I'm with Porto and have no intention of ever visiting a country where women are treated as second class citizens and it is acceptable to treat employees as slave labour. That goes for lots of other countries btw.

And as notveryinventive says I'd probably find myself chucked in jail for holding DP's hand or something. We've been together 26 years, have a grown up DS but aren't married. And I'm fucked if I'm paying out for two separate rooms just to visit some hot, dusty shopping mall.

Isnt Dubai meant to be going bankrupt or something? Im sure the UAE were having some problems and their buildings were devaluing or did I just dream that?

If you read the threads you'll realise that a lot of Dubai inhabitants feel exactly the same way as many people on this thread but have to be there because that's where the work is.

They may have been offered work there but it isn't the only place on the planet that has work. It is probably the place paying the best money, because the native employees are treated so badly and paid so little.
You are out there for your own benefit.

And even if you went under duress, no one has forced you to partake in the slavery and "employ" maids and man fridays and gardeners etc.

This is fascinating... and hilarious. Like GiserableMitt says, some of us are members of both forums. Dubai has its issues but some of us are living very ordinary lives here. I do my own housework, eat bacon sandwiches, drink plenty of reasonably priced plonk, raise my own kids...

I wasn't forced to come here - we chose to come and live here for the standard of living, experience of living overseas, the beautiful weather, good schools and a safe place to raise kids.

Beware of stereotypes ladies!

Some of those women sound like Hyacinth Bucket, I am totally put off that place now having read through the threads, kids falling off balconies every other week, the desalinated water makes your hair fall out, every other thread is for botox (probably because they?ve all turned into prunes from all that sun) bugs and dead animals in the drinking water eewww, and by all accounts the schools sound horrendous.
Give these women a bigger house and a slave and they think they?ve made it in life!!!

The maids forum is fabulous1 I am Shock at some of the stories. if only I had such issues...
