To be a little bit...doubtful about the way wine and alcohol are worshipped on MN?

I probably am going to get slated here...I drink now and then...maybe a bottle of wine a month with DH...there are SO many threads where people say

Wine helps!

and "Is it wine o clock?"

and it seems like a real enabling kind of culture here...."Oh 4.30's not too early for wine!"

and that kind of thing.

AIBU to think that it's an unhelathy atitude?

Unhealthy! Not unhelathy!

I don't get it either. Why wine when there vodka!

ripsishere · 24/06/2012 15:31

Yes, you are.
You sound judgey and intolerant and, a bottle a month. I can easily drink a bottle a night.

Each to their own I think. I've been a student for the past four years so used to drink a lot. Recently I've not really had much/anything to drink as I only drink socially or when having a nice meal with my boyfriend.

If I was busy working all the time I'd no doubt appreciate a glass of white wine in the evenings. I don't think it promotes an unhealthy attitude - it's the people who promote getting bladdered all weekend that promote an unhealthy attitude.

PropertyNightmare · 24/06/2012 15:32

Yabu. Plenty of people really enjoy having a drink. Wine o clock is both an institution and a Godsend.

AgentZigzag · 24/06/2012 15:33

Nothing wrong with being 'unhealthy' sometimes.

You're reading too much into what are just passing friendly comments between strangers.

OddBoots · 24/06/2012 15:35

Maybe I am wrong but I've never taken that seriously, 'wine o'clock' seems to be just a phrase people use, it doesn't man that are actually drinking.

TheSpokenNerd · 24/06/2012 15:35

BUt why are so many people on here drinking nightly? That's just not healthy...it's not...if someone on here says they smoke a pack a week then they get hoisted up and told off!

OP posts:
TheSpokenNerd · 24/06/2012 15:36

I think it does OddBoots there's even a drunk thread on Fridays...loads of people on here drink nightly though. I have been on MN for two years under various names so I guess I have a feel for it now.

OP posts:
SPsFanjoLovesBrokenBiscuits · 24/06/2012 15:37

I smoke and drink most nights. No problem for me and I don't think anyone else cares tbh. People can do as they please

ChaosTrulyReigns · 24/06/2012 15:37

Do you think it might just be some sort of conduit to bonding and shouldn't be taken quire as literally as you are taking it?

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/06/2012 15:39

See, it's virtual wine. I take part in all this and love it, and I'm teetotal. I often pretend to drink Wine, and the best bit is I don't get a hangover. So women drink, get over it.

Icelollycraving · 24/06/2012 15:40

Yabu. Wine is drunk in the house of God & in mine too.

Vinomcstephens · 24/06/2012 15:41

Whether half the mmsnetters are drunken lushes or have signed the pledge, whether we sink a bottle a wine staring at midday each day or only have a glass of sherry on Christmas day, it is precisely, exactly, 100% none of your business thespokennerd there, feel better for having got that off my chest, off to have a tequila slammer to celebrate Smile

TheSpokenNerd · 24/06/2012 15:41

IS it really virtual? Am I thick? I was there thinking you were all a lot of piss heads!

I like wine...and gin...but I assumed the whole Wine thing was real...

MrsRhettButler · 24/06/2012 15:41

Oi! You leave the drunk thread alone mrs!

AllYoursBabooshka · 24/06/2012 15:42

I agree with you.

But then again I have a horrible hangover and am never drinking again.

Well, Not tonight anyway. :o

Vinomcstephens · 24/06/2012 15:42

Sorry, hurrying too much to get to my alcoholic beverage so say yes, you are beinbg very unreasonable!

MrsRhettButler · 24/06/2012 15:42

Its real for me Blush

OddBoots · 24/06/2012 15:42

I do think generally that the majority of people posting on here are adults and are responsible for their own behaviour so unless it's clear they are harming others, have lost all control or they ask for advice it's their own business.

I don't really drink (I can take your bottle a month and raise you a bottle a year) but I eat far too much chocolate and cheese (not together) which is just as harmful.

TodaysAGoodDay · 24/06/2012 15:42

I'd run for cover if I was you, Nerd...

I often ask if it is wine o'clock after a particularly shitty day.

I rarely actually drink it though.

TapirBackRider · 24/06/2012 15:43

Why are you so concerned with what anonymous posters say on a internet message board?

FeakAndWeeble · 24/06/2012 15:44

BUt why are so many people on here drinking nightly? That's just not healthy...it's not...if someone on here says they smoke a pack a week then they get hoisted up and told off!

Personally I couldn't give a shiney shit what anyone on here or elsewhere thinks about my smoking or drinking habits. If someone on MN attempted to 'tell me off' about anything I'd probably laugh. I stopped being 'told off' when I left home 11 years ago.

Have some Wine and relax OP.
