To be TERRIFIED of having a bikini wax?

I thought I'd be braver now I've been through childbirth, but am still too wimpy to have a bikini wax and have just cancelled an appointment to have one on Monday. How pathetic am I being? Are they as bad as I think?

Not talking pornstar type wax, just a tidy up.

Well don't then. Use cream at home.

crashdoll · 12/04/2012 17:47

It's not that bad. Pop a couple of paracetamol and off you go. Or use cream but it smells bad!

NettoSuperstar · 12/04/2012 17:47

Epilator.

theressomethingaboutmarie · 12/04/2012 17:48

Well,if you have a good beauty therapist, they are unpleasant but not painful.

thestringcheesemassacre · 12/04/2012 17:48

Fish, if you can handle having a baby, a quick wax is a WALK in the park.
Get on and do it.

seeker · 12/04/2012 17:48

Then don't have one. They aren't compulsory!

hockeyforjockeys · 12/04/2012 17:48

It's not pleasant, but survivable. One tip is to find somewhere that uses hot wax rather than strip wax (ie where they use cloth strips to remove the wax).

When I first had a hot wax I couldn't believe the reduction in pain, its a very short sharp pain that almost instantly disappears.

Tee2072 · 12/04/2012 17:49

Then don't have one.

Stay natural or shave or do cream at home.

It's not a requirement of life or anything.

ABigGirlDoneItAndRanAway · 12/04/2012 17:49

I don't think it's that bad, I actually find the legwax more painful than the bikini line, but just use the ladyshave to tidy round the edges if you are scared, that's what I do when I'm skint and can't afford a wax.

Cream brings me out in hideous rash and then have stubble two days later. Ditto shaving. Want to start taking dd to tots swimming and would be unkind to fellow swimmers if I didn't tackle it!

Will have to ask about hot wax, thanks for the tip hockey.

I also find a leg wax much worse.
It's not pleasant but over before you know it

Francagoestohollywood · 12/04/2012 17:57

They aren't compulsory! But they aren't that bad, either.

CupOfBrownJoy · 12/04/2012 18:00

Trim, trim, trim

Before you go get the nail scissors out and trim it all off to 7-8mm.

Pop a couple of paracetamol if you're really worried (although I have never needed them) and go for it.

If all you're having a is a tidy up it won't really hurt and will be over with in 5 mins.

although if you get a Hollywood you'll find childbirth a walk in the park compared to getting that middle bit and the front removed

toddlerama · 12/04/2012 18:05

Have a large glass of wine before hand.

Bambino81 · 12/04/2012 18:08

I can't get it done. I wax at home now. I did use cream once, and honestly it was fucking terrible, my skin was so raw it bled a little - that was right before a weekend in a posh hotel with my bf >.

WilsonFrickett · 12/04/2012 18:11

7 - 8mm - how specific is that Cup? Grin

Drugs and hot wax. Or don't. You won't go to jail or anything.

It ok, waxing is fast and it won't need doing for weeks.

ToxicToria · 12/04/2012 18:18

Honestly it's not that bad and if it's just a quick tidy up it will be over in minutes. Once you have been once you wont know what all the worrying was about Smile

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/04/2012 18:22

Cream does jack for me.
I wax my pits, epilate my legs.

Don't fancy the thought of and epilator near the bikini line Shock but with wax:
hot wax,(these pesky cold strips are no good for me)
exfoliate, dry, powder.
Smallish strips, wax off, rub the strip until the colour shows through.
Whisk off against the hair growth.

Have young daughter in next room to prevent swearing "Of course it doesn't hurt DD, I'll teach you to wax when you're older"

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 12/04/2012 18:26

Epilator on the bikini area?

elizaregina · 12/04/2012 18:28

dont know if anyone mentioned this but ask if they can spray to numb area....i have been going for years, screaming wih pain and a new girl said " oh, if your so sensitve why dont i just spray you to numb it a bit"!! did help - and yes trim.

CoteDAzur · 12/04/2012 18:32

YABU. No need for numbing spray. After the second strip, it all goes numb anyway. HTH Grin

CoteDAzur · 12/04/2012 18:34

How exactly is spray supposed to reach & numb the skin when there is pubic hair covering it? (Hence the reason why you go for a wax)
