To be TERRIFIED of having a bikini wax?

I thought I'd be braver now I've been through childbirth, but am still too wimpy to have a bikini wax and have just cancelled an appointment to have one on Monday. How pathetic am I being? Are they as bad as I think?

Not talking pornstar type wax, just a tidy up.

no, that seems perfectly fair. why have people messing with your bits? yuck.

GilbertandGeorge · 14/04/2012 22:07

I had no idea that I had any hair around my bum hole until my first brazilian.

2rebecca · 14/04/2012 22:08

I had one once, never again. It hurt, dep creams don't.

NimpyWindowmash · 14/04/2012 22:14

It hurts like nothing on earth. Definitely don't do it.

JingleMum · 14/04/2012 22:24

thanks Le Queen i must get a hollywood then? everything goes including bum hair Blush but i always ask them to leave a little strip.

PuffPants maybe they don't do the bum hair in a brazillian?? i'm not sure? although i always ask for a brazillian wax at the salon and they remove everything bar a little strip, maybe all salons are different?

it does hurt, i'll be trying that emla cream next time, but child birth is a billion times worse! i'd also say it hurts far more to get a coil fitted than to get a wax.

dementedma · 14/04/2012 22:49

can I ask, what is the point of leaving the little strip? It must look completley weird! If you are getting the rest waxed off, why leave a little line?

JingleMum · 14/04/2012 22:59

dementedma they always say at the end, "shall i leave a this little strip?" i always say yes because i can't take anymore pain Blush that's my reason!! still, it can't hurt that much or i wouldn't get it done every month.

GilbertandGeorge · 14/04/2012 23:30

Even though I have the little line, I have no idea why. It looks a bit daft. I may get it taken off next time.

seeker · 15/04/2012 00:23

You do realise that you don't have to fo this? Adult women have hair. That's one of the ways you know you're an adult.

GilbertandGeorge · 15/04/2012 00:36

I think there's been a change in personal grooming standards in the last few years.

A full bush is no longer the norm if my gym changing rooms are anything to go by - it's nearly all brazilians.

My therapist does loads of blokes back and chest waxes. That would have been unheard of when my dad was young.

Women used to have hairy legs and armpits many years ago - fashions change.

seeker · 15/04/2012 07:24

All than means is that a pornographic sensibility is becoming mainstream.

Think about it. In what possible way is having the hair round your anus removed to do with personal rooming?

seeker · 15/04/2012 07:25

Grooming, not rooming obviously!

DinahMoHum · 15/04/2012 07:38

you dont have to have it waxed. Why on earth would you do something that terrified?

Just shave it if you dont like the hair there

NotMostPeople · 15/04/2012 08:11

I presume you need to trim before going if you've be au naturelle until now? How short do the hairs need to be?

dementedma · 15/04/2012 10:05

Grin at rooming!

DinahMoHum · 15/04/2012 10:08

rooming? like a cross between grooming and rimming

MistyMountainHop · 15/04/2012 10:20

And I really don't get the fresher and more hygienic thing. Would shaving your head make you feel fresher and more hygienic? Heads sweat a lot, you know. And you wouldn't get head lice!

LydiaWickham · 15/04/2012 16:46

It's not just the porn thing though, there's been a change in the wax, hot wax is relatively a new product in the UK (last 10 years), anyone who's had a brazillian with warm wax will tell you it's unspeakably painful and stays painful for a while, whereas hot wax makes it possible to have brazillian waxing (or other areas) and it not be too painful. It makes waxing a more disirable option for a lot of areas.

seeker · 15/04/2012 16:49

But why would any adult woman want to look like a child or a porn star?

CoteDAzur · 15/04/2012 16:53

seeker - It is not about the look but the experience, if you see what I mean.

CoteDAzur · 15/04/2012 16:55

Dinah - I wax rather than shave because the itching after a shave drives me crazy. Also, waxed area stays smooth for ages whereas you have maybe a day or two after the shave.

GilbertandGeorge · 15/04/2012 16:55

The feeling after a wax is just lovely. It all feels so smooth, clean and soft.

It would be hard to go back to hairiness.

I have only seen one porno film, when I was a teenager, and the women had very major pubes in that. So bald=porn star has passed me by!

And believe me, despite my lack of pubes - I don't look like a child!
