To be TERRIFIED of having a bikini wax?

I thought I'd be braver now I've been through childbirth, but am still too wimpy to have a bikini wax and have just cancelled an appointment to have one on Monday. How pathetic am I being? Are they as bad as I think?

Not talking pornstar type wax, just a tidy up.

The only other tip I've heard is not to wax during a period, as it can make you have a greater tendancy to bleed afterwards.

Angelico · 12/04/2012 23:31

Baldrick that is a rip off! Shock It's 2 quid here online! Do you know anyone in UK who could post you some?!

noblegiraffe · 13/04/2012 00:07

You're going swimming, not naked, and to a toddler session at that. Why can't you just trim it? If you're scared of the totally unnecessary pain, then don't do it.

JingleMum · 13/04/2012 00:18

This thread has made me laugh my head off!

Sleeplessinderbyshire - you're brave! They bloody hurt!

I have a brazillian once a month, it hurts, but after a few months of getting them you get used to it, plus it's actually over really quickly. It's embarassing more than anything though (spreading your arse cheeks apart while she waxes your bum - kill me now!) it's worth it though.

A brazillian is bearable so just a standard wax should be a walk in the park - go for it!

GilbertandGeorge · 13/04/2012 00:23

My beautician told me she gets really irritated by women who make a fuss about waxing!

thecook · 13/04/2012 00:47

I have never waxed. Been shaving down there since 93. Never had a problem with ingrown hairs. Bit itchy at first though! And I shave the lot off!

LilBlondePessimist · 13/04/2012 01:30

This thread is making me laugh loudly! I wouldn't advocate epilating your bikini, as not only does it hurt like a bitch but when I tried it it bled - same with underarms, although legs are fine. I agree with the advice to trim with scissors to less than 1cm, pop a couple of painkillers 20 min before then go for it. After the first couple of strips you'll hardly feel it. And then get it done 5-6 weekly. I have a Hollywood Blush every six weeks - especially when due to give birth to keep nice n clean iykwim, and it's just the norm to me now! Hth :)

Go for it. The feeling after is amazing, but slightly addictive. What did people do 50 years ago? Was everyone so hairy? It's kind of a shame that we modern chicks feel obliged to have so much maintenance, not to mention the cost..we really have a shit deal having to pay for make up, manicures, underwear etc. But I highly a recommend a wax... Make sure it's hot wax. Pain is minimal...and just feels so soft and lovely after...and your partner will love it...I live in a country where it's bloody expensive so use epilator...also ok..also where I live most women and men shave everything... I'm even considering getting my monkey arms done now... Uff.

WilsonFrickett · 13/04/2012 09:10

Oh OK Gilbert, now you've told me that I'll stop making a fuss about waxing, shall I? Hmm

YusMilady · 13/04/2012 11:07

What do you mean '50 years ago' blenda? The waxing fad is way more recent than that!

seeker · 13/04/2012 12:01

Or you could just not buy into the increasing pornification of society and leave a part of your body that's supposed to be hairy the way it's supposed to be?

NotMostPeople · 13/04/2012 12:10

I'm scared, but I can get over that I'm more worried about the embarrassment factor. I've still got piles from my last pg - all of nine years ago and I'm just not comfortable about anyone being so close to such a private area. I'm not a prude and I've done childbirth three times but isn't it really really cringey?

Sooner or later on a waxing thread, porn will be mentioned.

Re embarassment - my therapist doesn't bat an eyelid. She works at the gym spa so she does dozens of brazilians per week (v popular with the gym crowd). Her matter of fact-ness has made me the same, although the first time I was Blush at the extreme intimacy.

limitedperiodonly · 13/04/2012 12:32

Is it tripping you up? Making it hard to get trousers on?

seeker · 13/04/2012 12:34

Keeping your bikini line tidy is fine.

Having it all off isn't.

seeker · 13/04/2012 12:36

Myblast post was post number 69! Grin

seeker · 13/04/2012 12:37

My last, that should read!

squoosh · 13/04/2012 12:40

If you are really scared of pain and don't like shaving or veet (hate that stuff) you can get really good bikini line trimmers. I think mine is by babyliss, no pain, all tidy. I call it my minge mower - elegant.

It's not like I'm also walking round wearing nipple clamps and asking random men to ejaculate on my face...

I epilate my bikini line, its ok! This emla cream is popping up as prescription only tho?
