To be a little bit...doubtful about the way wine and alcohol are worshipped on MN?

I probably am going to get slated here...I drink now and then...maybe a bottle of wine a month with DH...there are SO many threads where people say

Wine helps!

and "Is it wine o clock?"

and it seems like a real enabling kind of culture here...."Oh 4.30's not too early for wine!"

and that kind of thing.

AIBU to think that it's an unhelathy atitude?

argh no i have just read the but you are in charge of children line what if their head falls off when you have been drinking Hmm

LineRunner · 24/06/2012 17:10

No more cakes and ale!

piprabbit · 24/06/2012 17:10

In RL I don't drink very often.
On MN I am very partial to a large glass of red at the end of a stressful day.
Just because I say something on MN doesn't always mean it is a 100% accurate reflection of my actual behaviour.

I Grin a lot more on MN too!

Mrsjay · 24/06/2012 17:12

yes i Grin alot too doesnt make be a grining loon in real life honest Grin

soozeedol · 24/06/2012 17:17

my mum is 75yrs old and wouldn't miss her happy hour which can start as early as 4pm...whisky and ginger, 2/3 a night and I barely have any in a week but know my Sis's all have wine of an evening and alot of ppl do

I'm a vodka drinker when I do partake
rest of the time I like my coffee, crisps and choc...all bad for me too

Tee2072 · 24/06/2012 17:19

Yes. Every time someone posts Wine everyone drinks.

Just like every time a Maccy's advert comes on site, we all run out for a Happy Meal.

Hmm
Mrsjay · 24/06/2012 17:21

oh i could honestly go a Wine now maybe thats the enabiling behaviour the op was talking about Grin

TapirBackRider · 24/06/2012 17:22

Exactly

I mean, if we were to follow this logically, all Wine would be replaced by Brew because Wine may encourage otherwise sensible adults to rush out and drink - along with bun fights, which may tempt those who are on a diet.

All parents would be banned from doing anything risky at all - just in case.

alistron1 · 24/06/2012 17:23

I opened the wine before looking on mumsnet. Its now subliminal enabling, not virtual.

Is it enabling or conditioning though??!

I don't think that's what the OP was on about really.

TapirBackRider · 24/06/2012 17:29

Then I'd love to know exactly what the OP meant - because from what I've read in the OP is the assumption that every time we post Wine means that we are actually drinking Wine IRL - and that posting Wine is enabling others drinking.

izzyizin · 24/06/2012 17:30

A bottle of wine lasts you and your dh a month, Nerd? Hmm

Doesn't it taste like vinegar by the time you get to the last thimbleful? [

Mrsjay · 24/06/2012 17:31

when i see somebody say bun fight it make me Grin I always have images of women chucking buns at their screens

Tee2072 · 24/06/2012 17:33

Wine Wine Wine

There. I've enabled everyone 3 times.

Hmm
yellowraincoat · 24/06/2012 17:34

Tapir, I drink, yes, I drink, sometimes a lot, sometimes a little. But I find this attitude that drinking is something hilarious a bit odd. Can't really explain properly, but I just know that it's not something I've seen in other countries.

I remember trying to explain "a cheeky pint" to a Spanish friend and he couldn't understand why we can't just drink if we want to without making it into some sort of joke, like we're doing something naughty. I just think it's a bit unhealthy.

Not judging at all, I just get what the OP means.
