doing something wrong somewhere. Perhaps it's the fact that you starve all day and then eat? Your body will hold onto as much fat as it can because it doesn't know when you're next going to get fed.

Have you ever had your thyroid checked? I believe that can mess with metabolism.

Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:33

Example today which is pretty standard...

Nothing until 3pm when i had 3 slices of toast.

Dinner will be chicken and salad. Maybe some bread.

Yesterday was fishfinger sandwich for lunch then chicken korma (from a jar - low fat) with rice. Fruit for snack.

Day before i had toast for brunch. Then a jacket pot with beans for supper.

It is carb heavy. But thats what is quick and filling.

I don't eat mounds of vegetables. Rarely do 5 a day. But i also don't eat piles of crap either.

Height and weight please, and typical day of food...

Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:35

I could give up work and eat regularly. But then we'd be homeless.

Or give in to fatness.

OP posts:
Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:36

I'm very sorry. Its not just all about exercise and what you eat - your brain plays a role. It may well be telling you you need bigger portions than you really do (through hunger!). This is really hard to overcome even if you eat healthily and exercise. Recent evidence suggests that to help with weight control you need to do one hour of moderate exericse (like walking briskly) a day. The "old" recommendations are good for fitness but not enough for weight loss. Few people have time for this.

I am not fat but find it hard to keep my portion sizes and weight in check. I have found that the only thing that helps me lose weight is running (it just burns off more than other forms of exercise and faster - that's why its hard!)

Is this an option for you to try?

Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:36

Less veg than usual this week. Usually have veg or salad with dinner.

Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:37

AWomanCalledHorse · 27/06/2012 17:37

You need to eat less food, more often...and have breakfast!!

You say you go to the gym 2/3 times a week? What are you doing at the gym?

sesameflower · 27/06/2012 17:38

I am going through same misery.
I eat small yoghurt banana turkey cous cous blueberries salmon all in BABY bowls one at a time 3-5 times a day.
I swim and do aerobics every other day.
I am still fat.
It goes up a pound occassionally.
I am still fat.
The world is cruel. People are judgemental. It makes me sad.
I try harder. I am still fat.

Gumby · 27/06/2012 17:38

Can you put it in stones & pounds Blush

Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:39

Breakfast makes me nauseous. Will try.

Gym is curves -circuit for fat old women. Dancing is belly dancing.

lambinapram · 27/06/2012 17:40

Have you tried lowering your carb in take? It worked for me. I weigh less now than I did 20 years ago (at 17) and do no exercise. Some people just don't handle carbs well, maybe you are one of them.
The best low carb book is Living Low Carb: Controlled-Carbohydrate Eating for Long-Term Weight Loss by Jonny Bowden.

Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:40

16 whole fat bastard stones and about 4 sodding lardy pounds.

OP posts:
Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:41

I don't like meat or fish do lowering carbs is difficult.

Wolfiefan · 27/06/2012 17:41

Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:42

WifiNappies · 27/06/2012 17:43

What do you drink in the day? Is it like tea with 8 sugars or just water. That will make a massive difference.

I drink loads of tea with 1 and a lot sugars and if I could cut it down I'd be golden

Silbury · 27/06/2012 17:43

Black coffee mostly. No sugar
